Charlene convinces her sisters and her boyfriend to join a health club. After hearing two women make fun of their size, Charlene wants to quit but is too humiliated to tell Marlene, Darlene, and Ronnie why she doesn't want to go back.
Charlene dreads meeting Ronnie's mom. After much convincing, Charlene goes to meet her at a restaurant and manages to insult her before they are even introduced. Determined to make things right, Charlene invites Ronnie's mother over for dinner, only to find that nothing will satisfy her.
When Charlene's interference gets Marlene fired as the Hefty Hose girl, she finds a job on a soap opera. Meanwhile, Darlene dog-sits a seemingly-sweet puppy who turns out to be more than she can handle.
When no one in their apartment building can get the slumlord to make needed repairs, the sisters convince the other tenants to go along with a rent strike. Later, they learn that the title to the building has been transferred to them...making them the slumlords.
Charlene, Marlene and Darlene decide to make a difference in the life of a homeless man. After cleaning him up and working with him, he finds a job. The sisters begin to wonder if they have created a monster when he begins exploiting others.
When a buyer for a department store places an order for Charlene's unique designs, the sisters decide to become fashion designers. They soon realize that starting a business is not as easy as it seems.
Darlene is required to perform community service at a child-care facility. Being a confirmed child-hater, she surprises everyone when she becomes so attached to the children, she considers having one of her own.
