  • The Guru

The Guru was a perfect, entertaining, and complex episode full of both character and plot development. I really enjoyed watching this episode because it was full of action, drama, and intrigue. Aang and the gang split up to take care of various missions and, while Azula begins to lay her traps to take control of Ba Sing Se. I thought it was funny how Mai had to clean up after Bosco. Elsewhere in Ba Sing Se, Iroh opens his own Tea Shop with an awesome name, and it is quite a beautiful shop to be proud of. Zuko has recovered from his illness and now seems to be wiser and more relaxed, different. Iroh gets a Royal Invitation. I thought Aang's journey was awesome and very engaging. I also thought Sokka's meeting with his fater was a good story. Katara gets into some trouble and Aang makes a quick decision he may regret. I look forward to the last episode, the season 2 finale next!!!!!!!
  • The start of an epic.

The first half of the hour long season finale. This is the stuff that makes women faint at romantic comedies; the decision to choose love above all else. The Avatar state training was interesting, and then at that point it just got even more interesting. Will Aang really not be able to have free will of the Avatar state? Knowing cartoons though, I bet there's an alternative. What's pretty neat is that Aang isn't the only one who is receiving power ups; Toff herself has grown stronger. Plus all the pieces have been set for a grand finale; the conspiracy going on between Azula and Long Feng, and Zuko and Iroh's secret being let out. Seeing Zuko's transformation almost made him seem really unfortunate; he looks like he's enjoying a new life, but will be pulled back into his old one by force.

A lot of things happened in this episode! It seems like every story is finally being pieced together and discovered. Aang goes away for a bit to visit a Guru named Guru Pathik to help him unlock the Avatar State to use whenever he needed it. Sokka meets up with his father for the first time in years. Katara meets with war officials to discuss strategies and techniques to use agaisnt the Fire Nation. When she leaves, she spots Zuko and Iroh in the tea shop. She runs back inside and warns the Kyoshi Warriors. She discovers Azula, and is taken captive. From far away, Aang senses her danger and returns to Bah Sing Seh. When Sokka sees him return, he realizes there is trouble. Azula is captured, but strikes a deal with the Dai Li.

Another great addition to Avatar, even it had hardly any action, it was still a great episode. The chakras that Guru Pathik was talking about was very interesting, some people say it was boring, but I think it was very interesting. Aang's greatest fear is fighting Fire Lord Ozai, I can't blame him, Ozai is a monster. When Ty Lee took down Katara, I thought Katara was dead, thankfully she wasn't. I really wanted to see Hakoda's men fighting the Fire Nation to see how good they are. This is a very special episode and this episode will receive a 9.5.

  • a great episode

This was a wonderful episode, where the characters really were conflicted, and found out that their paths in life were not as set in stone as they thought...

The conclusion to this epic season, The Guru was filled with danger, excitement, peril, action, betrayal...

    Characters: 10/10

I felt that the characters and their loves, intentions, and relationships were clearer here than in any episode. New alliances were formed, like Aang and Iroh, which I felt very compelling, and think it was a wise choice to go that way in the show. Zucco faced a hard decision, and although he made the wrong one because of Azula--whom I hate more than ever now--you got to see a real glimpse of him during his talk with Katara, which moved me greatly. The guru was a wonderful character; I feel he added a lot to the show. His wisdom was profound, and he was true to the Avatar "spirit" of things.

    Plot: 10/10

The plot was thrilling; it kept me at the edge of my seat in anticipation. I was instantly embraced by the powerful words and ancient teachings of the guru, the unseen--yet powerful--connection between Katara and Zucco, the new alliances that were formed, the betrayals that were committed, and the pain of choosing between right and wrong. I found that the scene between Zucco and Katara in the mine was most touching. At first, Katara seemed bent on bringing Zucco down, berating him for doing only what he thought best--trying to restore his honor and throne, and become someone special in his father's eyes again. I believe that she finally realized, however, that what he wanted was something that people yearn for as much as air: feeling affection from a parent should be something every person experiences.

It melted my heart when she offered to use the rest of her healing water to cure his scar--and I believe that it confirmed the romantic bond between the two that the fans have been anticipating the entire time.

The worst part of the episode was when Azula convinced Zucco to join her. He not only betrayed his uncle--who, in my opinion, is one of the best characters in the series--but the right choice, and suddenly, everything he had decided in "Crossroads of Destiny" had vanished.

    Ending: 10/10

Although I was very distressed at the cliffhanger ending, I was also very impressed. Having Aang shot down by lightening and Appa carrying them away into the forsaken night was a very dramatic and traumatizing way to end a season. The worst part of the ending was, in my opinion, Zucco's betrayal, and the fact that he helped in what we all hope doesn't prove to be Aang's fatal demise. It was thrilling, and although it will be a hard, long wait for all Avatar fanatics, it was an ending that will not easily be forgotten. It was monumental, maybe even bigger than the show itself.

    Overall Rating: 10/10

This was an amazing episode, filled with unexpected twists, heart-wrenching betrayals, compassion being found in the most unexpected places, a painful ending, and, best of all, it leaves the viewer with a very gratified feeling as they switch off the television.

This was, in my opinion, one of the best contributions by the Nick animators. Amazing! And a total tearjerker!

Wonderful conclusion to a wonderful season of a wonderuful show!
  • I am so diapointed.......

The only reason I give this episode as high as I did is the great scene with Toph bending the metal. Wow! Otherwize I would have given it a one. I thught the reunion with Sokka and his father would be much more emotional. They barely spent any time on this subject. Sokka had tons to say to his father, why didn't we get to see any of that?

The stuff with the Guru was way boring, and went way to fast. It reminded me of Yoda and Luke Skywalker. Yoda tells Luke not to leave without finishing his traning, but he does and it ends badly. Same thing with Aang. Why would the Dai Li betray there own country and willingly turn it over to the fire benders? They cramed way too much into this episode. They could of made another two episodes out of this stuff and it would have been a lot better. It may have something to do with the death of Mako. They may of had more episodes but had to rewrite the stuff. I don't think we are going to see Iroh in the next season.

First I'd like to say what was the point of this episode. Sure it was important to the plot, but it could have been summed up a lot faster than going through that annoying process of skipping all the easy to unlock chakras and get to the last important one, which was letting go of Katara. The whole episode was predictable from Zuko being a nice guy, Azula taking over the city, to Aang going through all those steps to unlock the chakras. The only thing that had me and was a nice addition to Toph's character was the fact that she could bend metal. That punching scene kinda reminded me of Kill Bill, but anyway the rest was just too long and a waste of animation. By the way the animation was pretty crappy in this episode, though luckily that was only in the first part of the season finale. I know Avatr is just a kids show but the quality could have been better especially for the season finale!
  • Absolutly perfect!!

It is the morning, and Iroh is at work preparing some jook. Zuko walks into the room, yawns, and comments on the smell of the jook. Iroh says that he will not like it, but Zuko contradicts him, smelling it and saying that he would love to taste it. Iroh is somewhat surprised, and makes mention of the fact that Zuko has changed greatly since he recovered from the fever he had in "The Earth King". Zuko just smiles, and becomes very optimistic: It is a new day - in fact the day of the grand opening of Iroh's new tea shop, and they have a wonderful new apartment. At the same time, Aang and Sokka land at the mouth of Chameleon Bay, where they were told that Sokka's father Hakoda and the rest of the Southern Water Tribe Warriors are. Sokka is very nervous, but Aang tries to calm him down, and succeeds somewhat. Sokka questions Aang on his feelings towards him meeting Guru Pathik to master the Avatar State. Aang smiles, and replies that he, unlike Sokka, is not nervous in the least. He then takes off on Appa, shouting back to Sokka that they will reunite in a week. Sokka walks into the base, and is greeted with warm and welcome arms by the warriors of the Southern Water Tribe. After a very brief exchange of greetings, the warriors point him off to a tent. Sokka enters the tent, where several more warriors, including Bato and his father Hakoda, are studying a map. Hakoda looks up from the map, and he and Sokka embrace happily. Back in Ba Sing Se, the Earth King is entertaining Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee, still disguised as Kyoshi Warriors. He tells them of Long Feng's manipulation of the city. Azula expresses false interest, and the Earth King continues by telling Azula of the plans for the invasion of the Fire Nation during the Day of Black Sun. Azula is surprised, but manages to suppress her shock to the point of merely expressing interest in the plan. At that exact moment, the Council of Five is going over the invasion plan with Katara, who is accompanied by Momo. General How says that General Fong's base will be the staging point of the attack, and they will send in troops, demonstrating the motion by Earthbending several stone pieces representing Earth Kingdom forces across a world map. Momo suddenly darts across the board, and knocks the pillars over. Katara laughs at the lemur's actions, and attempts to joke with the five generals, who are not amused. General How asks Katara to take a scroll detailing the invasion plans so that it may receive Seal of the Earth King, which will finalize the plan. Aang arrives at the Eastern Air Temple, and finds Guru Pathik meditating atop the same pillar he was on before Appa's departure. Guru Pathik introduces himself as a spiritual brother to the Air Nomads, and a good close friend of Monk Gyatso. Aang ask Pathik how he plans on teaching him how to gain control of the Avatar State, to which Guru replies that he must first bring balance to himself before he can bring balance to the world. The Guru first asks Aang to simply drink a liquid, which Aang does before spitting it out, as it is a strange combination of onion and banana juice. Out on a road, an ostrich-horse is pulling a cart carrying Master Yu and Xin Fu as well as Toph, who is trapped within a huge metal box. The two up front are arguing about which way to go in order to back to the Bei Fong estate, Toph's home, when Toph yells at the two to stop arguing and let her out to go to the bathroom. Master Yu starts to get up to let her out, but Xin Fu sharply pulls him back from the action, noticing the obvious trick where his companion does not. Toph pounds against the cage she is in, only infuriating Xin Fu more, who tells her that no matter how good an Earthbender she thinks she may be, there is no way that she can Bend the metal. Back in Ba Sing Se, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee are removing their disguises, when Azula presents the girls an idea. She states that they now have the perfect opportunity to bring down the Earth Kingdom from the inside and succeed where the Fire Nation has failed for a century. She proposes they stage a coup to overthrow the Earth King. Azula determines that the determining factor in accomplishing this goal lies in the control of the Dai Li. Back at the Eastern Air Temple, Guru Pathik is beginning Aang's instruction of the chakras. In order to master the Avatar State, Pathik says that he must first open the seven chakras of the body. After determining that Aang has absolutely no knowledge of the nature of chakras, Pathik procides a visual representation. Using a pond clogged with algae he successfully explains to Aang the concept of chakras, stating that by removing the clogs between pools, the water is allowed to flow, just as energy is allowed to flow through the body when the seven chakras are open. There are seven chakras within the body, each with a purpose and each with a different blockage: An intense sensation results from the opening of them all. Pathik warns that the process of opening the chakras cannot be halted once it has begun- it must be completed in order to succeed. Aang accepts this risks and they begin the process. Back in Chameleon Bay, Sokka, his father Hakoda, and the rest of the Warriors are preparing what Hakoda calls Tangle Mines. Comprised of a buoyant casing around an explosive mine, they are filled with Skunkfish and Seaweed. Upon detonation, the seaweed entangles itself in propellors of Fire Nation ships, immobilizing them. Afterwards, the stench of the Skunkfish forces the soldiers onboard to abandon ship. Hakoda jokes that he has dubbed the plan, "The Stink and Sink," to which Sokka explodes with laughter. Bato remarks dryly on how similar the father and son are. A scouting party returns, informing the warriors of the presence of four Fire Nation ships. Hakoda quickly acts, telling Bato to finish preparing the mines, and the rest of the warriors to prepare for battle. Sokka hesitates as the other warriors prepare for battle, and then asks Hakoda what he should do. In a slightly irritated, yet joking tone, Hakoda repeats pointedly that he wanted, "the rest of [the] men to get ready for battle." Sokka smiles at his father's confirmation of his coming-of-age, and quickly prepares himself for the encounter ahead. In Ba Sing Se, the Jasmine Dragon is finally opening, and Iroh and Zuko stand proudly as customers arrive at the tea shop. Iroh says that he is in disbelief that has accomplished his dream of running his own tea shop. He advises Zuko to follow his own dreams as well, and Zuko congratulates him. Iroh expresses pride in his nephew, for having chosen to be with him in this happy time. Zuko enthusiastically hugs his uncle, then runs off to start preparing tea, Iroh soon happily joining him. Meanwhile, Mai and Ty Lee, in Kyoshi warrior garb, lounge on the front steps of the Earth King's palace. Mai complains about her outfit, and about the tasks involved in being the Earth King's audience (primarily cleaning up after the King's pet bear). Ty Lee advises Mai to be patient, and repeats aloud the plan Azula has formed. Mai quickly snaps at her to be quiet, as she will reveal that they are from the Fire Nation if she continues. A small group of Dai Li, who have been spying from their hiding spots clinging to several pillars, quickly and stealthily crawl off. Once they are gone, Azula emerges and compliments her friends on their acting job, as Long Feng will surely be informed of their plans now. Katara and Momo, just before going to see the Earth King, decide to stop at a new tea house. As she enters, Katara hears and sees Zuko reciting an order for tea to Iroh in the back of the shop, and she gasps in surprise before running off to warn the Earth King. Aang and Pathik arrive at the seventh and final Chakra. Pathik congratulates Aang and states that with the final Chakra's opening, he will be able to willfully enter and exit the Avatar State, as well as control his actions within it. The Thought Chakra, located at the crown of the head, deals with Cosmic Energy, and is blocked by Earthly Attachment. Aang is asked to meditate on what he is attached to, and images of Katara flood his mind. Now that Aang has focused on that which he is attached to, Pathik instructs Aang to let the attachments go. Aang suddenly becomes angry, finding the idea of letting go of Katara ludicrous, as he loves her. He also questions why he should not allow himself to feel this love, when Pathik stated previously that it was beneficial to him. Pathik narrows his eyes, but remains calm, and states that if Aang ever wants the pure Cosmic Energy to enter him, he must let go of all earthly attachments, including Katara. Katara rushes into the palace, and tells Azula, whom she believes is Suki, that Prince Zuko and Iroh have infiltrated the city. She tells how they need to inform the Earth King. As Azula calmly replies that that will not be necessary, Katara realizes her mistake- she recognizes the distinct golden hue of Azula's eyes. However, Katara's realization is too late- Ty Lee hurtles into the air and disables Katara. Azula and her friends stand over Katara's prone form, and she remarks that it is time she and Zuko encountered each other again. The argument continues back at the Eastern Air Temple, with Pathik telling Aang he must open all of the chakras to master the Avatar State. Aang decides to at the least try to do so, and he begins to let go. He visualizes an image of Katara disappearing into space, and himself being taken high above the planet to walk along a purple stream of cosmic energy. The stream is radiating from a gigantic image of himself in the Avatar State, which surrounds him in a sphere of energy radiating from its palms. However, Aang is suddenly shocked when an image of Katara, captured underground, appears behind him. He abandons the Avatar State, and begins running towards the image. The stream of cosmic energy dissipates, and Aang plummets to the Earth. Jolting awake from his meditation, Aang desperately says that Katara is in trouble, and he must go back to Ba Sing Se to help her. Pathik stops him, telling him that by choosing Attachment, the last chakra has become blocked- if he leaves now, he will not be able to go into the Avatar State at all. Aang hesitates, but then continues on without looking back or responding. Master Yu and Xin Fu are startled by a tearing sound from the back of the wagon, and go to investigate. A massive hole has been ripped in the back of Toph's prison, and she is not inside. Toph emerges further back on the road, and uses Earthbending to thrust Xin Fu and Yu back into the coffin. She then grips either side of the hole she made earlier, and pulls them back together, trapping her captors in her place. After taking a few moments to yell out her triumph and state that she is the greatest Earthbender ever, Toph rapidly heads back to Ba Sing Se by surfing along a self-made wave of Earth. This leaves Xin Fu and Yu locked very uncomfortably within the coffin, and Xin Fu frustrated as ever at having to spend time with his companion. Sokka and the rest of Hakoda's warriors are finishing preparing their ships to move on. Sokka tells his father that he is going to make him proud and prove what a great warrior he is. Hakoda smiles, and replies that Sokka does not have to prove himself- he has always known Sokka has been a great warrior. This heart-felt moment is brought up short by the sudden appearance of Aang and Appa. Aang only has to look at Sokka for him to realize that the situation is urgent, and bids farewell to his father. In the prisons of Ba Sing Se, a group of Dai Li agents escort a restrained and complaining Azula to Long Feng's cell. Upon their arrival, she demands to know why she has been taken out of her bed in the middle of the night. Long Feng smiles craftily, and tells her he knows exactly who she truthfully is, that he wants to make a deal, as Azula has the Earth King's trust. In return for her help, Long Feng promises the Avatar, and Azula smirks, before the proposal continues. At the Jasmine Dragon, Iroh and Zuko are surprised when they receive wonderful news - they have been invited to serve tea to the Earth King. Zuko, looking extremely content and happy for his uncle's good fortune, continues working in the shop.
  • Aang starts to learn control of the Avatar State from Guru Pathik at the Eastern Air Temple. Sokka is reunited with his father. Toph learns "metalbending", while Xin Fu and Master Yu are transporting Toph back to her parents.

Pathik warns that the process of opening the chakras cannot be halted once it has begun- it must be completed in order to succeed. Aang accepts this risks and they begin the process.

The first chakra is the Earth Chakra, located at the base of the spine. It deals with Survival, and is blocked by Fear. Aang goes into meditation, and sees himself surrounded by fire, sitting before a man who appears to be the Fire Lord. Although surrounded by his visions, Aang is able to clearly hear Pathik's advice on how to address the emotion. After some reassurance, Aang is able to clear his thoughts, and the images disappear. Aang drops out of his meditative trance and Pathik congratulates him, before they move on.

The second chakra is the Water Chakra, which deals with Pleasure, and is blocked by Guilt. When asked what he blames himself for, Aang replies that he regrets running away from the Southern Air Temple upon receiving the pressure accompanying his position as Avatar. Also, he regrets harming others while in the Avatar State, as at General Fong's base. Pathik replies that Aang must accept what has happened, and not allow them to influence his judgment. In order to benefit the world, Aang must forgive his own actions, which he is able to accomplish.Back in Chameleon Bay, Sokka, his father Hakoda, and the rest of the Warriors are preparing what Hakoda calls Tangle Mines. Aang and Pathik prepare to open the third chakra, the Fire Chakra, which is located in the stomach. Aang somewhat jokingly remarks upon learning this that he is hungry, and Pathik treats it in good humor before quickly moving on. He explains that the Fire Chakra deals with Willpower, while it is blocked by Shame. Aang has a vision of when he first attempted Firebending, and severely burned Katara's hands. He repeats aloud the promise he made afterwards: that he will never Firebend again. Pathik dismisses this, saying that in order to obtain Balance, Aang must accept all aspects of his life. As the Avatar, Aang must Firebend. Aang breathes in and out once, releasing the chakra.

Aang and Pathik have now moved on to open the fourth chakra, the Air Chakra. Located in the heart, this chakra deals with Love, and is blocked by Grief. Laying his grief before him, Aang meditates, and sees all of the Air Monks he knew, with Gyatso at the front, all of whom died because he abandoned them. They fade away into dust. Love, according to Pathik, is a form of energy, and flows around everything, and that the monks' love for Aang is still all around them, and manifests itself inside of new love- the love Aang feels for Katara. Aang releases the chakra, teary-eyed, and asks for more juice before they continue.

The fifth Chakra is the Sound Chakra, and is located in the throat. It deals with Truth, and is blocked by the Lies people tell themselves. Pathik says that all must accept who they are, and that Aang must accept he is the Avatar, even though he never wanted to be. Aang sighs, and quickly and calmly accomplishes this, and he opens the Chakra.

Aang and Pathik move quickly to the next Chakra. Located in the center of the forehead, the sixth chakra is the Light Chakra, which is responsible for Insight, and is blocked by Illusions. The greatest Illusion, Pathik explains, is that of Separation: things that appear separate but are, in truth, one and the same. Aang mentions the Four Nations, and Pathik agrees, stating that the people of the world are in reality one people, despite their decision to live as separate nations. Even the Separation of the Four Elements is an illusion, Pathik explains. He mentions metal, which is simply Earth which has been purified and refined. As Pathik continues to speak, Toph continues bashing her hands into the metal walls of her cell. Her blows send out vibrations, allowing her to sense the fragments of Earth contained within the metal. Toph reaches out for the fragments, and continues stubbornly beating against the cell, eventually leaving a good-sized dent in the center. She cheers, and congratulates herself for her discovery, before continuing her assault on the cell's walls.

In Ba Sing Se, Katara and Momo, just before going to see the Earth King, decide to stop at a new tea house.

Pathik narrows his eyes, but remains calm, and states that if Aang ever wants the pure Cosmic Energy to enter him, he must let go of all earthly attachments, including Katara.Katara rushes into the palace, and tells Azula, whom she believes is Suki, that Prince Zuko and Iroh have infiltrated the city.

However, Aang is suddenly shocked when an image of Katara, struggling in chains and screaming for help, appears behind him.

  • The only important thing in this episode was that Aang was learning how to master the Avatar State. Everything else was just following up the last episode. Aang learning how to master his Avatar State was the main reason to watch this episode.

I think this was an excellent episode. I was waiting to see how Aang would learn to use his Avatar State and finally they showed how he could achieve it. The flashbacks were great too. At first I did not think that Aang would be able to achieve such a state that quickly. I was expecting that Aang was going to go somewhere to unlock one of his "chukkras" but obviously it would have taken him a longer time. So the way it was done was much better. It was straight to the point and still very well explained. All in all, very well thoughtout.

This episode was basically just leading up to the last thirty minutes but it was still pretty good. Ok so lets start with Zuko first again. He was way too happy in this one! Sure I was happy that he is finally getting used to his new life and turning good but him changing that fast is unrealistic and it kinda scared me, he was kinda acting like joodee being so happy and smiley like that. I was really glad for Iroh though he was so happy Zuko was finally becoming happy and he has a nice new life, too bad Azula found out about them though now their new life will be shattered cuz no way will she go easy on them! Ok next lets move to Katara not so happy with her, making that lame joke when they were planning war I mean how stupid and then running cuz she saw Zuko... ok I can understand that but yelling it all out to the "kyoshi warriors" before she even saw them was stupid and why hadn't she went to see them sooner? Ok to Azula cuz I want to keep all the people in the city together. She is smart, I have to say that I hate the B**ch but I got to give her some respect she is one smart cookie and she can sure act, when she was taken to long feng(im not sure...) I almost believed she didn't know it was coming, but I'm not that slow I did realize she was acting! I'm very angry about her being so smart though, when Mai and Ty lee were talking I was all like yes! Now they will be caught but nooo! Also Ty-lee was annoyingly cheerful in this one, not that she isn't always but it seemed like she was over doing it in this one. She also brought up the real kyoshi warriors, its not looking good for them but you never know maybe the creators will keep them dead cuz we want them to be alive or they could bring them back at the end to help out just to prove us wrong cuz we think they are dead, who knows? Ok to Toph at first I was like poor Toph and then I was like great just another reason for her to be cocky and she was but whatever I don't like people who don't have a weakness but she still does just as long as she doesn't get annoyingly cocky I'm happy for her, but really someone else should have figured that out before her, like boomy(don't know if I spelled it right) or another avatar or something but still whatever I'm tired of hearing my self complain when its not that bad. So moving on to Sokka. I felt bad for him, I mean I felt his awkwardness it was weird but I liked his dad he was cool and Sokka is like him but maybe a bit more sarcastic and not as wise, but they were cute together, it was kinda sad that we couldn't see more of them. Last but not least is Aang. The guru I am just not sure about him I didn't like him at first but watching this episode again he kinda grew on me. So the chakra thing was pretty interesting and I liked seeing what Aang thought and all that but I thought he let go of stuff way to easy, I mean it has been bugging him for how long and then in a matter of minutes he lets it all go? Yea right! But I guess this is like in the first finale when Katara learned to bend really good really fast. So the last chakra Aang had to let go of Katara and as much as I don't like them together his reaction to letting her go was so adorable! So I had mixed feelings about that half of me was all like disgusted cuz he said he loved Katara and the other half was like awwww how cute. The big glowing Aang was pretty cool too but I think that by now Aang should have known that Katara can take care of herself he didn't need to come to her rescue but who knows I guess I will see what happens.

this was one of my favorite episodes. I liked the crossroads of destiny the best but this was still good. I liked how the guru was teaching aang and about charkras. charkras are real and I am always amazed at how the creators put so many real world things into this show. it's why i like it. they even showed a past avatar in here several times. they showed avatar yangchen. i also liked seeing the eastern air temple and learing that the guru was friends with monk gyatso. i also liked the visions aang had. I can't wait for season three.
  • A well-thought out episode that reveals Azula's plot to control Ba Sing Se and Aang's chakras.

    9.3
    "Superb"
This episode is pre-finale, and it is very dramatic. Basically, Sokka goes to meet his father who he hasn't seen in years, Aang is opening the seven chakras with Guru Pathic, Katara and the Ba Sing Se war chiefs plan to invade the Fire Nation on the Day of Black Sun, Azula is teaming up with Long Feng to control Ba Sing Se, and Toph is being carried away in a metal box by Xin Fu and Master Yu. The drama of Aang facing his fears as well as the side stories make this a very riveting episode to watch! I recommend to watch this episode, anyhow: it IS the pre-finale.
  • The fact that this episode was a pre-finale episode saved it from my criticsm.

    9.4
    "Superb"
To explain what my "summary" meant, it means that the fact that this episode was a pre-finale episode to the Crossroads of Destiney saved it tons of critiscm from me. First off, there was a lot of talking and not too much action. But this is a good thing though it built up the waiting for the finale and got the whole thing going about the Avatar State to let it all crash down next when Katara gets captured by Azula (when Ty Lee disabled her wow shock). Other than that it was cool when Toph bended metal for the first time. So, it was a superb episode. Man I can't wait for the next season!
  • Well, this episode is very important, it helps us to understand and know more about Avatars, Avatar state and all this stuff. This episode make us think another way about four nations.

    9.8
    "Superb"
Well, this episode is very important, it helps us to understand and know more about Avatars, Avatar state and all this stuff. This episode make us think another way about four nations. All time we were watching 'Avatar:the last airbander' we thought about them as about something very different and unconnecting, but Guru opened eyes - why all nations can't connect?! Only thing that divides them is bending! I think that nations and tribes must stop war of course and connect in one large State! Some years later there won't be only waterbenders, earthbenders and firebenders - their bending will mix! And people will be able to bend two elements. Well, what about Aang... As i wrote, now we know more about Avatars. We understand that Avatars are not just people, they should not even FEEL. They can't be afraid, can't feel shame, worring about something... And the main thing - they can't LOVE. Just can't! Avatars have special mission on this land - they have to keep peace, to rule all nations. It is forbidden to enjoy vital pleasures as love is! That's why to control the Avatar State Aang HAS TO forget Katara!... It is a pity, but it's right... Guru tries to explain all this to Aang, but Aang doesn't understand - he doesn't WANT to understand. Guru helps him to open the chakras that will lead to Aang's mastery of the Avatar state, but he can't convince Aang that to be a real and powerful Avatar he needs to forget Katara. It's a big impact for boy...
  • Aang meets with Pathik, who helps Aang clear his conscience and open the chakras that will lead to his mastery of the Avatar state. However, Aang is hesitant to follow the Guru's advice to give up Katara. Sokka also sees his father again.

    9.7
    "Superb"
This episode was absolutely beautiful. It was one of the more emotional of the series. I loved finding out that the monks' love for Aang had been reborn into his love for Katara. I also loved how hurt and helpless Aang felt when he found out he had to give up Katara. It adds a nice new depth to Kataang (and Zutarians can no longer say there is nothing stopping Kataang from happening). Sokka meeting his dad was also really sweet. I'm not usually a huge fan of father/son scenes, but the ones in "The Guru" were really good. I liked the idea of the chakras, and the ending led right into "The Crossroads of Destiny." Overall, this was a wonderful episode. Kudos to Mike and Bryan for such a wonderful season finale.
  • Very interesting pre-finale episode

    8.0
    "Great"
I think that it was a very good episode. Well plotted as the first part of a two part episode. However, I think they spent too much time with aang, even though the episode was pretty much all about him. Toph being able to bend metal was a nice, but not totally unexpected surprise. I must say that the gang leaving ba sing se without saying hello to suki and the others is highly out of chracter for them. Sokka especially because of his feelings for suki. It had to be that way for plot purposes, but it just hurt the overall integrity of the show for them to have done something so out of character.
  • It was an okay episode but to much talk not enough fighting. Aang didn't use any common sense when he was using earthbending against azula. Like the move Aang uses to slam a huge rock into the ground does barely any damage to zuko and makes aang di

    5.1
    "Mediocre"
zuko was winning against aang 4 once. Azula pretty much lost to katara. ty lee for the first time took out katara in like 5 secs flat. the guru is useless. Aang has not learned to use his head with bending as he was told to by Bumi. The only moment when he actually thought b4 he attacked was when azula was on the rock piller and he smashed it. Otherwise he hasn't learned a thing. Zuko's match with katara was good though. Especially when they both had a heart to heart just before their fight. The move zuko used was a fire verson of the dual water whip was pretty cool but i wonder how he was able to maintain it. All in all it was okay but could of been better
  • Toph definetly rules.

    "Perfect"
This episode was of course as exciting and funny as I expected. I just want to kick the Earth King and Katara for giving the information to Princess Azula. She is so lucky that within a day, she has found out everything and made contact with Long Feng. And now I have a extreme liking for Uncle Iroh and Zuko, because they seem to have changed their ways and is now enjoying life, and I'm hoping Zuko will be the one that teaches Aang about firebending. Poor Aang, torn between love for Katara and being the Avatar. My vote though for this episode is Toph, she is awesome, and as she put it 'I rule', because now she knows metal bending, and I don't think anybody else does.
  • Avatar is the BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!! - I thnk the guru was awesome. why are the fire nation so evil? makes you wonder about how it compares to us in real life....

Avatar rocks hardcore!!!!! -the guru could have been a hole lot better thow. like when sakka meats up with his dad and how the guru does his tests. Man bending mettle must be hard mabe angs earth bending teacher is the best earth bender? anyway this episode rocked!! if you havent seen it yet you should check it out....all the chapters rocked so far. I wonder if the avatar will ever stop the wars that the earth and fire nation are now having? Man it sucks that there are no more air benders or mabey there is i didn't read the books im just watching the episodes...

this is my personal favorite episode in the series because it tells you the way aang can control the avatar state also toph finds out that she now can metal bend as well as earth bend. when sokka meets his father he is thrilled but once aang tries to open the last part to complete control of the avatar state he sees katara in trouble so he leaves the guru to get sokka and then the freed toph. aslo katara discovers that the kyoshi worriors are realy azula, mail and ty lee can katara fight azula and her gang watch the episode and see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
  • A great episode with shocking details.

    "Superb"
Another great addition to Avatar, even it had hardly any action, it was still a great episode. The chakras that Guru Pathik was talking about was very interesting, some people say it was boring, but I think it was very interesting. Aang's greatest fear is fighting Fire Lord Ozai, I can't blame him, Ozai is a monster. When Ty Lee took down Katara, I thought Katara was dead, thankfully she wasn't. I really wanted to see Hakoda's men fighting the Fire Nation to see how good they are. This is a special episode and this episode will receive a 9.5.
