AWA All-Star Wrestling

Show Summary

AWA (American Wrestling Association) is a wrestling promotion based in Minnesota, which was owned by wrestling great Verne Gagne. The promotion is now owned by Dale Gagne. The first ever recognized A.W.A World Heavyweight Champion was the late Pat O'Connor in 1960 when the A.W.A branched off from the wrestling promotion N.W.A (National Wrestling Alliance.) The early 1990s the promotion ended, but did return in 1996 as the AWA All Stars. All Star Wrestling was an event that showcased wrestling matches, kind of like todays WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown. The show was announced by Gene Okerlund. Many great legends wrestled on the show, such as Verne Gagne, Bobby The Brain Hennan, Nick Bockwinkel, Adrian Adonis, Dick The Bruiser, Rugged Ronnie Garvin, Tully Blanchard, Jim Brunzell, Nature Boy Ric Flair, Stan The Lariat Hansen, Curt Hennig, Larry The Axe Hennig, Blackjack Lanza, Jerry The King Lawler, Rick Martel, Sherri Martel, Diamond Dallas Page, Leaping Lanny Poffo, Baron Von Raschke, Sgt. Slaughter, Crippler Ray Stevens, Mad Dog Vachon, Kerry Von Erich, King Kong Bundy, just to name a few. It was also the promotion/show that helped start many wrestlers careers as they proceeded to the WWE (then WWF) Hulk Hogan, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels, Marty Jannetty, Jake "The Snake Roberts, Scott Hall (Razor Ramon), King Kong Bundy, and tag teams like "Midnight Rockers" (The Rockers) "The Road Warriors" (Legion Of Doom) just to name a few.moreless

  • AWA Wrestling: A True American Tradition

AWA All Star Wrestling was a great show that included a lot of wrestling legends in the AWA wrestling promotion. The AWA formed some of the greatest tag teams like the Road Warriors and The Midnight Rockers. I truly enjoyed watching this show.

AWA (American Wrestling Association) promoter Verne Gagne started the AWA in 1960 and for the next 30 something years helped train and shape many wrestlers for the future. AWA formed such wrestlers as Hulk Hogan who would go on to change the WWE to what it is today (global marketing company), and even cropped a Governor in Jesse "The Body" Ventura.

All Star Wrestling was a great show that was hosted by Gene Okerlund.moreless
