Rumors, Bargains and Lies was a perfect episode of Babylon 5 because it blended all the elements that make the show great. This episode was one of the better ones in this seasaon. I enjoyed the begining where Sheridan appeared to be laughing at something the chair said, causing the others to raise an eyebrow. I thought his idea was genious though. It was funny how the Drazi was running around like crazy, and gathering the others and spreading fear of an unknown adversary. I thought it was funny how it all worked out. Meanwhile Delenn went to Minbar to see if she could work out peace between the casts who have begun to engage in civil war. I look forward to the next episode!!!!!!!moreless

i have always liked neroon of the warrior caste, i enjoyed watching him and delenn together.in the episode of rumours, bargains and lies, the ruthless drakh were the dark servants of the vanquished shadows, and without their former master have restorted to piracy, using their superior technology to devastating effects.captain sherdian hatches a plan that will not onlu secure alliance space from this threat but also rope in the uncommitted races.fear is the key.meanwhile the sitution on minbar worsens as the civil war between the warrior and religous castes takes its toll.to avert further slaughter, delenn meets nerron to discuss peace, but at what price?.moreless
  • Great episode.. Loved minabris..

    9.2
I totally love that episode.. One of the best of some times but even better ones to come, I believe.

The storyline with minbari civil war was stunning. The thought itself.. that minabris are fighting each other and that one of them lie.. to save others honour but still.. And the way Lennier interlining.. Saving them all and saying what he said the way he said it.. and things she said about Delenn or what Delenn said about him when they did not know if he will survive. Stunning moments there.

And also the whole Babylon 5 storyline was amazing. Sheridan and his genial strategy how to get everyone doing what is needed.. and those people doing those random things.. Loved that.moreless
  • Goofy Sheridan

    8.5
Sheridan was acting like a bit of a loon this episode, which was a nice change of pace from SeriousSheridan. Hearing Ivanova yelp when he thumped the table was hilarious. I had to watch that a couple times. And although the heavier stuff in the episode was Minbari-based, it wasn't too bad. Still not a huge fan of the Minbari culture. Not quite sure why. I know I have a hard time relating to characters whose whole personality is based on religion, so I don't ever click with Delenn and Lennier. And I have a hard time reconciling the radically different castes and how the society works. I dig the Rangers though. Anyhoo, it's kinda cute to see how loyal Lennier is to Delenn. And I was really liking Neroon until he snuck off the ship at the end. Grr.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Continuity: In the opening scene a piece of food appears on Marcus's fork. The camera then shifts to Sheridan and then back to Marcus who hasn't picked up the food yet.

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Delenn: Lennier, this is the second time I have seen you near death. You're starting to acquire bad habits.

    • Brakiri Ambassador: Invisible enemies. Strange thing happening in Sector 83. They could be anywhere. They could be all around us

    • Lennier: If I had told her the whole truth, it would've destroyed her belief in the strength and the wisdom of our caste. Delenn does not walk in the same world you and I walk in. She does not see the same world you and I see. In her world we are better than we are, we care more than we care. We act towards each other with compassion. I much prefer her world to that of my own, and I will not allow anything to threaten that.

    • Neroon: I assumed your behavior was prompted by a sense of your own superiority, your ego, .. the usual fanaticism we have come to expect from the religious caste. In the last year, I've begun to realize that I was wrong. Dukhat chose you above all to follow him. Slowly, dimly, I begin to understand why. I do not know what lays ahead of us, Delenn, but I do know it is right that we are here together.
Delenn: Is that a compliment, Neroon?
      Neroon: After a fashion.

    • Delenn: I have been training him, as Dukhat trained me. He has been .. a light for my footsteps. Never asking, only giving. Without him, I would stumble and fall and never get up again. Thank you for looking after him, Neroon.

    • Delenn: Incredible. Only the warrior caste could actually turn on one of their own. They have always been erratic. And you... you are the steady rock beneath my feet. Thank you.

    • Ivanova: First, one brief announcement. I just wanted to mention for those who have asked that absolutely nothing whatsoever happened today in sector 83/9/12. I repeat, nothing happened. Please remain calm.

    • Sheridan: Make a big deal out of it .. as much as you can, given nothing happened.

    • Sheridan: I don't really think it's my place to comment.
      Amb: Captain!
Sheridan: All I can say is we certainly wouldn't be there if we weren't wanted.
Amb: Then they asked for the ships?
      Sheridan: I can't confirm that.
Amb: But you're not denying it either.
Sheridan: But not denying it doesn't make it true any more than not confirming it makes it false. Are you with me so far?
      Amb: I'm .. not sure.
Sheridan: Ambassador, there are so many things in the universe that are and so many things that aren't. If I were to take the time to deny all the things that aren't, we'd be here for centuries, wouldn't we?

    • Neroon: But we are two against a world gone mad. What can we do against that?
Delenn: Nothing. Until we get their attention. For that I need your help.

    • Delenn: Yes, we've disagreed, even fought, but I would rather have someone who opposed me out of an honest belief in the rightness of his cause than someone who was always on my side because it was expected and required. I've questioned your judgement and wisdom, your temperament, but never your loyalty.
      Neroon: Was that a compliment?
      Delenn: After a fashion.
      Neroon: Then you trust me?
      Delenn: After a fashion.

    • Delenn: I need your help, Neroon.
Neroon: My help? I remind you that not very long ago I fought to keep you from taking control of the Rangers. We have not exactly been friends.
Delenn: No, but your actions have always been motivated by one desire: to do what is right for our people. The warrior caste can not be allowed to win this war. The religious caste can not be allowed to win. You know as well as I that if either side achieves dominance, the delicate balance of our civilisation will be destroyed.
Neroon: You should have thought of that before you broke the Grey Council.
Delenn: What is done is done, Neroon. What matters now is the future.

    • Delenn: I think of my beautiful city in flames, Lennier. The streets where I walked, the temples, the great crystal spires .. that sighed music whenever the wind touched them. I think of it, and I cry, Lennier. And I wonder: did I do this when I broke the Grey Council?
Lennier: Valen always said the Council will be broken in the Great Shadow War.
Delenn: Lennier, you know the truth as well as I do. Valen only knew what Sinclair knew, could not see beyond that. Once he left us, the future became fluid. I had assumed things would continue on, like some great clockwork mechanism. As long as the war was won, we would be all right. I was wrong.

    • Delenn: When I was a child, my father used to carry me through the city on his shoulders. I've never seen such beauty. The city was eternal, its beauty eternal. We heard of the Grey Council, but the name was always spoken with awe and reverence. They held our world together. They were the peace promised by Valen; thousand years of peace among the three castes.

    • Sheridan: I am tired of doing things the hard way. There's an easier way to convince them.
Marcus: And how do we do that?
Sheridan: By not convincing them. Ha-ha!

    • Ivanova: Yeah, I know. Every time you try to get them do something for their own good, they figure you've got some sort of a hidden agenda.
