This was an incredibly heavy episode that did a lot of work on a lot of different levels. It introduced what Korra's immediate goal is: opening both portals to unite the water tribes, or just uniting the tribes - which will obviously turn out to be some sort of plot by the north. It focused very heavily on family, from the tacked-on ending of Korra's parents standing trial, to working with her uncle, to being the neutral party between the tribes (which are like big families), all the way up to Tenzin and his siblings. That last bit felt like filler story line (even though I know it's not) that only served to tarnish the viewer's memory of Aang. But I think it also served to remind us that people change and while he was great while we knew him, as an adult, he was capable of making mistakes as well. I actually found myself wanting more of that story than of Korra's because right now it feels so obvious where it's headed.
