Bananaman

Show Summary

"This is 29 Acacia Road, and this is Eric the schoolboy who leads an amazing double life. For when Eric eats a banana, an amazing transformation occurs..." Eric is the banana-munching schoolboy-turned-hero Bananaman in this 1980's BBC comedy. Every episode was roughly five minutes long and premiered on a Monday, although for the rest of season 1 it was changed for every 3 days. Following the premiere season new episodes were stopped for almost a year, whereupon they returned in the Thursday slot. After another 12-month absence it returned for a final season in early 1986, now on Tuesdays. Comedians Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie and Tim Brooke Taylor, known as "The Goodies" provided silly voices. Bananaman's not-so-super-villains included Appleman, General Blight, Dr Gloom, Zorg (King of the Nerks), The Nerks themselves, The Heavy Mob, Weatherman, Captain Cream, and the knitting needle wielding wonder Auntie, and to boot there was Bananaman's associate Chief O'Reilly and love interest newsreader Fiona! After the show was discontinued the episodes were repeated on the BBC's children strand 'CBBC' in 1998. The last known broadcasts were in 2000, and it is unknown whether or not the episodes will be repeated again.moreless

  • An un popular show which should be getting far more attention that it gets. In most hero shows the hero is already a hero. Where as Eric sometimes goes through quite a bit of trouble to get his bananas. But with Crow by his side, the adventures are super!moreless

Bananaman is not very popular over the world but really he should be. In my opinion he's the most classy hero around and the most interesting. He's not just T.V star he plays a huge part in The Dandy every week and before being in The Dandy he appeared in The Nutty Comic. He has to eat a Eric has to eat a banana to turn in to him, but it's not as easy as it sounds! In one, he ate a moldy cheap banana and turned in to a slow old Bananaman. He also couldn't find a banana so he was stuck! If he runs out of the banana energy he straight away is back to his bad self. With enemies like, Appleman, Witchy Woman, General Blight, Doctor Gloom, Bubblegum Bert and The Mole. But he has his trusty sidecik, The Crow by his side. The Crow can also be a character to attract attention. In one, he had a wonderful voice and was on a stage singing in front of many people, but something went wrong and his voice went back to it's bad self. And he lost his careere and was literally kiced out! A great show which should certainly be back for everyone to watch!moreless
  • Very silly, but very very funny.

    9.7
Bananaman is probably one of the best UK nostalgia shows of all time. The jokes are predictable and old, yes, but that's what makes them so funny! The episodes are short but they achieve the required level of plain silliness, with Bananaman's various foes (especially Auntie) being some of the best cartoon villains of all time.

There are very few gripes I can make about this (sadly short-lived) series, but there is something that I always thought was weird in the episodes, and surprisingly is probably my biggest concern: How come Bananaman can breathe in space?

And when that's the thing I dislike most, overall it's a great show.moreless

He calls him after coming home with her. He tells him that she dont want to talk to her about things and she has not even been to the hospital for a check after loosing the baby. Beth wants to tell him about her secret but she decide not to even if she knows it would have helped him in this situation. he is stressed about it all because she dont like her secret. Seb tries to support her as usual and he is telling her she is not the one doing something wrong but her is. It is not he fault that she keeps on with her lies.moreless
