    "Great"

This episode epitomes the series sense of adventure, creativeness, and originality. The viewer is treated with beautiful and creative landscapes, and gets to see the old world charm of technology and unique creatures. The episode brings in many good characters and ties in many plots throughout the series. It is also the gateway to a new start in the series that leads to the stories of living in Ba Sing Se (the largest city in the Earth Kingdom, and possibly their world).
Character development is deep, and action is good. There is even romance and many plot tie ins. So you will want to be knowledgeableof the series before jumping into this episode.

The episode also makes great use of a cliff hanger at the end of the episode, so be prepared when watching anything in this series. It's hard to start right in the middle.moreless

  • The Serpent's Pass

    9.5
    "Superb"
The Serpent's Pass was a really superb and entertaining episode of Avatar The Last Airbender. I enjoyed watching this episode because it was full of character and plot development as well as action, drama, intrigue, and adventure. Appa still has not been found and the gang encounter other refugees, one of whom is about to give birth. There were some great scenes and lots of humor as well as a little romance. I think the characters revealed more of themselves in this episode. It was awesome when the gang were trying to get tickets for the ferry and Toph just went in and used her Family's Papers which made everyone gravel before her. I look forward to the next episode of Avatar The Last Airbender!!!!!!!moreless

  • Meeting up with some familiar faces.

    8.5
    "Great"
This is a nice surprise; some old faces make a reappearance such as Suki and Jet with Suki teaming up with Aang and his crew and Jet and his league of refugee teens ganging up with the outcast Zuko. You'd automatically think that with so much nostalgic characters in one episode it's an instant hit, right? Well not really; not that this episode isn't great, because it was still a good watch, but some of the morals and lessons that were went over were kind of rushed. Sokka's issue with being overprotective over Suki has potential, but it jumped the ship too fast and with Suki leaving the cast, this is an issue that might not be solved again. Aang's situation is a bit better because it was already covered in the previous episode. Still a very good episode.moreless

  • Aang and the gang travel with a small group of nomads to get to Bah Sing Seh...

    9.5
    "Superb"
To get to Bah Sing Seh, Aang and the gang hope to travel on board a ferry. However, they are unable to get tickets because they don't allow pets on board. Toph gets tickets by showing proof of her social status and explaining that Momo is her seeing eye lemur. The gang does not take the ferry, however, because the nomads that also need to get to the city were not able to get tickets. Aang agrees to lead them through the dangerous Serpent's Pass. Suki, having been a guard at the ferry, agrees to accompany them. On the trail, Aang and Katara fight a giant serpent, Suki and Sokka kiss, and Katara helps deliver a baby the nomad parents named Hope.moreless

    • Suki: (blushing) Listen, I'm really sorry about last night. (looks askance) We were talking, and saying things, (closes eyes) I just got carried away and before I knew it I… (Sokka surprises her with a tender kiss, draws back) Sokka: You talk too much. Edit
    • Bureaucrat: Well, normally it's only 1 ticket per passport, but, this document is so official, I guess it's worth 4 tickets. Edit
    • Katara: I can't believe how many people's lives have been uprooted by the Fire Nation. Tahn: We're all looking for a better life. Safe, behind the walls of Ba Sing Se. Edit
  • Allusions

    ADD ALLUSIONS
    • Invasive Species When the Ticket Woman is speaking with the Cabbage Merchant, she mentions that a cabbage slug would ruin the ecosystem of Ba Sing Se. This is a reference to a term in ecology known as Invasive species. It occurs when an organism is transported from its native land, by a human, human invention (i.e. ship), or animal, to a new land. There it will have no natural predators to it and will have free reign to grow and expand with little to no hindrance. An example of an invasive species would be the Chestnut Blight Fungus. Edit
    • Avatar Cosplay When presented with the small group of imitators wearing costumes modeled after his image, Aang smiles and gives a nod of approval in their direction. This appears to be a "nod" towards the Avatar cosplayers (costume players), who have attended numerous panels dedicated to the show at various comic and anime conventions over the past year. Some of which have met Mike and Bryan in person and have been featured in Avatar Nick Mag articles. Edit
    • The Serpent from the Serpent's Pass greatly resembles Seadramon from the television series Digimon. Edit
