This episode made me take notice of Avatar. I only watched a couple episodes, never really cared for the show. I thought it looked cool, but I never really follwed it. But then I saw this episode and it was astounding. Zhao is a bad-ass villian. Arrogant, evil, and relentless. Zuko opens up about his past, and I finally saw his character in a different light. Koh the face stealer was scary. The fight sequences kept me watching. Iroh was not just an kind old man but a powerful bender with great knowledge of the spirit world. Sokka was now a person rather than a comic relief when he held Yue's lifeless body. This is the epitome of finals and many action-fantasy animated shows should follow suite. "No, It's not over" favorite line!

The Siege of the North (2) was a perfect, awesome, and entertaining season one finale of Avatar The Last Airbender. I really enjoyed watching this episode as the The Siege of the North continued. I still think the Water Benders Defense was a little weak compared to what it could have been, but the episode played out well. I liked the stroy points about the moon and ocean spirits which were the mortal Koi in the Sacred Pond of the North. I also enjoyed the battle seens once Aang joined with the Ocean Spirit to defend against the Fire Nation Navy. I thought the episode ended well and I look forward to watching the nex episode of Avatar The Last Airbender!!!!!!!
  • EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC!!!

In my opinion, this is the best episode this season. Everything is well written, exciting, and suspenseful. Aang goes on a crazy adventure. Sokka expirences the good side and bad side of love. Zuko gos through drastic measures to capture Aang. He also has another confrontation with Admiral Zhao. Iroh helps the good of the world. There is also a new introduction to a character for the future of the series. This episode reached higher expectations than I thought it was going to be. This episode is EXACTLY why I watch this series. There are more episodes like this to come.

My god, this was just hands down amazing.....Too many things happened. Princess Yue gave her body up so the water bending tribe could win. Iroh actually tried to help the Avatar for a brief seond. General Zhou is dead, and it looks like the avatar and Zukko are going to have thier hands full with the new enemy they can both relate to.

    Zukkos sister....

So like I said, this was amazing on so many levels, words can't describe how cool it was. Anyone who even remotely likes this show should watch it...

  • Epicly epic ending!

I usually hate it when battles and fights need to dip into the supernatural in order to end something, but in this case, I was pretty speechless. It was enthralling, full of emotion, filled with exciting battles, wrapped up by a pretty sad but anticipating ending. Although Princess Yue becoming the new spirit that keeps the nature of balance in check isn't the most original idea, how the episode executed it was just damn near perfection, and while the love story between Sokka and Yue isn't exactly your Romeo and Juliet, it was still very good in its own right. Not to mention Aang fusing with one of the spirits to rid the Water Tribe from the Fire Nation was just badass. While all of the best parts at this point were already over, it still finished strong with Admiral Jao's death and the introduction of a new enemy, Zuko's own sister.
  • The second part to this epic episode!

Now we see what else happens and it is time for wrap-ups for book one! A great thing about this episode was that Aang in the spirit world comes across the Face Stealer! When he's about to leave, he shows excitement in his face when gaining important secrets from the face stealer, and is discovered and the face stealer almost gets his face! But Aang shows an emotionless expression just in time. Once Aang gets back from the spirit world, bad things break loose when Admiral Zhao kills the white koi fish, good thing Iroh steps in and tries to brutally hurt Zhao to get what he deserves. Zhao is stopped and his evil ways are put to an end when Aang gets into his Avatar state. But what makes a tearjerker ending, was the fact that Yue (yes that's right i remembered her name now!) has to sacrifice herself to revive the white Koi Fish and have her spirit go up to the moon, because when she was a little baby, the moon spirit used its powers to cure her. Well the war is over now, and the fire nation has been halted for a while, now we wait and see what action takes place in the famous book two! Book one is now finished. but by now i'm sure we all know that in book two new characters come into play, like Toph.
  • An excellent ending to the first season.

Really awesome first season ending. First, this episode really keeps you glued to the TV, waiting for what is going to happen next, revealing one thing after another. Zhao's plan to remove the moon, Aang and his talk with Koh in the spirit world, and Zuko with his plan to take the Avatar. They sprinkle fight scenes throughout the episode as well, which are all great, the Zhao and Zuko fight in particular being my favorite, although I wish it could be longer.

There is character development on Zuko's side, further revealing he isn't a straight-forward antagonist to the show, and is more complicated. It reveals his relationship with Hiro, and further explains things that have happened in the family. Personally, he's my favorite character.

The ending is pretty sad, with the sacrifice that happens with one character, and also introduces a new character, Azula, which makes you want to watch the next season, and what will go on then.
  • Best episode of the first season.

This is the best episode of Season 1. Three scenes occurring at the same time. The Aang in the Avatar State VS Zhao's Fire Nation Fleet. Sokka, Katara, Iroh, and Yue seeing how they could heal the Moon Spirit. Last but not least, the Agni Kai of Zhao VS Zuko. I thought that Zhao VS Zuko could have been a little longer, it was my favorite of the three scenes. Yue sacrificing herself for the moon was very dramatic and romantic when Sokka and Yue kissed on the LIPS! Also, Aang and Zhao's fleet was awesome. Aang was super powerful but Zhao and Zuko was the best fight that was in this episode. Overall, the series finale is a 9.9. in my book.

    zhao has surprised me.

    and zuko too.

i couldnt blieve that zhao once read.

and zuko tired to save zhao/.

this was a fine example of how a battle episode should be.

exciting, hand sweating, edge of seat action kept me alive during the commercials.

in avatar, after every episode it makes me want to learn more what happened after that.

    avatar has ended, sadly

but i think what avatar did to all the people who enjoyed the show should not be forgotton at all.

it should go down history as the best animated tv series.

avatar is the best i am telling you.

it is the best of tis kind.
  • Needed Aang to show a little more Avatar action other than that it was cool.

I like watching this episode simply the fact that this is the first of three times that Aang speaks while in the Avatar State. They couldn't have dramatized the voice out better. "No it is not over..." Then he goes glow and takes out a navy battle fleet, not to mention that Sokka's girlfriend becomes the moon, that's just ruff dude. I wish that Nickelodeon would let that show kill people and just do like Adult Swim did and air it during your Nick at Night crap. Some of you are probably not going to like that idea but we all no your up at twelve either A) jacking off to porn or B)watching adult swim just plain and simple. my apologies for the language of A)

9.8/10. aang talks to koh, the face stealer. koh tells aang that he can use the two fishes in the oasis. zhao ends up killing one of them so aangs uses the other fish's power and uses the avatar state to destroy all the fire nation ships. princess yue has to give her life away to save the other fish. she ends up dying by sokka's hands. now the north pole is safe and zuko doesnt look to obsessed with capturing the avatar no more by saying "im tired". so yeah... next season is gonna be better. i am now done
  • An excellent episode and is personally one of my favourites in the whole avatar series.

As the season 1 finale, I personally couldn't have asked for a better episode. It had everything, great action and fighting scenes, revealed a bit more about key characters and set up season 2 perfectly.

The bits I liked about this episode are the scene where Zuko is taking refuge in the cave away from the blizzard, the scene where Aang and the ocean spirit combine to defeat the fire nation army single handedly and the fight between Zuko and Zhao. The scene consisting of Zuko in the cave reveals a bit more about Zuko's background, and shows how he had to struggle and his determination. We see a bit more of a human side of Zuko, instead of the villainy character portrayed earlier in the season. The scene of Aang combining with ocean spirit sent shivers down my spine and one word to describe it would be Epic! We saw the raw avatar power and shows us what we could expect later in season 2 and 3.
  • An epic conclusion to season 1

This episode was the season finale of season 1 and truly was fitting. The epic battle, Princess Yue's sacrifice and Aang's merging with the spirit of the sea are still the greatest moments in the series and my personal favorites. This was also the first episode I ever watched and it got me hooked on the series because of how good it was. After I saw seasons 2-3 this episode was still the best and for good reason. Sokka's sadness for Yue's death was extremely human, just like many of the other moments on this show that set it apart from all other anime.

This was one of the most deepest Avatar episodes I've ever seen. I was crying when Yue died. It was so sad to see her go like that. Well on the bright side, Aang totally owned the Firenation with that superfish avatar state. I reallly liked it though. And I for one am glad that Admiral Zhoa's dead. He was always such a meanie to everyone. Well anyways, this is one of the best season finales I've ever seen of Avatar. And also a great way of introducing Azula at the very end of the episode. Well, R.I.P. YUEEE!! Or the moon spirit.
  • this was the best episode in season one and was by far the most epic, as is every season finale in avatar! :D

Man is this episode is great! This is probably my favourite episode in Book 1: Water. I enjoyed the relationship between Yue and Sokka, my favourite part was when Aang entered the Avatar State. This episode is a fantastic way to finish off Book 1, it leaves the viewers wanting more. There are loads of twists and great fight scenes. If I had to sum this Siege of the North (Part 2) up in one word it would be 'excellent'. Overall this is a great final chapter and an amazing finale for Book 1, I encourage everyone to watch it. 9 out of 10, enjoy!
  • THE BEST EPISODE SO FAR! The Season Finale!

The episode begins when Sokka and Yue find Katara crying in the middle of battle. She said that Aang was there and Zuko took him. Zuko beat Katara. So Katara, Sokka and Yue go out in the middle of battle to find Aang and Zuko. A blizzard happens. Katara starts to get worried about Aang and Zuko, because Zuko is evil and wants to capture Aang. If you really think this sounds like a bad episode, then just watch it. You won't be sorry at all. There is a Lunar Eclipse, and a cliff hanger ending to the next season. This episode is one of the episodes where Zuko starts his development into a deeper, better character. Everything is well until the end.
  • This is why I started watching the series. This episode had everything.

The firebenders continue to invade the northern water tribe. Despite Zuko's capture of Aang, Aang himself travelled in the mysterious spirit world trying to find the identity of the moon and the ocean spirit. While the water tribe is facing its destiny, Aang was also battle against his fare with Koh--the face stealer. Unfortunately, soon enough, Zhao found out the moon spirit and slayed it without hesitation. The whole world was in complete inbalance, while Aang entering the avatar state to defeat the fire nation invaders, and Yue tried to save the life of Moon spirit by sacrafising her own.

The most stirring moment came when Aang unleash his might avatar power against the fire nation, the spectacular view of the ocean monster shocked me. The revenge of the water tribe and the avatar was unforgivenable even considering the whole series.

This episode is the best season finale so far.

I think this episode is the best so far because it is a good mix of emotions and it has hige character development especially on Sokka.

From the moment it started with all the action and suspense it got me anxious for what's going to happen next. It was very unexpected that such a minor character could play a big role such as othe koi fish that Aang saw in the pond or Princess Yue. Little did we know that Yue would be the one to save the Water Tribe from their doom by sacrificing her life to the moon spirit which was actually one of the koi killed by Zhao, making Sokka feel guilty about not being to protect her and realizing he could be a better person. Zuko had a tremendous face-off with Zhao and soon after that he realizes he's starting to become a different person that he once was.

In the end the gaang triumphed everyone is well but there is still a little touch of sadness as some of the people they loved have moved on...

Aang arrives in the spirit world and asks a meditating humanoid baboon, Enma, for help. The spirit tells Aang to follow a nearby ball of light, annoyed with Aang for the disruption. The light leads Aang to Avatar Roku. Roku advises for him to see Koh, one of the oldest spirits in existence. He explains that Koh steals the faces of his victims if they show any emotion.

Back in the physical world, the Fire Nation is breaching through the defenses of the Water Tribe. Iroh advises that Zhao finish the attack before the full moon is up. Hahn makes a bold attempt at Zhao but is thrown overboard. Zhao explains to Iroh that when he was a lieutenant under the command of General Shu in the Earth Kingdom, he discovered a hidden library. After looking through nearly every scroll there, he found the identities of the ocean and moon spirits. He plans to kill the spirits to defeat the Water Tribe, despite Iroh's warnings not to challenge them. Meanwhile, Zuko is busy in a frozen wasteland, carrying Aang's body. Taking shelter in a cave, Zuko talks to Aang about his sister, Azula.

In the Spirit World, Aang reaches Koh's lair and comes face-to-face with the face stealer. Koh is angry that a previous incarnation of the Avatar tried to slay him because he stole the face of a woman he loved. Aang questions him about the identities of the moon and ocean spirits. Koh says Tui and La are the names of the spirits; they circle each other in eternal balance for all time. When he mentions Yin and Yan, Aang realizes that the koi fish are the spirits and quickly hides his expression before Koh could steal his face. As he leaves, the Face Stealer declares they will meet again. It is a race against time for Aang to get back and prevent Zhao from eliminating the spirits. He returns to the physical world with the help of a friend, Hei Bai (who hits Enma with a blast of energy). However, he discovers his body is missing and mysteriously becomes a beam of light which shoots over to it, noticed by his friends. Once he is back, Aang uses a gust of air to escape from Zuko by a few feet but didn't make it far. Just then, he is saved by the timely arrival of Katara, Sokka, and Princess Yue on Appa. Zuko and Katara have a rematch but due to the moon being out this time, Katara easily defeats him in a matter of seconds. Aang takes the unconscious Zuko with him, despite some disagreement from Sokka and Katara.

While returning to the oasis, Zhao has already captured the white koi fish. Immediately, the moon glows red, creating a lunar eclipse and color seeps from the world. Immediately, the fighting Waterbenders are rendered helpless. Yue tells the group that she owes the spirits her life for when she was just a baby, she was sick. Her father begged the spirits to save her. On a full moon, Yue's parents placed her in the oasis, where Tui, the moon spirit saved her life, turning her hair snow white as a side effect. Meanwhile, Zhao is making names for himself until Momo jumps on his head. After attempts to get the lemur off, Momo rejoins the group. However, Zhao threatens the white koi, even though Aang cautioned him that removing the moon will affect everybody. When Iroh threatens Zhao against harming the Spirit of the Moon, and Zhao appears to listen, returning the koi. However, Zhao suddenly throws fire at the koi, killing it. The moon vanishes altogether from the sky, leaving complete darkness in the world. Iroh retaliates as promised and Zhao slips away. Iroh and Katara attempt to revive the Moon Spirit, but it is too late. Aang suddenly enters the Avatar state and fuses with the Ocean Spirit, turning into a giant fish-like creature of water. In this state, Aang scours the entire Northern City and massacres the Fire Nation's invasion force, while leaving the citizens of the Water Tribe, who are bowed in worship, unharmed in a manner similar to the Passover. Next, Aang wades out into ocean and wipes out the remainder of the retreating ships.

Meanwhile, Prince Zuko chases down Zhao and his identity as the Blue Spirit (the renegade who released the Avatar from Zhao's imprisonment) is revealed. He and Admiral Zhao fight. Princess Yue, who at birth was saved from death by the moon spirit, sacrifices herself to give the white koi the piece of moon spirit that was inside her. She becomes the reincarnation of Tui, the Moon Spirit, and gives Sokka one final kiss as she fades away and restores the balance of spirits. The moon reappears and La, the Ocean Spirit, dissipates and leaves Aang on a cliff. While returning to the Oasis, La attacks Admiral Zhao and drags him into the sea. Zuko holds his hand out to pull him from harm, but Zhao instead chooses death.

After the battle, Pakku reveals to Katara his intention to head for the South Pole and help rebuild their sister tribe. He assigns Katara as Aang's new Waterbending master. Arnook reveals to Sokka that despite all his attempts, he had known his daughter's destiny from when the spirits gave her life. Zuko and Iroh slip away on a makeshift raft. In the last moments of Book One, the Fire Lord assigns Princess Azula, Zuko's younger sister a mission with the words, "Iroh is a traitor, and your brother Zuko is a failure...I have a task for you."

After that, aang returns to his own body, and escapes zuko. Zhao has killed the moon spirit, and yue must sacrifice herself to save the moon. then the ocean spirit kills zhao

Katara, Sokka, and Yue are flying on Appa through the North Pole searching for Aang. Katara is afraid that Zuko and Aang will die but Sokka reassures her.

Meanwhile, Aang is in the spirit world. He searches for the moon and ocean spirits. He asks a nearby monkey-like spirit where he can find the moon and ocean spirits. The monkey spirit just sends Aang on a wild goose chase to get rid of him. Fortunately for Aang, Roku's spirit finds him. After conversing with Roku's spirit, Aang finds out that the moon and ocean spirits are no longer in the spirit world. Roku tells Aang that only the spirit known as Koh knows where the moon and ocean spirits are. Roku also warns Aang that if he shows any emotion in front of the Koh, the Koh will steal his face.

Aang quickly goes to confront the Koh. Careful not to show any emotion, Aang asks where the moon and ocean spirits are. The Koh then reveals that a past avatar once came and tried to kill the Koh. Finally, Aang persuades the Koh to help Aang find the spirits. The Koh tells Aang that the moon and ocean spirits are mortal and someone will try to kill them. The Koh then turns around while he describes the moon and ocean spirits as Twi and La, push and pull, Ying and Yang. Aang suddenly shows emotion and says, "The Koi fish!"

Apparently, this is what the Koh was waiting for. However, Aang manages to get rid of his emotions in time and leaves.

Armed with this knowledge Aang leaves the spirit world with a little help from Roku. Aang arrives at the spirit oasis and realizes that his body is gone. Suddenly Aang is pulled to his body. Katara and the other on Appa see Aang's spirit and follow it. Zuko tried to carry Aang through the blizzard. When the ice broke underneath him, and he almost died Zuko looked for shelter and found a cave. Zuko explains to Aang how his sister Azula was a firebending prodigy and she was always lucky unlike Zuko. Zuko said that he never had luck and something was always holding him back like the blizzard that prevented him from escaping with the avatar. Zuko explains that Azula's always had it easy while he's always had to struggle and fight. But Zuko adds that it has made him who he is.

Aang's spirit returns to his body and Aang escapes. Zuko catches Aang but Katara and the others come on Appa and knock Zuko out. Sokka was all for leaving Zuko to die but Aang refused to do so and brought him along. They come back to the oasis to see Zhao holding the moon spirit fish. All the waterbenders loose their powers. Suddenly Iroh comes back (presumably from freeing Zuko) and tells Zhao not to kill the moon spirit or the Fire nation will be hurt, too. Zhao pretends to put the moon spirit back and puts everyone off guard. Then Zhao pull of a surprise attack and kills the moon spirit and runs away. Meanwhile, Iroh gets rid of all of Zhao's guards. Zhao continues to run back to the ships until he is stopped by Zuko. Zuko is angry that Zhao tried to have him killed. Zuko and Zhao start fighting.

Meanwhile, Aang sees the moon spirit dead and goes into the avatar state joined with the ocean spirit. He goes and destroys the Fire nation soldiers in the city and attacks the Fire navy fleet. Iroh recognizes that Yue has been touched by the moon spirit. When Yue was a baby she was frail and was going to die. Her father asked the moon spirit's help and the moon spirit gave her life. Yue decided to return that life. She transfers his spirit to the dead fish becoming the new moon spirit.

Zuko beats Zhao. Then Zhao sees the moon has returned and he has failed. The ocean spirit sees the moon's return and drops off Aang to get back and restore balance. On its way the ocean spirit attacks Zhao. Zuko tries to save Zhao's life (something Zhao would never have done) but the ocean spirit pulls Zhao out of Zuko's reach. The balance is restored. Iroh is reunited with his nephew Zuko. The Fire navy is beaten. Master Pakku and other waterbenders decided to go to the Southern Water Tribe to help restore it. Master Pakku tells Katara to train Aang in the ways of waterbending. Very good and exciting episode. Shows more about Zuko and that Iroh isn't really a bad guy. It also prepares for Zuko's possible redemption and shows that Zuko isn't really evil. It also introduces the "everything is connected" idea by saying that all the nations will be affected without the moon.

I love this show, and I love great battles, so this really blew my mind. Every movement of every character was a story of a thousand words. Wow! There wasn't anything about this episode that I didn't like!

The best part of this episode is the ending where aang merges with the spirit of the moon. He then takes out an entire fire navy fleet. It was entirely super bending that I was waiting to see the entire season. I enjoy plot twists of coarse but super bending is just wow. I I I I just just can't stop stuttering I just want to see it over and over. Yue becomeing the spirit of the moon also seems like too much of a forshadowing to what may happen in future events where all the spirits including her come to help Aang in his final battle.
  • Probably one of the best season finales. It rivals that of series finales. Yue's sacrifice was brave, but still not out of character.

This has got to be one of the best avatar episodes ever created. The creators outdid themselves, with this one. Not only was it fluid in animation, but also revealing into the character's traits, flaws, and goals. Without it being over the top, or forced like it was in 'The Beach' episode. Yue is probably one of the most emotionally powerful and dutiful characters that will probably ever appear in this season, doubly so for being such a short-lived character. This is a personal opinion, but much like having to marry for her country, she sacrificed herself for her people. The perfect princess. Aang's powers consume him, turning himself into a monster, destroying all opposing forces, regardless of their reasons for being their. This is probably his most frightening and uncontrolled fight in this series. This is exactly what makes this show not a normal, 'Children's show.'
