A Voice in the Wilderness (1) was a really superb episode of Babylon 5. I really enjoyed watching this episode because the characters were engaging, there was some action, and plenty of drama. I thought this episode had a very interesting story, and I enjoyed meeting new characters like Draal. I think this 1st half of a 2 part episode was great, and I certainly look forward to the revelations of the 2nd half of this story line. I thought that the ending of this episode was intriguing and I can't wait to find out more. I look forward to watching more of Babylon 5!!!!!!!moreless
  • Start of a great mystery

When planet below B5 starts to show some inner planet activity and ship going to investigate it, is shot and some signal is sent from the surface, it comes more and more clear that the planet is not so dead as thought. To add some more tension, things on Mars are not good. The independence movement has been growing and now there are fights and old and dear friend of Garibaldi might be injured or dead. And he cannot be easy.

So, back to the planet thing, Susan and Sinclair will take a little trip to the planet to find out what is there - and what the discover.. it is amazing...moreless
  • The planet below is not as dead as was thought...

    8.3
    "Great"
This is the first part of two-parter and marks a nice change of pace as series one builds to a climax. For once the story doesn't have to be totally wrapped up in the 43 minutes, allowing for a measured and thoughtful build up to an action-packed second part.

The planet which Babylon5 orbits shows signs of seismic activity, and a survey team are then fired upon. Sinclair and Ivanova team up to investigate (leaving Garibaldi in charge, which seems a bit strange...but anyway...) Whilst on the planet they find signs of a previous civilization in the form of huge, working machines. They also find a living creature who had been appearing as a ghostly apparition of Babylon5 and mumbling 'help me'

Meanwhile, Delenn is visited by an old mentor called Draal, and Garibaldi tries to get news of an old flame after revolt breaks out on Mars. This is the first signs of Mars uprising and the 'Free Mars' movement that comes to play a big part in later seasons.

Well written and enjoyable, building nicely to part 2moreless
  • A science team find signs of life on the planet below Babylon 5 and fighting breaks out on Mars.

    "Great"
When strange signals start coming from Epsilon 3, the plant below Babylon 5, a science team is sent to investigate. However they soon discover the planet has an automated defence system and barely escape, Sinclair and Ivanova decide to go down and investigate what's on the planet but first they must find a way past the planet's defences. While this is going fighting breaks out on Mars and Garibaldi tries to get in contact with the women he left there when he came to Babylon 5.

Another good episode as we finally find out about the planet that Babylon 5 orbits and we also learn a bit more about the Mars conflict. This episode reveals more about Garibaldi's past and this will come to play a major part much later on in the show. This is the first of a two-part episode and really is just setting the scene as the majority of the action happens in the second part.moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    ADD TRIVIA
    • It would be extremely unwise if not even forbidden for the commanding officer and his second-in command to undertake a possibly hazardous mission that could lead to both their deaths. If one of them wanted to go the other should have stayed on the station.

    • Dr. Tasaki can not seem to make up his mind whether to use miles or kilometers.

    • On their descent into the planet, Ivanova is calling out depth readings. However, the screen in front of her shows a constant depth and a much slower velocity than she is giving.

  • QUOTES (4)

    ADD QUOTES
    • Londo: She had a voice that could curdle fresh milk.

    • Londo: Now, I go to spread happiness to the rest of the station. It is a terrible responsibility but I have learned to live with it.

    • Ivanova: Commander, I think I have to go to the bathroom. Sinclair: Tell me about it.

    • Survey 1: Returning to base Ivanova: Confirmed Survey 1. Upon arrival you WILL report for debriefing ... And just one more thing. On your trip back I'd like you to take the time to learn the Babylon 5 mantra. "Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God." And if this ever happens again, Ivanova will PERSONALLY RIP YOUR LUNGS OUT! Babylon Control out. [gives crew a look] Civilians. [looks up] Just kidding about that God part. No offense.
