  • Brilliant Psychological Horror

What can I say about this show other than it's amazing. The sense of foreboding that it produces is just intense. I love it when you FEEL dread. Great writing, and of course all star performances by everyone in the cast. Vera Farmiga is brilliant, and she sells psychologically damaged like no one else I've seen on TV.

    Spoilers below: You've been warned.

Okay. We all know that Norman killed Blair Watson. Consensual sex, then murder her because he can only have one woman in his life, and that's Mother. We saw in Watson's house when she was undressing that Norman talks with a mental projection of Norma and she convinces him to kill her.

While in the box, Norman comes to the realization that he in fact, killed Ms. Watson. He's all set to confess to it during the polygraph. But, another mental projection of Norma appears and she confesses to Norman, that it wasn't him, but Norma that killed Ms. Watson, and he needs to understand that she did it, not him.

Such a great glimpse into his character as to what's to become the pivotal concept in Norman Bates: a deranged man who kills dressed as his mother, who in fact, believes that it is his mother still killing people. He cannot separate the acts, his mind is that broken and twisted.

i highly recommend this episode as it sets up for what is sure to be a great season 3.

By the way on a side note: I absolutely love shortened episode runs, much like British TV shows and now what US cable dramas have become. Seasons of only 10 or 12 episodes. No filler or throw aways, just plot advancement and character development. Less time invested and a greater reward.
