A Banshee Community
Cinemax (ended 2016)

Cinemax has itself a keeper in the TV.com favorite Banshee. The network that was once a destination for late-night solo viewing parties has renewed Banshee for a third season as it continues its lurch into the original programming game. Season 3 is pegged for a 2015 debut.

Currently in its second season, Banshee follows an ex-con named Lucas Hood who takes on the identity of a sheriff in the small town of Banshee. There, he goes up against Amish mobsters, Native American tribesmen, and anyone else his fists can pound in the face. There's also sex! (Read Cory's review of the most recent episode, Season 2's third, right here.)

With Strike Back set to end its five-season run later this year, Banshee will assume the title of Cinemax's longest-running original series that isn't part of its softcore porn erotica collection. That would belong to the appropriately titled Lingerie

I loved it! When is it coming back ? Does anyone have an answer????? I pay way too much to cable not to know…...

But why renew it? It has no ratings and Cinemax isn't even promoting it so it's in no danger of getting ratings.

Mediocrity rules on cable, just as it rules on the networks.

We are truly in a Dark Age of scripted television.

"A Dark Age of scripted television?" Are you known for being exceptionally melodramatic, or are do you just have HORRIBLE taste in quality? Breaking Bad, The Wire, Justified, The Shield, Mad Men, The West Wing, Six Feet Under, Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, The Sopranos, etc. etc. That covers some of the most well-written, well-acted shows ever made for television and every single one of them have premiered in the last 15 years. That is the very definition of a GOLDEN AGE for TV dramas, and we will be lucky to see a run this good ever again. Or maybe you're just one of those prudish PTC nitwits who thinks everything on TV should be rated G. If not, then please explain how this is a dark age for scripted TV

So the main characters name is NOT Lucas Hood. The name of the Sheriff who's identity he steals is Lucas Hood. I don't think they ever mention his real name in the show, unlike Carrie Hopewell who previous name was Anastasia.

That's all part of the mystery. It's also hinted at that he's ex-covert mission guy. Deep deep undercover. Makes you wonder..hmmmmm

Awesome and fantastic news...and great to have it so early on into season 2. This will help to rightfully increase anticipation even more, for one of the most original and fun shows on tv right now; right down to the visceral action and original characterisation and many other great aspects. I just love the pacing of this show as it's non stop and all of the characters in this screwed up little town are always in trouble and all the better for it. Long may it continue!

I'm so glad when networks tell us the fate of a show before the season finale. It makes the show so much more enjoyable because we don't have to worry. I love Banshee and i'm so glad there at least will be another season.

Fantastic news. It is truly a great show and is unbelievably watchable. And for an action oriented series it is very well acted. It is quickly climbing the charts to hang with some of my favorite shows like Justified and Person of Interest.

and it's only in season 2. POI took a while to become spectacular. Justified was always spectacular;-) Banshee was an instant hit for me early in season 1.

BEST RENEWAL NEWS I'LL SEE ALL YEAR!! Why not let someone who watches it and wouldn't just put .. 'Banshee' follows an ex-con named Lucas Hood' (the most inaccurate description of this show I've ever seen) to describe the series deliver this awesome news?

As if there was any question about it.

oh and em, SAY IT WITH ME NOW: BANSHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Best Drama currently airing on all of television.

Don't let people who have no idea what Cinemax, HBO's baby brother, is actually about these days (or who have editorial agendas that are extremely dated) steer you away.

I completely agree and it's right up there with Breaking Bad, The Wire, 24 (shut up haters...lol) with my favorite shows.
BANSHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Still not a fan then Tim?. Banshee is quite simply the best show on TV, not just for the sex and fight scenes but for having great characters all the way through the cast, super-fast paced plots and non-stop entertainment.
Delighted that it has been renewed, Cinemax you have much wisdom.

Reducing Banshee to nude content is like reducing Christianity to alcoholism.

Its what writers with biased agendas reduce it to. Some of the better ones around have caught on though and are actually enthusiastically covering it.

Agreed with both of you

Tim took his own advice ("should I watch") and that's fine....his loss;-)

The nudity in Banshee doesn't come off as gratuitous...not that I have an issue with gratuitous nudity (I do watch Strike Back....lol). The tight yet complicated plots, brilliant acting, awesome fight choreography, gritty setting, diverse cultures portrayed, etc all work together to create a top show imo. The sexual content is relevant and just one small part of the show. Maybe a couple scenes in an episode...there is so much more to Banshee then nudity/sex...

"Banshee follows an ex-con named Lucas Hood"

Nope.

he's "should I watch" article implied he wasn't going to watch it...maybe Cory should of written this article.

we will never learn his name! I don't want to know it.

Hehe.

He has no name, does he? Carrie was Anastasia but him?

If that is true, I hope they stick to it and never tell us.

Co-creator Jonathan Tropper said if we ever learned his real name, then that would end the show.

I'm hoping we learn it in the series finale. In, like, season 7.

Good news, but not unexpected. This show is so much better than anything else I've seen on Cinemax that I would have been very surprised if it had been cancelled.

I prefer Strike Back, but I think Banshee is an excellent show as well. Glad to hear it will be back for another season, especially since SB is going to end.

Now, here's to hoping Cinemax keeps it up with these awesome, gritty shows.
