You mean Torrlak, the task force ? Yes, it's been said, but, I think is trying to seize more power by having that little war. It could be a plot just like star wars with palpatine, but I think Torrlak is more on the good side, than Amon can be. They are played also by 2 differents voice actors.

I think Amon will turn out to be good or at least not as bad as he seems right now in the end. In contrast I believe Torrlak is destined for evil. That they hace different voice actors is not really an argument, as that would be a huge failure for Nickelodeon if their big mystery was solved because of the characters' actors.

Yes, I know for the voice acting, but having Torrlak being AMON is a possibilty. Just like they did with Zuko, having AMON turning good, but the twist could be Torrlak taking his place.

Wrong topic for this post, but yes, definitely yes. When she does it is however a very different question.

This very thought occurred to me about the taskforce being like the clones as they'll fight the threat, but eventually they will turn out to be the real power and take over. Not a bad plot direction, but anything is possible. Having a different voice actor can be a way to throw us off as the character could 'disguise' his voice to sound differently.

It would be a big twist worthy of M Night if Torrlak is Amon, but I think if he isn't, he'll be one of the sooner targets since he attacked a group of people for merely learning how to block chi. A perfect reason for Amon to go after him

Amon does not want to take out the major targets. At least not yet. He wants to build public opinion against the bender government, and nothing helps him more than an agressive Torrlak on the council. When Amon tells Korra he does not want to make her a matyr, he is serious and more dangerous for the bender community than if he killed her. This is politics, and Amon knows exactly what he is doing.

I am not saying that I agree with his methods, but as a pacifistic arms industry-critical socialist, I have a hard time not understanding him. If parts of the population was born with guns attached to their arms, and this part of the people was controling the civil government, the military, the police force and the organized crime, wouldn't I jump at the oppurtunity to remove this destructive power.
I don't. Sokka handled himself pretty well against fire nation soldiers. So did Jet and his band of lost kids. Point being is they didn't need bending (would have made their work easier) to fight or anything. And besides, not every leader in the avatar world is a bender. The Earth-King probably could only bend in his dreams but he ruled. Granted decadees later is the premise but I'm sure there is atleast someone that can't bend in charge of some city.

Anyone else notice how similar Amon & Mako's back stories are? Both had their parents taken from them by a firebender thug of some sort. also, how is it that a firebender & an earthbender can be brothers? I think that there is some sort of as of yet unmentioned connection between Amon & Mako

Yes, their stories are similar only in the fact that their parents were both cut down by a firebender.

ANd if a Firebender and an Earthbender love each other very much... (I don't have to continue)

AMON and Torrlak share the same political tools to fight agaisnt each other. If my theory is correct about Torrlak that he might be AMON, I don't know what would be his intention, why the north pole and why putting the watertribes at a domination position.

    My theory is rather simple.

There is only two real answers to "Who is Amon?"

A). Very easily, he is someone brand new we have no prior connection with.

B). He gave us a hint during the 3rd episode "The Revelation". Before he makes his revelation of what he can do to benders. He tells us a story from his childhood. About how his village was attacked by firebenders...leaving his face scarred among other things.

It is my opinion that the only character that Amon could be from A:TLA...is Lee from the Earth episode #7 "Zuko Alone". In where Lee is a small boy (younger than Aang was), and whose family and village as a whole was being bullied by a group of rougue soldiers. Zuko helps this boy and his family defend themselves. When it is revealed Zuko is a firebender, Lee and his family reject him outright. Lee is especially suspicious, as his demeanor towards Zuko changes drastically. It is clear he hates firebenders, physically telling Zuko he hates him...even after Zuko just saved his life.

Lee demonstartes every trait a villain could have as a young boy. Stealing anything he can get his hands on whether that is food...or broadswords. He isn't afraid to confront those older and more powerful than he. While friendly as a boy, his distrust of firebenders, especially the way he reacted to Zuko, could very easily be a life long trait, and eventual obsession.

We do not know what happens to Lee or his family after Zuko willingly leaves the Earth village. It is very possible, by foresaking Zuko's kindness, his village and his family could have come to harm from other firebenders...who were not as kind as Zuko.

I am convinced this young boy Lee who would be approximately 79-80 years old in the new series makes the most sense, if the character is from the original series. We do not know what Amon's face is like, nor how old he is. If age is a factor, and I still believe Lee could very well be 80 years old. It may also be possible that Amon could be Lee's son.

Or maybe it's Hope, the baby that was born after the serpent's pass. She realized there was no hope in the world, and swore to upend civilization.

haha, Nah, you have good points. I just can't imagine it being a 80 year old person. It's most likely someone new, because everyone from the old show would be either super old or dead. And by new I mean a character not in the original show (not including decedents of old characters.)

Bumi was over 110(?)...and still kick ass...even for a crazy old man. Now I get ya...though it just feels right to show what happened to that family after they made the decision to shun Zuko. Plus even if he is 80 years old. It's still within possible. Amon simply feels, though it is rather early in the series, like he has had a life long obsession against benders. Lee fits that bill to a tee. I doubt very much that when he reveals his face, Amon is nothing more than a young scarred man with ambition.

On one hand you can understand why Lee hated firebenders, but on the other you could easily see the blind hypocrisy behind his hatred. Plus it gives an automatic back story for Amon to grow from.

His older brother dies in the war...his family massacred...his face scarred. It almost works too well.

I've already given my ideas on how Amon might take away powers by being a waterbender, and now I think that my thoughts are validated with this new idea. I think Amon is actually Tarlok. He's a waterbender. Thus making my theory of him being a bloodbender even more likely. Him creating a task force against "Amon" just gives his alter ego more power with the masses and allows him to create an army with greater ease. Notice how he was resolute with trying to recruit Korra as well. He figured it would be his best rallying cry for the non-benders of the city and eventually the world. "The oppressive Avatar wishes to silence us with her powers!" The chi blockers with him could possibly be members of the task force he created as well. Loyal followers that work both in the light and the shadows create an even more effective army. Think about it.

This would also explain why he refused to take her powers away. He needs her around so he can use her to spread his hatred of benders. He's smart and has connections throughout the world, as well as plenty of money to accomplish his goals. All of the gear and such that amon gives to his followers doesn't just come from nowhere. All of the information that I've gathered so far leads to Tarlok being Amon. Finally, we know nothing of Tarlok's backstory. His parents very well may have been killed by a firebender extremest with them being waterbenders and all.

You make some good points, but everyone keeps saying blood bending and cutting off certain organs and whatnot. If Amon was a bender, dont you think you would see him, idk, bending? I really havent seen a bender bend without some sort of martial arts form. Yes, i know Aang could blow a lot of wind and Bumi could earthbend with his chin and Toph with a kick of her feet, but most benders, if not all, have some sort of motion that they go through. And we even saw this with Bloodbending. And in regards to not knowing Tarlok's past... we don't know the past of any of the characters really.

All of the information that I've gathered so far leads to Tarlok being Amon. Finally, we know nothing of Tarlok's backstory. His parents very well may have been killed by a firebender extremest with them being waterbenders and all.

This would also explain his lack of action when Korra was attacked, although that could have been an unfortunate mistake from his soldiers' part rather than neglect or treachery. I would have believed this theory, if Tarrlok was not so obviously evil/bad. Since he is portrayed as a bad influence on Korra, it would not be as surprising if he turned out to be Amon as if he was portrayed as a good guy. No viewer can trust Tarrlok, and the twist sort of falls with that.
