  • The Library

    9.0
    "Superb"
The Library was a really superb and entertaining episode of Avatar The Last Airbender. I really enjoyed watching this episode because it was full of action, intrigue, and plot development. It was interesting to see how Toph handled sand. I thought the story of the Library was very interesting as was the Spirit who founded it. I was glad to see that Sokka's plan worked out in the end and the gang now have valuable information that could help them to defeat the Fire Lord Ozai. The ending of this episode was sad as one of the group was captured and taken away with out a trace!!!!!!!
  • Knowledge is priceless.

Although there was barely any action besides that chase scene with the dragonized owl, there was a crap load of story development and man was it awesome. The idea of an ancient library is actually pretty unexplored territory--especially one guarded by a giant owl. Usually you see guys traveling deep into uncharted lands to acquire gold and jewels with information conveniently sitting on the laps amongst all those treasures, but here we just have a plain library. How Sokka and them were able to acquire an important piece of information that will help the Earth Kingdom gain the edge in the war felt almost exhilarating; the thoughts of pre-war preparation are always fun. What was also interesting was the use of the archeologist in this episode. Instead of escaping with the rest, he decided to read for an eternity within the submerged library. It shows that people are willing to sacrifice a lot in order to gain knowledge even without status gain.
  • Aang and the gang encounter a scholar who tells them of a secret library. They set out with him to find the library and information on the Fire Nation.

This episode wasn't too bad, but that bird owl thing that guards the library was just too freaky for my taste. A scholar, Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Momo go into the library, and search for information about the Fire Nation. Sokka finds a piece about the blackest day in Fire Nation history. He and the gang follow another spirit to a room where you can predict the moon and sun positions for any day of the year and whatever year you choose. With this, they discover a solar eclipse will happen soon, and on that day, the Fire Nation will lose their bending powers. The owl discovers their plans, and tries to sink the library and kill them. They make it out (the scholar doesn't because he chose to remain there forever) and they get out in time. Meanwhile, a group of bandits steal Appa while Toph is distracted trying to save the library.
  • Deciding that they have worked hard and need a break, Team Avatar decides to take a few mini-vacations and relax. However, events do not always transpire as planned for our young heroes, and the events that ensue have a dramatic effect on their future.

    9.5
    "Superb"
Having undertaken "bitter work" in the previous episode, our young heroes need a vacation. The "mini-vacation" that Aang chooses is quite comical. He chooses to visit a prairie home to a population of prairie dogs that respond to the musical notes Aang plays from his flute. The prairie the team visits is reminiscent of the prairies surrounding the Black Hills in South Dakota. After Sokka's impetuousness ends Aang's mini-vacation prematurely, they embark to an oasis near a massive desert. Upon their arrival at the oasis, they meet a professor from Ba Sing Se University. The professor is a friendly character, albeit a bit eccentric. He is interested in one thing and that is acquiring more knowledge. His treatment of Aang as an ancient relic is fairly comical. Upon learning from the professor that a library exists which may have a map of the Fire Nation, Sokka decides to spend his mini-vacation "at the library." Upon finding the library, our friends meet the ancient knowledge spirit, Wan Shi Tong (WST). Resembling a giant owl, WST is insistent that humans only use knowledge to harm other humans. He is adamant that the knowledge contained in his library will not be used for such nefarious purposes. Upon being reassured by Aang that his group will not abuse the knowledge gained from his library, WST allows them to browse his vast collections. The interactions between the eloquent and wise WST and the almost oafish Sokka is quite comical. Upon discovering that the room dedicated to the Fire Nation has been destroyed by fire benders, presumably Amdiral Zhao, Sokka laments their continuing misfortunes. Sokka, however, has spoken too soon. One of WST's knowledge seekers has alerted the team about an event that renders a firebender's powers useless. Once WST discovers the team's intentions, he becomes angry and begins to attack the group. Determined that humanity has abused his knowledge for the last time, WST begins to collapse the library upon itself returning it to the spirit world. As all of this is transpiring, Toph is above ground attempting to halt the library's collapse. As Toph is occupied, a group of sandbenders arrives and captures Appa. The capturing of Appa is a sad event. It truly brings out the emotions in the viewer. As Aang and his comrades escape, the professor decides to stay behind. He cannot fathom leaving such a vast collection of knowledge. Upon leaving the library, the rest of the team discovers that Appa has been captured. The capture of Appa, and the (presumed) death of the professor, causes this episode to end on a sorrowful note.

This episode is exciting and special in so many different ways. Toph had no choice, well, actually she did. Buy no offense to Appa but, Aang had to be saved, or the world would've been doomed. Wan Ti Shong (or whatever his name is) had a giant collection of books. Very well prepared episode. I like this 2-part movie. Some people think that it wasn't necessary, but I think it was. I really liked the character Wan Ti Shong because number 1, HE'S A TALKING OWL! Prefessor Zei is crazy, he stayed in The Library, he was gonna die though! I think he's crazy. Overall, I think this episode was better than The Desert, and I give it a 9.4.

  • Aang and the gang meet a professor who talks of an ancient lost library.

    9.0
    "Superb"
Overall a good episode but maybe not one of my favorites. I did however enjoy the look and feel of the library that the group stumble upon. You know coming in, that the professor is right when he later states, "That there is no other place like it on Earth." The numerous halls of books that seem to go on for forever however are put to one side when the group finds an astronomy room that reveals a great weakness in the Fire Nation. The rest of the episode is action, but good action. The ending is a little sad for me. If I recall I think this episode with a few others were part of a "Fury of Aang" montage over him dealing with the loss of others. But I won't say anymore.
  • An under ground library was discovered in the lead of a professor in Ba Sing Se, would they discover some new things about the fire nation?

    "Superb"
The gang met with a professor in Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kindom capital, the professor told them about a tale of an existing myterious library hidden in the desert.

Without much difficuties, the group finally found the library, only to discover that it was half barried in the desert. There they met with the knowledge spirit Wang Shi Tong and were allowed to go through his vast collection of knowledge under the condition that they wouldn't use the knowledge in the war.

Sokka found out an amazing fact that they can use against the fire nation -- firebenders lose their power during an solar eclipse, unfortunately Sokka's excitement didn't last long, their purpose were soon found out by Wang Shi Tong. He decided to sink the library, after much struggle, the group manage to escape with the help of Toph from the outside, but the professor insist on staying inside the library. Trying to keep the library from sinking Toph had to give up Appa whom was attacked by a group of sand bender and was shipped to some unknown places.

The scene opens with Aang sitting in the ground looking over a vast open savanna type landscape. The scene then shifts showing the gang standing behind the seated Aang, who is holding a flute in his hand and Sokka asks "What's out here?" As Toph bends down to touch the ground, she responds "A lot actually." Just as she's about to elaborate, Aang interrupts her telling her not to ruin the surprise. Aang make a musical note with the flute and then a ground-hog type creature emerges and repeats the same note. After several more notes, a frustrated Sokka pus his finger into the end of the flue and states they need to make plans. Toph points out they are making plans - mini-vacations plans. Sokka doesn't feel they have time for vacations. Aang points out he is working his "arrow off" diligently with Toph and Katara to master the elements and Katara agrees there's nothing wrong with enjoying themselves during their downtime. Sokka is very concerned they have no inside information about the Fire Nation and that even if Aang masters the elements then what do they do as they have no idea how to even find the Fire Lord let alone defeat him. Sokka states they need intelligence (information) in order to win the war. Katara aptly states "All right, we'll finish our vacations and then we'll look for Sokka's intelligence." For her mini-vacation, Katara chooses the Misty Palms Oasis from Aang's map. However, the gang soon finds out the Misty Palms Oasis has gone downhill in reputation in the past 100 years. They go into a bar-like establishment where an employee prepares a fruit beverage using broadswords in almost a teppanyaki style preparation. The customer being served accidentally bumps into Aang spilling some of his drink onto Aang. Aang uses his airbending to dry himself. The customer, excited to meet an airbender, introduces himself as Professor Zei of the Ba Sing Se University. He begins quizzing Aang as though Aang is a science specimen. Sokka inquires as to whether the Professor has a more recent map and the Professor unrolls a map showing a vast desert with routes marked where he has gone in search of the Knowledge Spirit's library. With the possibility that the library may have information to be used against the Fire Nation, Sokka dramatically announces his choice for the next mini-vacation to be the library. The Professor states it is impossible to cross the desert and the gang then introduces him to Appa. Sandbenders, who are Earthbenders who specialize in bending sand, are trying to take Appa, but the Professor shooed them away. The group heads out in search of the large library. After a long search, Sokka finally spots something that looks like a tower sticking out of the sand. Just as they are about to give up, a fox carrying a scroll walks up the side of the tower and into a window at the top and Sokka realizes this is the library. Devastated that his life long dream of finding the Knowledge Spirit's library is buried, the Professor drops to the ground and begins to excavate. Toph puts her hand on the tower and announces the library is intact under the sand. All but Toph and Appa head into the library. After entering the library, they hear something approaching and hide behind ornate columns. A huge black white-faced owl comes out. After a few moments taking in his surroundings, the owl speaks, telling the group he knows they are there. Professor Zei comes out excitedly and introduces himself. The owl is less than impressed and tells the Professor he should leave or he will stuff him like an animal trophy. The others come out from hiding and Sokka asks if he is the spirit who brought the library to the physical world to which the owl says yes. The Knowledge Spirit then informs them that humans are not permitted in the library anymore because they abuse the knowledge in his library. After Aang promises they will not abuse the knowledge, the owl relents but only after each provides some knowledge for the library. The Professor offers a first edition book; Katara offers a waterbending scroll; Aang offers his wanted poster and Sokka offers a specialty tied knot. After accepting these donations to his library (some of which he is less than impressed with), the Knowledge Spirit descends into the lower levels allowing the group to look around. Meanwhile, Toph attempts to make small talk with Appa outside. She explains to Appa how because the sand is loose her "seeing" abilities are blurred (similar to when a person who wears glasses removes them). Back inside the library, the group looks around and we learn that in a previous life, Aang was once left-handed. Sokka finds a parchment stating the darkest day of the Fire Nation with a date. The group then goes in search of a Fire Nation wing of the library. Once they find it, they are shocked to discover everything has been destroyed by firebenders. From nowhere a fox appears and indicates that it will lead them to where they can get more information. The fox opens a door to a planetarium and shows them how to use it. Katara suggests putting the date from the parchment and then run the machine. Once this is done, they realize a solar eclipse will incapacitate the firebenders in a manner similar to how the removal of the moon affected the waterbenders. Just as Sokka is gloating about how the firebenders going down, the Knowledge Spirit appears. Understandably angry, he flaps his wings and begins sinking the library. The group begins to flee with the owl chasing them. Outside, Toph realizes the library is sinking. Her initial attempt to stop the sinking proves fruitless as she begins to sink herself, but she then manages to solidify some sand around her feet while using her fists to slow the library's decent. As the chase inside the library continues, Sokka has Aang come with him back to the planetarium so they can see if or when the next solar eclipse will happen before the return of Sozin's comet. The spirit continues to chase Katara and the Professor as Aang and Sokka head back. While continuing to hold up the library, Toph becomes aware that others are there. Sandbenders arrive, but Toph can not make out who is there or where they are. Aang and Sokka begin checking dates from that day to the arrival of Sozin's comet and eventually find the date of the next solar eclipse, which is in a few months away. Alternating between holding up the library and shooting random shots at the sandbenders, Toph loses her battle to protect Appa while continuing to hold the library up from sinking. The Knowledge Sprit catches up to Katara and tells her he is versed in all types of waterbending styles and her bending will do her no good. Suddenly Sokka drops down on the owl and knocks it out. As they begin to ascend the rope, Sokka calls to the Professor who refuses to leave. The spirit regains consciousness and shakes Sokka and Katara off the rope, but Aang manages to catch them and flies them out of the library. Realizing they are out, Toph releases her grip on the library and it vanishes into the sand. Although initially happy at the discovery of a weakness to the Fire Nation, the mood changes once hey realize Appa is gone. A tear goes down Aang's face and the camera pans to the sun and fades to black.

  • The kids help an anthropologist find a spirit's lost library in the middle of a desert, where Sokka hopes to discover powerful secrets to use against the Fire Nation.

In a prairie, Aang sit on the ground playing notes on a flute. As he plays, multiple groundhogs pop out and back into of the ground, reciting each note accordingly. It isn't long before Sokka gets fed up and puts and an end to this recital, stating that they have more important things to be doing and plans to be making. While his fellow group members all agree to take a little "mini-vacation" as a way to unwind after all the work they've done, Sokka thinks the group should instead be working towards gaining intelligence on the Fire Nation, more specifically a map for when Aang must eventually confront the Fire Lord. Katara agrees that they should and will do intelligence some gathering--after the next vaction. It also happens to be her turn to pick their next vacation spot. When given a map, she chooses a place called the Misty Palms Oasis, which according to Aang, is pristine natural ice spring and one of nature's wonders.

However, the vacation soon changes direction when the oasis turns out to be a small, walled desert village, ironically devoid of any plant life and filled with mud houses, with a barely visibly, melted iceberg in the center.Nevertheless, the group ventures into the oasis's cantina, passing three young men wearing light brown clothing and wrapped in rags loitering just before the entrance, one of which spits at Sokka's feet. Inside, Aang accidentily bumps into a customer, causing the man to spill his mango drink all over his shirt. Unaffacted, Aang swiftly uses a contained gust of air to dry his clothes, exposing his Air Nomad origin. Both awed as well as fascinated by this discovery, the man introduces himself as Professor Zei, head of anthropology at Ba Sing Se University. Seeing as he must be a well-traveled person, Sokka asks the professor if he possesses a map. Zei produces one, but much to his dismay, unfortunately doesn't contain any territory of the Fire Nation. However, Zei goes one to tell them that he is searching for a legendary library said to be in the middle of a nearby desert; the library, said to have been created by the spirit of knowledge and his fox servants, has more valuable tomes than any other place in the world. Sokka, enthusiastic that he may be able to get information on the Fire Nation there, and seeing that it just so happens to be his turn, dedicates his "vacation" to finding the lost library.

With Appa's aerial abilities, the group is soon able to find the library, utterly buried in the sand, save its single, highest tower. After seeing a fox run vertically up the spire and through a window, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Momo and Professor Zei follow suit and use the window to enter the library; Appa stays outside, of course due to his size as well as his distaste of being underground, as does Toph, who cannot read since she is blind. Toph also mentions that, because of the loose desert sand, she has difficutly feeling the vibrations in with her feet as well as she normally can with solid ground, making her lose her usual advantage. When the group descends into the library, they are confronted by the suspicious spirit, Wan Shi Tong, who originally constructed the library and takes the form of a large owl. The spirit, apparently dislikes the fact that humans seek and use knowledge solely to obtain an advantage over other humans, going on to bring up the last human to have discovered his library, who happened to be Admiral Zhao (Zhao mentions a library in "The Siege of the North"), and states his belief the group only wants to get information to help them defeat their enemies (which is, of course, true). Making use of Aang's Avatar title as a vouch, Sokka shakely manages to convince the spirit to let them in, however, and each find a bit of knowledge to contribute to the library (the professor's first edition book, Katara's waterwhip waterbending scroll, Aang's wanted poster, and Sokka's butterfly knot). The group is then allowed and proceed to go searching for information in the vast collection of tomes.

After collecting various books and tomes, Sokka finds an encased burned document that mentions "the darkest day in Fire Nation history;" it has a date but no other information. Hoping to uncover more towards the subject, the group heads down towards the Fire Nation wing. Unfortunately, it turns out that Zhao, before leaving, apparently destroyed every other bit of information about the Fire Nation. However, one of the Knowledge seekers comes across the group, and leads them to a large, dome-shaped room dedicated to astronomy. There, a date can be entered on a stone pedestal filled with dials, which then displayes the precise coordinates of the heavens on that particular date. When Sokka enters the date of "the darkest day," it shows a solar eclipse occurring. Though still unaware of what happened on that day, the group is able to come to the conclusion as to why: solar eclipses must weaken or take away their firebending, in the same way lunar eclipses affect waterbending. They also realize that the information can be used to plan a devastating attack on the Fire Nation forces.Soon, however, Wan Shi Tong appears with his all suspicions confirmed. The knowledge decrees that he will never again allow humans to misuse his beloved information and with violent flaps of his wing, begins to submerge the library. Outside, Appa makes a drowsy Toph aware of the sinking library, who then begins to strain to hold up the tower using her earthbending. However, at the same time the "Sandbenders" from before arrive and attack. The desert tribesmen quickly make it apparent that they have come to abduct Appa. Toph initially attempts to stave off the abductors, but soon finds it impossible to hold up the massive library for her friends' escape and simultaneously fight off Appa's assailants. In the end, the Sandbenders are able to overpower and with off with Appa.

Inside the library, Aang and Sokka hurriedly try to use the planetarium room to find the next date of a solar eclipse before the library submerges completely. After numerous tries, the two are able to find the next one, which turns out to be only a few months away. The group then quickly escapes. Professor Zei decides to remain with his life's work than to see it vanish forever; the others have no choice but to leave him. Aang, Sokka and Katara escape just before Toph gives in and the library vanishes into the sand. Looking around, Aang notices that Appa is missing and questions this. Toph merely groans and somberly shakes her head, as tears begin to roll down Aang's cheek.

This episode is a great example of how Avatar is not only a great show, but a great show that you can learn things from. This episode is all about the Gaang trying to dig some dirt on the Fire Nation and find a way to defeat it. However, the keeper of the legendary library that holds this key information, the spirit Wan Shi Tong, has a different view to their plight. He has seen countless generations of humans come and go, and all of them have the same ambition; to rid themselves of those they consider evil, or the ones that stand in the way of what they desire. Wan Shi Tong finds that his knowledge has been abused, and only lets the Gaang browse on one condition; they promise not to use the knowledge against others. They agree, but are secretly ready to crush this promise as soon as the spirit has turned his back. Wan Shi Tong finds out and is enraged. He finds that Sokka is taking knowledge to destroy the Fire Nation. When Aang explains that they are just trying to save the ones they love, Wan Shi Tong says that that is what everyone says. There is a great lesson to be learned here. No matter what side of an issue you stand on, the other side is always wrong, evil and corrupted. And you set out to destroy them for the exact reasons they use to set out to destroy you. We all want to make the world ours.

With me it's always the little things that make a huge difference. Yes there is the major plot development of the ~Day of Black Sun~ and so forth but for me this episode shows like no other Sokka as the superior idea-man and warrior strategist. I know, I know. You're saying huh, Sokka? But truly think about it. If Sokka had not insisted on returning to the calendar room with Aang and discovering when the next solar eclipse would occur what possible hope would anyone have in defeating the Fire Nation. Even with the fear of being devoured in the library, he sends everyone to safety and he and Aang stay until this vital information is received. Sokka really establishes himself as a capable leader and warrior in this episode.

Oh my god! APPA is stolen, this is going to be crazy. OUr big old buddy and the best character of the show is GONE. They have to get him back fast! It was cleverly plotted, leaving that gang no choice but to let appa get stolen because teh sandbenders caught the gang in thier moment of weakness. It was kind of cruel to abandon the professor in the middle of the desser like that to live with that evil spirit who doesn't understand the reasons for the war. I don't think it will be easy for the gang to get out of teh dessert without appa, i sense the beginning of a huge side plot coming up. But now that they have some info on the fire nation, we may finnaly win this war

It was truly sad that Zhou burned the firenation section of the library down. Which still puts one of the greatest flaws of trying to attack the firenation forth. They still do not have a map of the firenation. As a result they wont be able to find Firelord Ozai's palace. Its remeniscent of the tv show Bleach where Ichigo and his group invade 2 fortresses and have no idea where their going but conviently get the info from high ranking soildiers in thie opponents army. Hopefully they will get a map of the firenation off a ship or something. Maybe the pirates have one!!! Well anyway ala in all this was one of their greatest episodes but they could of cut down on the humor. Throughout the whole ep there was a joke almost every minute

ahhh! poor appa! those stupid sand benders! the were ugly and nasty and mean! anyway, the begining was so cute with the little animals in the ground! and the way aang acted when he saw the oasis was so funny! the way that guy made thoes drinks was really cool though. hmmm, the professer guy not so cool, kinda annoying, but he had some funny lines. tophs feet are nasty and dirty but she does walk barefoot, she was so funny though when she was like 'there it is!' and they all looked, ha ha ha ha shes blind, you actally saw a weakness from her in this episode, she cant see to well in the sand, and i like people to have a weakness other wise they get to cocky and powerful and shes cocky enogph! but we also saw how strong she was too by holding up that library, major cool, and when she let go all the cracks wow, but wouldnt you think a spirit would be stronger? it was sad though she couldnt help appa even though she tryed and she seemed real upset about it. her interaction with appa was funny though 'whats up'. though when they were taking appa he didnt seem to put up much of a fight he huge! and he was taken so easily, i dont get it. now to the library, it was huge, i dont see how they didnt get lost. the knowlegde sokka gave was halrious 'your not very bright are you?'. and he just kept puting stuff in his bag, it was like never ending, like mary poppins, i mean was it like empty when he brought it down?! and when sokka didnt want to talk in front of the fox cuz he was 'with the owl' that was so funny! anyway the owl was scary looking and when his neck got like tons longer, man oh man. i cant beleave sokka wanted to stay, and it seemed like they found the date rather fast to me. sokka style was funny though too bad i dont think any one will want to learn it :) i cant beleive that professer wanted to stay there and katara was just like ok, so funny. i wouldnt have been able to climb up the rope though, when did katara get those muceles? wow i cant spell. so any way now they know a way to get back at the fire nation, but how will they get to the earth kingdom with out appa? i miss him already.
  • An important installment of the avatar legacy!

This episode is very important to the Avatar: The Last Airbender storyline. The episode teaches us some important information. We learn that the fire nation was weakest on the day of a solar eclipse. We also learn that another eclipse is coming up in a few months. This helps us predict how the fire nation will fall. We also witness the capture of Appa. A sad, but very important event. It'll be dragged on for quite a few more episodes. Besides its importance, the episode was okay. It would've been better had it not been so boring at the begining.
  • This was the first episode I have ever seen on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Very special.

The Library was the first episode I ever watched for this series. Immediately after, I was hooked. The way it was developed just amazed me like nothing I have ever seen before in a series. The plot was awesome and the way they ended it left you wanting more, which now I know is how they always leave you. When Appa was taken I did not care because I did not know who he was, but now I think it was horrible yet needed. It was important to show that not always what you want will happen. That is exactly why i watch this series and I cannot wait until season 3.

    Very Nice.
  • The gang goes to a library and get into a freak (not swearing) of a mess.

The gang go to a library with loads of knowladge they can learn. Aang and Sokka find out about the eclipse. The Owl doesn't want them and the professor stays behind. Toph, meanwhile, is outside talking to Appa about how she can't see, then the ibrary starts to sink. Appa is then kidnapped and Toph is a dilema. She must safe the library and her friends or Appa. She chooses her friends since she couldn't let go of the library. Now, they are stuck. That must of stunk for them. I would freak out and run in the same direction for a while til I got land.
  • Being mainly the episode in which Appa is taken, forming the foundation of the second season up to now, this is a very special episode of Avatar.

This is quite a special episode of Avatar. Along with the capture of Appa, in this episode we also learn that a solar eclipse will leave Firebenders powerless on a day in the future, before Souzin's Comet arrives. Though this information has been mostly useless so far, as the Dai Lee would not permit anyone to talk of the war in Ba Sing Se, it most likely will be crucial in future episodes. In this installment we also see Aang in a state of shock, near the end, when he finds out Appa has been stolen, which is critical, as he shows rage beyond normal limits of the peaceful Airbenders at losing one of his best friends. Wan SHi Tong, in my opinion, was played out a bit too much, making the aspect a bit cheesy, but other than that, this was a great episode.
  • Aang and the gang find a professor looking for an ancient library. Inside, they meet Wan Shi Ton, a mysterious 10,000 year old spirit. He is untrustful to the gang for their purpose, but he lets them in, reluctantly. Outside Appa is stolen by sandbenders!

I love this episode, its my favourite ep of the whole series, because of Wan Shi Ton, a mysterious 10,000 year old spirit who took the form of a black and white owl, being one of the supposedly smartest animals in the world. Appa has a big part near the end, when he is STOLEN by sandbenders (earthbenders who are more skilled at bending sand to earth). Toph, of course is trying to stop them, even though she's holding the whole library with her hands. Inside, the library is magnificent. There are 10,000s upon 10,000s of books holding vast amounts of knowledge. Wan's main way of seeking knowledge is by using his knowledge seekers, little foxes. I hope you liked my review!!!Thanx

This episode was cool. They start off picking vacation spots and Kitara chooses oasis springs. When they get there it is nothing but a broken down city. They go in a bar and meet a professor, who tells them a bout a library full of knowledge... Saka chooses to go there for his vacation spot. They go around the desert looking for it and they find the tip of the library. The library is burried in sand. Saka, Kitara, Aand and the professor go in. They convince the spirit to let them stay. But whe the spirit catches them using the information to change what's going to happen teh spirit attacks them. Saka nees to find out when the next solar eclipse is so that he can tell the Earth Nation and they can take down the fire nation on that day because the fire nation losses their power when there is a solar eclipse. They manage to get out of the library, but the sand benders have taken Appa because the earth bender coudn't save Appa because she prevented the library from sinking.
  • Having the library founded by a spirit is a nice touch as well.

This episode portrays exactly why Avatar: The Last Airbender is a top-notch series loved by millions. The episode was written brilliantly, with a touch of humor (lots of fun poked at Toph's blindness, but it was inevitable that at some point they would use that to their comedic advantage) and much drama. Having the library founded by a spirit is a nice touch as well.

The only flaw with this episode was it was a little too rushed, and I believe the professor was very flawed. How could Aang and Sokka check ALL those dates (and it didn't take two seconds to check a different date either - and they had to check several months) when the library was just about tumbling down, only to see a few seconds go by. That puzzled me. The professor was too concerned with learning rather than saving his life (I doubt Wan Shi Tong let him live).

Overall, though, it was a very good episode. And it most certainly was not Toph's fault :P
  • I loved this episode. It was adventurous and like nothing we have seen on Avatar so far.

In this special episode, Aang and the rest of the crew meet a professor who is looking for a library. They go to find the library but discover it\'s buried underground. They go inside, but leave Toph and Appa behind. They meet the guardian of the library, an owl, and tell him they won\'t use the materials for any bad reason. They figure out everything on the fire nation has been destroyed. They find a room in which they figure out when the fire nation soldiers will lose their bending. When the owl finds this out he tries to trap them but they get away. Appa get stolen in this episode as well.
  • This was yet another great episode. Good dialog, good premise, good plot.

This was a great episode. I always find it easier to rant about defects in bad episodes that to list all of the clever praise worthy parts in good ones. Toph was funny and clever again, I'm starting to really like her as a character. The idea of Appa being captured is brilliant. The idea of a solar eclipse being a weak point for the fire nation is awesome (although I don't see how Ang and Sokka had the time to check several months worth of dates for a solar eclipise while the owl was hunting Kataraa and Momo). And once again, Iroh and Zuko were great.
