Catwoman disrupts a beauty show but her real goal is the dress of Queen Bess of Bulgravia. Eartha Kitt is a rather convincing, suave Catwoman, although Julie Newmar is the beauty. She kidnaps Batgirl and puts her on a table heading for a saw. The plan: steal the dress at the Bulgravian embassy at the same time Batgirl meets the saw, leaving Batman to choose between the two. Batman tells Alfred goes undercover (as the oldest hippie in the world, no less) to save Batgirl while Batman and Robin go to the embassy to thwart Catwoman and prevent an international incident.moreless

    • (Alfred, disguised as a janitor, rescues Batgirl from being sawn to bits) Batgirl: Thank you, whoever you are. Alfred Pennyworth: Think nothing of it, sweetheart. As a matter of fact, it was selfish of me. Batgirl: Selfish? Alfred Pennyworth: Yes. I'm the janitor here. If that machine has sliced you to bits, I would have had to clean up the mess!

    • (About Catwoman) Batman: Ah-ah. Give credit where credit is due, Robin. She may be evil but she is attractive. You'll know more about that in a couple of years.

    • Batman: Nobody wants war. Robin: Gee, Batman. Belgravia's such a small country. We'd beat them in a few hours. Batman: Yes and then we'd have to support them for years.

    • Batgirl: And you, Catwoman, are an even bigger fool than even I thought you were. We, who enforce the law, would gladly give our lives for it. Catwoman: Gag her. Heroines are to be seen, not heard.

    • (To Barbara regarding Batgirl) Batman: You better leave the crime fighting to men.

  • NOTES (5)

    ADD NOTES
    • In 1968, Eartha Kitt made several negative comments about the Vietnam War reportedly causing first lady Lady Bird Johnson to start crying. The subsequent negative publicity from the incident caused Miss Kitt to leave the country for several years.

    • Footage of The Dynamic Duo crossing the street and racing through bustling crowds in Gotham City (filmed in downtown Los Angeles) is edited from the 1966 Batman movie.

    • Envisioning Catwoman as black was unique to the television series, an experiment that hasn't been repeated.

    • Designer Rudi Gernreich later went on to design the wardrobe for the 1975-78 syndicated sci-fi show Space: 1999.

    • The first appearance of Eartha Kitt as Catwoman #3! She replaced Julie Newmar who at the time was filming her role of Hesh-Ke for the Columbia Picture Mackenna's Gold (which also featured Bat-guest villains Burgess Meredith and Eli Wallach).

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    ADD ALLUSIONS
    • Title: An allusion to the term "dressed to kill" which dates back to medieval times when before combat a squire dressed his knight in armour making said knight literally "dressed to kill."
