      • Yukari: You guys are finally examinees this year...You all have a lot of stress, right? But, working members of society have a lot more stress, so don't complain...Don't pretend to be a tragic victim of modern day education.
Osaka: I heard Yukari-chan got a hangnail or something.
        Chiyo: Who knows...
Yukari: If you don't like to study, why bother going to college?
Tomo: So, that means you went to college because you wanted to study?
        Yukari: Ha! Hell no.

      • Osaka: I wonder if maybe she (Miss Yukari)'s got some deep psychological scar?
Chiyo: Isn't she always like this though?

      • Kagura: Chiyo-Chan's studying abroad! Amazing!
        Tomo: Amazing!
        Chiyo: No ... really ...
        Tomo: Mm. She's gonna die.
        Chiyo: Ahh!
Osaka: Mm. You know, 'cause your family's rich and you're so tiny. (she suddenly grabs Chiyo by the pigtails) And you're easy to catch!

      • Kimura: Now for this part. Uh... Uh... You, Kaorin!
Kaori: Could you please not call me that?
Kimura: But that's what everyone calls you!
Kaori: Then why am I the only one in class being called by a nickname?
Kimura: Uh... Okay, from now on you may call me Kimurin. How's that?
        Kaori: That's not my point!

    • NOTES (2)

      • Tomo gets a haircut in this episode, while entering her last year in high school. See Allusions for more details on her haircut.

      • In the original Japanese version, Ms. Yukari and Kimura sing the Happy Birthday song in English. In the English dub from ADV, they sing a different tune with modified lyrics.

    • ALLUSIONS (4)

      • Ayumi Hamasaki
Tomo asks Chiyo if she could be like Ayu, referring to the Japanese pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki.

      • Tomo: Haircut
In Japan, when a girl or boy usually cuts their hair, it means that they ether had their heart broken, or had been dumped by their boy/girlfriend. Chiyo wonders about this when she sees Tomo with her haircut, and asks Yomi about it. Yomi laughs because she thinks it's impossible for Tomo to have a boyfriend.

      • Tomo: Up 'till last year, I had my hair long to be sexy and to be like Fujiko
This is a reference to Fujiko Mine from the famous Lupin the 3rd (Lupin III) Anime series. Tomo even says "Lupin" how Fujiko is known to say it.

      • Tomo: Chiyo for President!
        Chiyo: It's not possible!
According to the U.S. Constitution, to be eligible for President of the United States, a person must be:
        1. 35 years or older
        2. A natural born citizen of the U.S.
        3. A resident of the U.S. for 14 years.

Chiyo doesn't qualify for any of them, and when she's 35 and if she has been living there for 14 years, she still wouldn't qualify for number two.
