The Siege of the North (1) was a perfect episode, the first of a two part season finale. I really enjoyed watching this episode because there was a lot of action, drama, intrigue, and both character and plot development. I do have to say I was a little disappointed in the Northern Water Tribe's Defense as I thought they would have done some thing more constructive sooner. Prince Zuko continues his own quest to get the Avatar and has a touching moment with Iroh. Sokka had dissappointment and surprise while Katara used her abilites to protect Aang who has crossed to the Spirit Realm. The end of this episode was awesome and I look forward to watching the second part of the season one finale!!!!!!!
  • Fight scenes that are fun for the whole family.

It doesn't contain the smart witty writing of the last episode nor the morals and values that are usually taught after every episode, but it does contain some mind bashingly fun action scenes, fights, and battles! The scenes with Aang sabotaging the Fire Nation battleships were very entertaining and all of them were choreographed pretty well. Plus the Zuko and Katara fight later on in the meditation springs is one of the better ones in the show so far. Not to mention there seems to be an interesting storyline going on between Sokka and Princess Yue's soon to be husband. Great signs when this is only the first episode of a double episoder!

Admiral Zhao is now heading towards the North Pole to destroy it and search it to find hidden secrets. Zhao must not get to them however, as he is going to use his power for evil and conquer the world. His main target is to overthrow the city and find its special area where you can easily make contact with the spirit world, it also has two key figures: the koi fish that are a symbol of Yin and Yang. They are in a holding pond that balance the world's power, push and pull, good and evil! Since Zhao is coming, Aang and Katara must find the spiritual area with a beautiful waterfall. They make it in along with the girl with white hair whose name i forget. She is really cool! Too bad she has to make a sacrifice (herself) to revive the white (good) koi fish. Zhao is about to destroy it (but i don't think that happens until the next episode.) Katara also says that it the area is warm due to good spiritual energy, and blcoks off the biting cold wind outside of it in the deep northern region. We got a part two for this chapter, but the next episode is book one's last chapter.

This episode is the first part of the Siege of the North movie. The fight at the end between Zuko and Katara was a really good fight. I was surprised to see Zuko beat Katara in that fight. It was still a great fight with a great opener. Zhao's part of the episode was great also. His fleet practically destroyed the Water Tribe in seconds, well in that one shot. The fight between Aang and Zhao's men was pretty good too. Zuko and Iroh talking made me cry a little when Iroh said "Ever since I lost my son.." Zuko said "You don't need to say it" then Iroh says again "I think of you, as my own." That made me shed a tear. Overall, I give this episode a 9.8.

The Siege of the North, Part One is one of the best episodes in the entire first season and SERIES! Anyone who is a fan of a lot of action and fighting then this episode would be perfect for you. It is also especially good because it leaves you on a cliffhanger to the next episode. Even though this episode and the next were aired on the same night though. If you are not a big fan of avatar, and you think you hate the show, then if you watch this episode, I would guarantee you would love Avatar for now on. Perfect episode, you must watch it!
  • Should've gave part 2 a 10 too.

Great way to start off the finale. The whole Zuko capturing Aang really had me at the edge of my seat... or couch in a sense. I loved Aang's whole character of being mature and that whole finding a place to go to the Spirit World to meet Koh and stuff. Man that Katara and Zuko fight was epic.... too bad she lost in the end. But that's ok, cause she OWNed him in part 2. Well Seige of the North in general was a great hour-long episode and a great event. I wouldn't be suprised if this won an award one day.
  • this was a great wway to start this finale off. it showed wwhat avatar is made of

Zhao begins to launch his attack against the Northern Water Tribe. As the walls of the besieged city begin to fall, the Avatar taps into the spirit world and seeks the help of one of the oldest spirits, in hopes of saving one of the most prominent areas of the world. Can Aang combine forces with the spirits and save the Northern Water Tribe? This episode was a wonderful way to start off the exciting and epic seriezs finale. Zuko is disguised as a fire nation soldier hoping to get the avatar before Zhao. Towards the end of the episode, he has an epic fight with Katara.

Admiral Zhao begins to launch his attack against the Northern Water Tribe. Under the tutelage of Master Pakku, Katara's waterbending skills have improved to the degree she can defeat all of his pupils with ease. To both Pakku and Katara's annoyance, the same cannot be said for Aang (who doesn't take it very seriously). Meanwhile, Sokka takes Princess Yue on a ride on Appa, during which they nearly kiss. Soot begins to fall and Sokka recognizes it from when his tribe was attacked. He deduces that a massive attack is approaching.

The Northern Water Tribe prepares to defend itself from invasion and Sokka volunteers for a dangerous mission where several warriors will infiltrate the Fire Nation fleet. As the walls of the city begin to fall, Aang feels duty bound to prevent the same fate that befell the Air Nomads and the Southern Water Tribe. However, he finds that against such a vast fleet, he does not stand a chance and retreats in exhaustion.

Meanwhile, Iroh advises an arrogant Admiral Zhao to stop the attack before nightfall, especially with the advent of the full moon, which will give the waterbenders a powerful advantage because of the lunar sympathy of their powers. Zhao reluctantly agrees, but apparently has a solution lined up for the following night. Iroh meets with Zuko before his nephew takes off in a kayak to sneak in the city and capture the Avatar. He advises Zuko to remember his "breath of fire".

After some critical remarks from Sokka during a briefing (mainly about the Fire Navy uniforms), Chief Arnook decides to have him advise Hahn, the leader of the infiltration mission and Yue's betrothed. Sokka and Hahn get into a disagreement, causing Arnook to pull Sokka off the mission. A disgruntled Sokka is left behind until Arnook reveals the real reason behind the act: he wants Sokka to protect Yue.

Princess Yue, after relating the origins of the Water Tribe and its power, gives Aang an idea. If he can tap into the spirit world and meet with the Moon and Ocean Spirits, perhaps they can help him defeat the Fire Nation. Yue takes Katara and Aang to a hidden oasis and the most spiritual place in North Pole. Aang enters a trance after staring at the two koi fish in a pool and heads off into the spirit world. Katara is left to protect Aang. Zuko breaks into the chamber. Katara duels him, and with the power of the moon, is able to temporarily defeat Zuko. However, the sun rises and it enhances Zuko's powers, allowing him to defeat Katara. The Avatar is then kidnapped by Zuko while Katara is left unconscious until Yue brings Sokka and Appa back to the Spirit Oasis.
  • The Siege of the North Part 1 Aang is finally learning waterbending after a season of making his way to the Northern Water Tribe. Admiral Zhao interrupts…

    9.7
    "Superb"
The episode starts with a scene of Katara battling other students of Master Pakku. Master Pakku declares that Katara is the best student he ever trained. He then insinuates how not even the Avatar has accomplished that much. Scene of Princess Yue and Sokka. Yue says that she's engaged and they shouldn't be together. Sokka insists that they are just friends. However, he is proven wrong when Yue and Sokka go on Appa. They start to kiss and then move away when they realize what they're doing. Later, Sokka sees black snow. See examines it and says that it's soot mixed with snow and that it's coming from the Fire nation navy. The Northern Water Tribe was under attack by the Fire Nation and Admiral Zhao.

Sokka, Aang, and Katara go on a war meeting to discuss battle plans. Sokka volunteers to go on a dangerous mission. That mission is revealed as infiltrating the Fire navy and killing their leader. When Sokka sees the uniforms they were using he laughs. He comments on how those uniforms are old and the new Fire navy uniforms are different. He also describes Admiral Zhao for the Water Tribe.

Sokka later gets in a fight with another person on the mission who was to get married to Yue. That person was bragging about Yue's perks and Sokka got angry and was off the mission. Later, the Tribe Chief tells Sokka to protect Yue.

The Fire nation attack by launching huge fireballs at the city. Aang goes on Appa and takes out catapults. After hours, the Fire ships retreat for the night because the waterbenders draw their power from the moon. Admiral Zhao says he's coming up with a solution for this problem.

Meanwhile, Aang is depressed that he wasn't able to make a difference" since he only took out a dozen Fire navy ships. Aang wasn't there to defend his people from the Fire nation a hundred years ago. He wanted to make a difference this time and believed that he didn't. Aang thought of himself as a bad avatar since he didn't stop a war and couldn't destroy the Fire navy. While talking about this with Katara and Yue Aang realizes that the moon and ocean spirits may help if he can talk to them.

Yue leads Aang to the most spiritual place in the entire North Pole- the spirit oasis. Katara notices that the spirit oasis is warm, unlike everywhere else in the North Pole. Aang goes down by the pond and meditates. However, he is distracted by Yue and Katara. He tells them to be quiet. He continues to meditate, and goes all glowy.

Before, the attack Iroh told Zuko that the Fire navy would be landing soon. Zuko replied that he was working on a plan. Now Iroh goes to Zuko again. Zuko had taken off his disguise as a Fire navy soldier. He is getting ready to go down into the North Pole to capture the avatar. Iroh is concerned for Zuko's safety. Iroh tells Zuko to stay warm. Iroh also tells Zuko to remember his "breath of life" and that it may save Zuko. Zuko tries to get into the Northern Water Tribe. He sees huge walls and wonders how he's ever going to get in. Zuko sees some seals submerging under water in a cave. Zuko decides to go into the cave and take the risk that there is an opening. He reassures himself that the seals will need to go up for air, and if the seals can find air so can he. Zuko then recklessly jumps into the water and starts swimming after the seals. Zuko finally swims and reaches a small bubble of air. He takes a deep breath and continues. After a while, Zuko reaches the city. He uses his firebending to burn a hole in the ice and crawls throw. Zuko made it inside the Northern Water Tribe City. Back at the spirit oasis, where Aang is glowing, Yue asks if they should get some help to protect Aang. Katara replies that she can protect Aang while he's helpless in the spirit world. This is when Zuko steps in. Yue gets frightened and runs away presumably to get help.

Katara meanwhile fights off Zuko. Zuko is confident that he can beat Katara after fighting her so many times. However, when Katara pulls off many complex waterbending moves, Zuko realizes that he may lose before even fighting the avatar. Zuko also realizes that Katara has found a waterbending master to help her learn bending. After the fight continues, Zuko is shown to be off-balance. Finally Katara strikes Zuko down and freezes him. Katara then looks at the sun rising. Zuko also feels the sun. He takes a breath and blows out hot air melting the ice.

Zuko says, "You rise with the moon. I rise with the sun." Zuko then attacks Katara. Katara tries to defend but Zuko gains power from the sun. Meanwhile, Katara loses power since the moon went away. Zuko easily beats Katara and gains confidence. Zuko grabs Aang and takes him away somewhere. After Katara regains consciousness, he sees Sokka and Yue coming on Appa. Katara tells them that Zuko took Aang. They wonder where Zuko took him. At the same time, they all glance at the path leading away from the spirit oasis. The episode ends with a cliffhanger where Zuko is carrying Aang through a blizzard.

This episode is one of the best I've seen. It was well written and had plenty of action. It also showed us the first real full Fire nation attack. Also, Katara waterbending moves are finally improved.
  • Great action episode

As the Fire Nation attacks, (a great battle by the way), things don't go the Water Tribe's way as the plan to kill Zhao fails and the gang tries to find a way to slow down the Fire Nation fleet. Aang goes from ship to ship, but it's too much. Meanwhile, Zuko is in disguise and believed dead. Aang must journey to the spirit world to find a way to save the northern water tribe. In doing so he makes himself vulnerable just as Zuko attacks. An action packed episode that nears the end of the first season, this is a great episode to watch if someone watches Avatar for the first time.

It was so friggin' awesome!!! :D This episode was a great way to kick off the season finale. The animation was a little different in this episode, and now that I think about it, it's more similar to the animation in season two than in season one. But it was awesome all the same. The plot was outstanding and so suspenseful. I was shocked when Zuko beat Katara and stole Aang. It was...wow. When Zhao reveiled his plot to kill the moon and ocean spirits, that just screamed mega trouble. (And it did cause a LOT of trouble.) Seige of the North part 1 was an amazing episode.

Soot int the clouds... WOW ...pretty awsome. not to mention the music PHEW! I can not explain just how awsome this episode was. This episode was even the reasont hat I got really into the AVATAR series. I watched this episode and I was hooked. Ic ould not stop watching and i could not wait for the next season. To the creators of this show, I congratulate you.

So basically, the fire nation begins thier attack on the northern water tribe. As the ships come in to attack trys to stop them only getting seriously outnumbered. In the end at night the FN pull back because of the almost full moon. Sokka gets the duty of protecting Princess Yue while Aang also trys to get into the spirit world to get help(or knowledge) from them to defeat the FN. As he is doing this, Zuko comes along to try to kidnap him. Then he and Katara have like an awesome fight scene! At night Katara totally destorys him with her awesome waterbending skills(go Katara!!!) but in the morning Zuko wins because the sun is up. The episode ends when Katara wakes up and finds Aang gone. Sokka and Yue arrive with Appa. I thought this was a really great episode.

I really can't believe that they left us hanging at the end, I saw it on turbonick (www.nick.com/turbonick) and they on have Part one of these awesome episodes (they have part to but it is in spanish) so I totally was hanging at the end of a cliff not knowing what would happen down the Avatar road. I knew he survived I just didn't know if the fire nation got the North Pole or how Aang got away from Zuko. But if I would of watched it the night it came out then I would of been alright but I didn't so here I am writing about this totally awesome episode.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the first season. I'm not happy about the princess being engaged to that jerk; I was hoping she and Sokka would end up together instead. I loved the scene where Aang tried to attack the Fire Nation ships. I also like the scene where the princess and Katara are talking about Aang going into the Spirit World, and then Aang tells them to be quiet. That was so funny! I also liked the fighting scene between Katara and Prince Zuko at the end of the episode. I was very impressed by their fighting skills.
  • I love this battle of the siege!

This is a very good episode because Zhao and the Fire Nation army arrive at the Northern Water Tribe to invade it and takes control of Zuko's ship. Also Zuko escapes and goes many passageways where in the pond encounters with Katara and he fights with her but he loses. He gets the oportunity when the sun comes and says to Katara: you rise with the moon, I rise with the sun and he wins and takes Aang hostage into a blizzard in the frozen highlands of the Northern Water Tribe.

It was really cool the episode and stuff, because it had many epic action in it.

This is one of the best from avatar. It creates one of the most suspenseful action scenes ever created in avatar. This just looks so cool to watch! The Waterbenders were able to unleash their powers with great amount of force. This episode was also clearly to do with Sokkas jealousy because he likes Princes Yue so much but cant express his feelings toward anyone. The fight scenes in this episode are also magnificent because they are made with such detail and preciseness. The one part that i did like most in this episode what when Katara was fighting prince Suko and he got his butt kicked because it was nighttime and it was almost a full moon. Awesome episode i would def. rate this a A++.
  • This episode is about Aang when he gets to the spirit world a second time on purpose and when admiral Zhao attacks the northern water tribe.

This episode had a lot of action. Princess Yue Shows Aang the most spiritual place in the whole north pole, Aang tries to get to the spirit world, Zuko tries to get Aang, Katara tries to not let Zuko get Aang, Sokka tries to calm down when he figures out that Princess Yue is going to marry Hen who is a boy who always insults Sokka because he is from the southern pole. My favorite part of this episode is when Katara tries to fight Zuko. I hope you liked this episode as much as I do because this episode shocked me the whole way through.
  • Siege of the North (Part 1) absolutes rocks and shows just why Avatar is the very best animated show on television!

    "Perfect"
This episode is wonderful in showing the pains of war and love denied because of bad timing. The heart literally aches for Sokka and Yue who under any other circumstances would most likely be able to find a way to be together, but even their growing love and affection has to take a backseat to the Fire Nation siege of the north. The best scenes are the ones beween Sokka and the future husband of his love interest, Yue. Sokka shows enormous restraint and then just snaps because it is clear her future husband is totally in it for the prestige and benefits included in marrying the daughter of the chief. With this is the action-packed fight between Zuko and Katara over Aang in the meditation state. Katara has learned a few new moves and surprises Zuko with her waterbending skill. Best line from this episode is when Zuko melts the ice and snow Katara has encased him in at dawn informing her ratherly fiendishly that she rises with the moon but he rises with the sun as he firebends her into unconsciousness and takes Aang. Fantastic episode!
  • The Fire Nation has finally attacked the Northern Water Tribe. Although everything seems hopeless, Aang gets an idea and travels to the Spirit World with the help of the Spirit Oasis. Meanwhile, Katara trys to protect Aang from Zuko but fails.

This was truly an epic episode. It was amazing to see the Fire Nation attack the Northern Water Tribe. It was also interesting to see how much Sokka cares for Yue and how firebenders "rise with the sun" and waterbenders "rise with the moon." I loved the way the writers tied in spiritual factors into the episode. The Siege of the North (Part 1) was amazing and thrilling.
  • The Yue story was kinda predictable - 1st character in the series with white hair like that... And then just when you think we got everything figured out - Zuko comes along and grabs Aang's body. Need I say more...

I could only have wished that the season finale was a 2-hour special instead. You are constantly teased in this episode - Spirit Koi, Iroh in the spirit world, there's that monkey again, whose face was that last one on Koi - looked life firenation ???

And then there is the action - WOW. The graphics - double WOW. The water tribe soldiers - what? How come more credibility wasn't given to Sokka to brief the soldiers on what the fire nation uniforms looked like and a better strategy on trying to implement into their forces.

I will find many chapters here to download and to watch! Avatar episodes is always good and exiting and I think it is good that they who creatied Avatar: The Last Airbender thought abaut the idea to use the four elements to fight with and i think that Avatar is cool and good just because of that! And I really like it! Well done to those who creatied Avatar: The Last Airbender!
