I love Avatar the last airbender. So when they came out with this Series I was so excited and I watched it till the end. But when I heard that they ended it so Korra and Asami can be together. I was so mad it completely ruined the show for me. Like why did they have to go and do something like that. Can't you just make a show that is good without it having something like that in it. I see that everywhere I go so I would have liked it to not have been in one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm still gonna watch Avatar the last airbender but I don't know if I would want to watch Korra like the original much better than the new one. And this has been bothering me for the longest time. And I haven't seen everyone upset about this. how can everyone be okay with this it is unbelievable that people can just accept stuff like this. Thank you for ruining this show for me.
The show is absolutely amazing it is on par with ATLA the story , animation , and characters are all great. The only reason I can think of about why people don't like it is that they are stuck in the past.
One of the best shows on television. Too many people on here are comparing it to ATLA. It's not ATLA and it was never meant to be. This show is darker and geared towards older audiences. It's visually stunning and the storyline is incredible.
This Is a great series. a strong heroine not that the original wasn't chalk full of those, a really engaging story, amazing and innovative villains for avatar at least given the original's villain was nothing but a watered down frieza with some fire powers, some kids and on a muck smaller scale and all i wanted to do was murder the jackass from my tv screen, A LIKABLE PROTAGONIST FOR ONCE, and it developed the original characters. sure it's no dragonball z but then again it is rather unfair ok it's beyond unfair to compare ANY action oriented animated series to that action masterpiece or ANY of the dragonball franchise or most battle anime for that matter. overall though, i really like this series a lot more than it's terrible predecessor.
kudos to the producers of the last airbender... i must say, it seems like a different set of people produced the legend of korra. i understand that the producers wanted to make the ''bad guys' a bit tougher, and in doing so, the main character became too weak... the problem started when korra'"s bending was taken away, it became worse when her connection to her past lives was broken. she became even lesser than the other benders. i would have thought that the son of the last airbender, Tenzin, would have done better in fighting alongside korra. he also was very weak. asanmi did a better job than korra even though she had no bending. true, korra was hot headed and wild, that should not have stopped her from being the avatar that she was. the parts that really got me pissed were those in which she was in the avatar state and yet she was practically useless - for instance- againstvaatu, the red lotus and cuvira. some characters were not meant to be projected in the way they were - for instance Julie and Bathar jnr. for those that were with aang during his time, i expected more from them- for instance Zuko, Katara and Sakko was briefly shown. only Toph did a little in season 4. i dont know how cuvira was able to beat Su. i also expected to see a bit of blood bending because it is very powerful. just thinking about these numerous errors gets me pissed.
Firstly I'm going to say Avatar: The Last Airbender is my favourite animated show and when I heard about the sequel series I was sure it wasn't going to top it. It doesn't but man this show is awesome. Firstly with the characters this show clearly decided to focus on Korra rather than the world (as opposed to Avatar). The transformation that Korra undergoes from the first episode to the finale is due to real character development. We see initially she goes from a brash teenager with no outside contact to the real world to a mature young women who fully mastered the physical and spiritual elements of being the Avatar. While this makes Korra's character development overall more of a change than Aang's this means that the supporting cast isn't as fully developed as in Avatar. However it doesn't mean the cast is bad. Immediately fans will debate upon which of the cast is their favorite (from Lin Beifong to Bolin to Varrik).
The story is divided up into four parts that while are self contained stories they do connected to one another (particularly Book 3 and 4). It was nice to see a more mature version of the Avatar universe one that has evolved with new technology yet some of the same problems are inherent in the universe. I'm glad Bryke didn't play safe and instead when in a new direction which might alienate fans who just wanted Avatar all over again (which is wrong I think) and instead went for something fresh that had much more mature themes (fascism, anarchy, equality .
Another positive is that all the villains in the show are not your typical bad guys (except Book 2 which I'll get to in my negatives). The villains all have fully rounded out motivations for their actions and we as the audience can relate to why they did what they did even if we don't agree with their methods.
Now to my negatives which are that some of the plots in the Books were resolved too neatly (which is why the Book 3 ending was the best as it still left us viewers with consequences which lead in Book 4) and I'd say the first half of Book 2 is by far the weakest part of the show. Some of the characters felt annoying and felt some of the sub-plots were rushed and not resolved satisfyingly. I'd say this though and be forgiving at Bryke due to the disruption of Nickelodeon (ordering three new books just after they completed Book 1, taking it off air . So while there are negatives there the majority are due to the mishandling of the show from Nickelodeon.
So final thoughts and if you're looking for a sequel show that just features the cast of Avatar you'll be dissappointed. However if you're looking for a more mature show and a new side of the Avatar universe this show will be more than enough for you.
Book 1: 9.5/10
Book 2: 8/10
Book 4: 9.5/10
Thoughts of the ending:
Without giving too much a way I will say rewatching Book 3 and 4 the signs were there for that ending. I understand it wasn't as explicit but I admire the subtlety that was handled and it was an evolution throughout those books that when the ending happened I got to the point where I could say "Ok it makes sense". Considering also this is an animation show maybe we expected it to be more explicit and we're surprised that an animation show could handle such subtlety. I could talk at length about the ending but one more thing I'll say is that I hope the show isn't remembered just about the ending because this show was so much more better and thematically more than that. If one thing this show reminded me is that there is always hope and a way and that I hope that someday we'll get another Avatar show from Bryke :)
Base on what ive search... the legend of korra is too manly, fightin scenes were so scary(for kids), and some teenage problems, and its like.. the movie is not really for kids.... but some of people says the last episode is bad for those religious.... in my opinion.. kids define it is a very strong friendship... not a just what youve thinking... and i wish.. there should be a nickelodeon for teens... so others can watch... because some of people are enjoying to legend of korra.. because its educational(theres science, history connection, wisdoms).... and please... youve watch atla as a child so youve enjoyed so far... well now the lok series is boring for adults if they not understand what it means
I honestly didn't enjoy watching TLOK as much as I enjoyed watching ATLA. I had more laughs and realizations with ATLA than with TLOK. ATLA, for me, had more depth. This sequel, at it's heart, deals more with the struggle of maintaining balance within one's self and within the community. Korra very much displayed this struggle for balance with her teenage-always-on-PMS angst. Yes, I understand that every teenager goes through the "rebellious" phase (I had mine too!), but it's just so tiring and so energy-draining to witness this angst every single time. The sequel however had good action scenes - not as epic as the fighting scenes in ATLA but still good.
Overall the show ranged from *sigh* and 'meh' to 'okay' but the last season was particularly not good.
I found the lack of meaningful character development and the teen soap elements extremely taxing.
As for the surprise ending:
It's like having a black Superman -the right actor, the right script and it could be awesome but if it's an okay actor and a shitty script -it simply becomes a travesty where race was a primary driving factor.
Had they played out Korra's and Asami's lesbianism subtly and tentatively from the beginning and then have it naturally progress -it would have been pretty cool but instead it is just slapped on in the last season to make a futile point.
It is like stringing a bunch of Van Goghs together and spray painting an anti child porn message on them. The people against child porn are still against child porn, the people involved with child porn are not going stop because some randoms defiled some master pieces of art.
"I'm not going to discriminate based on sexual orientation because Avatar Korra was a lesbo" -said no one ever.
So in the end TLOK people have not changed the minds of bigots and done nothing but ruin the art/entertainment media that I was trying to enjoy. . .Thanks guys -I'm sure the first homosexual president will give a shoutout to 'Legend of Korra' in his/her inaugural dress.
I really liked the idea in Avatar the last airbender on how they had one bad guy for the whole series and had a build up to the final big fight between Aang and Ozai, but was bummed when there four bad guys in the Legend of Korra, which kind of made them rush the whole series. Then it was even worse when they moved the last seasons into the internet. But other then those two things, the show was amazing.
The only thing about this series that really gets to me and disappoints me is that there was no story/mention of Sokka's possible descendants. And, also, the horrible "Anime" season pacing. I would have liked that they would have introduced Sokkas's kid or grandkid as maybe some member of the White Lotus and maybe pop up at the end of season 4 like Bumi did in season 1.
first off why would they cut the budget and the ending what the heck is that i mean she didn't evolve as a character at all also i have no problem with them getting together but i feel like the ending was just slapped together just for shock value thats it if theres something there why wasn't there sings first off she should have been the one to help korra deal with her inner demons or show her support but i guess half assing the ending its the way nowadays
Maybe Nickelodeon doesn't remember that this show airs outside USA, or England & Europe. I believe some country in Europe doesn't like the ending too. SPECIALLY religious country, do you even think about that? now I have to tell my sister that the show canceled at final. I am not ***phobic, but kids don't have to know this stuff until teen (or older maybe). What's next? spongebob with patrick too? I seriously hate this show, I would give this show 7.8 without the ending, but because the ending I have to give it 1.0, -10 If I could.
btw 10/10 for The last airbender (the TV show, not the movie)
Sure, the ending where korrasami are together is fine but I almost feel like the creators ended it that way just so that we talk about that instead of how fragmented the entire show was. korra jumps around too much between books, months later, years later. Main characters that were developed earlier all of a sudden became insignificant (Mako). The worst part was Korra herself. I couldn't stand her. Always brash, always selfish. she is pretty much an entitled little bitch. she says plenty of stuff in the end like "I learned" but it just sounds like empty words.
The whole series was great until the last episode usually with all good shows boy meets girl they fall in love and live happily ever after. Keep in mind this is a kids show the last episode ended with the main character turning out to be gay this is something we should not be teaching to kids no wonder the series got cancelled and thrown off the air. If this was up to me I would ban this episode or make them do a remake of some last episode ruined the whole series for me.
The series was great and feel atleast at same level as ANK was in previous series.
I must say for next one they should choose some past avatar to tell his story and one specific for me in mind is if u remember what the old guy on the tropic island said to Korra when he took the picture from her.
Anyway back to spookyfreaks rewiew yea totaly the lovely ending man (Yuri Manga of the finest)
As we finali aproch era where the Homosexuality is not taken as ilnes, but as a choice that is maide for us be birth, its great that its added as normal thing in world where two people love each other souls.

I am a great fan of the show whole show from Avatar: Last air bender till Legend of show has a way of captivating people's attention and heart as well. My mum, who doesn't really appreciate animated shows enjoys it sooo much that she just drops everything once i start playing the show. Legend of korra has had always kept me at the edge of my seat and most often than not restlessly waiting for the next episode. At first I was, as so many others, was frustrated with korra's character at first rushing to the action before thinking it through and yes she had many shortcomings to her character, but I had a great time going through all those episodes and seeing how she very much matured and more responsible. Yet, somehow i do agree with the others the ending scene with asami and korra got me going It's not like the scene itself was totally weird, i mean i have a lot of close friends that are girls that i hold hands with or go on crazy adventures with just the two of us and of course I care deeply for each of them as well, in fact I LOVE THEM. We were always there for each other during hard times, they hold my hands and comfort me when I am feeling down and vice versa. Heck, I even shower together with them, but hey you don't see me kissing them, or starting a romantic relationship with in fact, It's more like a BOND with them, I would say it's a really deep and grounded feeling but totally not that of a romantic one, but sometimes, more often than not confused with that of a romantic feeling by most viewers. I am TOTALLY FINE with the ending scene, yet somehow people are shouting KORROSAMI, don't know I go that right and it being cannon and everything, I mean watching all the relationships going on with the show, I don't really think that's what they were going for , as forbes mentioned the show depicted that it's not true love that really matters but true friendship which I can't agree even more. I'm not going against korrosami shippers opinion, we all have our own individuality and our own interpretation for things, but for now all i see are two best friends or rather two very good friends. Korra, who is still growing up and getting better at being an avatar, asami, who I think is also a very independent woman, is patching herself up and growing as well and for the record korra DID NOT, i repeat DID NOT blush when asami complimented her on her looks when they first met after three read it somewhere forgot where, but lets say it was just someone gushing about that scenceand hhow she was blushing, looked it in and I am like 'okkkaayyy, there is no i think the creators are very obvious when they do show someone blushing with all the pink in the cheek and blushing there, unless there's something wrong with my computer. Anyways, to end it actually my own opinion of the last scene unless otherwise one the creators would come out and say it themselves that there is actually something romantic going on with them, then i'll shut up and move on with my life.
Even with cutbacks from the ***ed Nickelodeon, including budget slashes, terrible advertising, and moving the show online, The Legend of Korra made a great successor to Avatar: The Last Airbender. With 4 books, 52 episodes, and a crapload of emotions, Legend of Korra may be the greatest animated show of our generation
I still don't understand how a series this short can be that good. There is nothing bad I can say right away (maybe due to the length of the series). Best anime series ever. One of the very few good. perfect? Add 2 more season and then we'll talk.
2014 update: It's not an anime, for starters, sorry about that. I love how the series has explored social and economic ideals so elegantly. However, season 4 sucks. It's boring, repetitive, makes no sense, and seems just like filler. It surely won't end with fans asking for more, I'll tell you that. However, season 1-3 are almost as good as the Last Airbender's series.
