When I first saw the series one of the things on my mind were, what happened to the old vilians, where were they and what are they doing now. It was great to see Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze once more and this episode is very much about him. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze I always felt was a sympahtic villain because he was a person afflicted with great loss and unfortunately in the future it doesn't get any easier for him. In a way this is a story about someone that is not just looking for redemption but trying to find his place in the modern era. As he explores more of the era, you really do feel a sense of pathos for him. One of the sad moments was when he visited the grave of his wife, it's always sad knowing a tie from your past is gone forever which can make one feel lost.

I really liked some of the back and forth between Batman and him, it also showed that Terry is not as narrow minded in ethical beliefs as Bruce/Batman which has been both a strength and weakness of Batman. And Terry is right after all Victor really isn't evil just guilty of doing certain bad things is all, and when Victor was human he was a good guy that wanted to give things to the world, finally in the future he has that chance.

And from what happens to him and the fact the female Doctor and the company he trusted double crossed him for their own selfish and evil gains. He begins to see that there really is no place for him in the modern world, we see him give to the world in the only way he can which is to do bad by trying to destroy that company that brings only misery to the world. It was both interesting and sad at the same time seeing him go the direction he was going. The ending was heartsinking, there wasn't really any victory in the end only one great casulty. Victor Fries in the end was a good man, his heart was never made of ice but was as human and warm as anyone else.moreless
  • Easily my favorite episode from the series.

This episode was awesome. It is about as perfect as any episode can be. This episode was all about Mr. Freeze, one of the coolest villains ever. We also got to see a new villain, Blight. Mr. Freeze is such a great character that I can get emotionally involved with and that is just what happened in this episode. I felt bad for Mr. Freeze. It was so cool to see the new Batman face off against one of Bruce Wayne's old foes. Having Blight and Mr. Freeze go at it was really nice and Blight also had a great fight with Terry. Check this episode out if you haven't already. It is a must see for true Batman fans.moreless
  • basically continuing Mr. Freeze's story.

Wow!! What can i say about this one? On the surface it looks like it was some loosly drawn together plot to bring in one of the original Batman villians. But if u look closer, u'll see that this touches on the idea that not all of Batman's rogues were/are "inherently evil". I believe Freeze would have gone straight and atoned willingly had the process not failed. But as far as Wayne's stance on it, I can certainly understand why he would be him. There is your 1st bit of real friction between Terry and Bruce since the series opener and it was handled well. I think Blight/Powers was slightly out of character but as i've recently found out from another animated series(the new "The Batman") being mutated like that does something to unhinge u mentally too. ne way, i of my favorite episodes of the whole series.moreless

One of the greatest episodes of the series. It really captured the essence of Victor. The pun were priceless. Remember there might be some momentary discomfort is one of the greatest quotes ever.. and done right before he kills Dr. Lake. I recommend any fan of the series view this episode

I have always like the character of mr freeze, even when arnie had a go, so when i saw this episode im sure it was going to be a good one. Basically Powers needs a new body, so he experiments and brings mr freeze back to life- well, hes already alive he just needed a body. The episode that follows is brilliant.we see an even more emotional mr freeze, bringing the charater to life. Things mess up and freeze then reforms to his old self and starts to chill things up. This is a great episode as it shows us that not all villans ar bad 24-7 and that they are humanmoreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Trivia: Apparently, Gotham City either uses the Celsius temperature system or some other unknown system. Dr Lake mentions the heat wave just reached 70, in Fahrenheit that is quite normal but in Celsius it is very hot.

    • Powers suggests that a biopsy be done on Fries's organs, but a biopsy is a sample taken from live tissue. Dr. Lake (being a doctor) should have known there was no need to kill Fries to perform the procedure. If the patient was dead, that would be an autopsy.

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Victor: Take a good look, Doctor. I've been like this for nearly fifty years, and I haven't aged one day. I have become what many men have dreamed of: an immortal. And yet, there hasn't been a day, an hour, a minute, I haven't thought about death. It obsesses me. Even now.

    • (while testing water for radiation)
Batman: Do you hear that? You could poach an egg in this water.

    • (in the park, while Powers is glowing with radiation)
Doctor #1: We used an infra-red scan to find you (Mr. Powers).
Doctor #2: Not that you would have been hard to spot without it.

    • (offering blankets)
Doctor #2: We also brought these, in case you were cold.
      Powers: You are idiots.

    • Mr. Freeze: (to Batman) You had your chance.
Blight: (grabs Freeze) So did you. Yeah, you feel it, don't you? Right through your suit! The heat is on, Victor.

    • Dr. Lake: (about Victor) Security's checked every meat locker, deep freezer and cryogenic plant in town. No sign of him.
Dr. 1#: We never should have started this.
Dr. Lake: Sometimes you find the wrong answers before you find the right ones. That's what science is all about. Anyway if he's still hiding in Gotham, he's fried.
Derek: What makes you so sure.
Dr. Lake: We are having a heat wave, Mr. Powers. Today, it hit 70.

    • Key Negotiator: Mr. Powers, it's been a long night. My clients would like to go back to their hotel and rest a little and think about your offer.
Derek: Ladies and gentlemen, the buyout offer is on the table. Leave this room, I will withdraw it. (His phone rings) Powers?
Batman: Amazing, the numbers people put on their speed dial. Just wanted to let you know tonight's boat ride has been cancelled. Though your goons are still going up the river. Wish you could join them.
(Derek gets angry and starts to turn into Blight)
Derek: (To the Key Negotiator) My friends, perhaps you were right. It is an ungodly hour, we will continue this dicussion tomorrow when we are refreshed.

    • Powers: Freeze? How...
Mr. Freeze: It's something I've kept in cold storage.

    • Batman: Even if he ran away like you heard, doesn't mean he's gonna come back.
Bruce: He'll be back. Count on it. He lives for revenge.
Batman: Not the Victor Fries I met.
Bruce: What you met was a ghost.

    • Mr. Freeze: Remember, there might be some...momentary discomfort.

    • (talking about Freeze)
Terry: Like my mom says, he's just a guy trying to put his house in order.
Bruce: It's a cold draft that blows through that house.

    • Blight: Batman.
Batman: And who are you, Sunshine.
      Blight: Blight would do.
      (attacks Batman)
Bruce: Terry, there's something hot in that room.
Batman: (struggling with Blight) No kidding!

    • Blight: And behold, I shall be a blight upon the land, and everything I touch shall wither and die!

    • Batman: Who is this guy, he's like a walking meltdown!
Bruce: Keep your distance. The suit will give you some protection. But it's not designed for such high levels of radiation!

    • Blight: You only got a tan that time, Batman. Here comes the real burn!
Mr. Freeze: Blight! (shoots Blight out of the building, then to Batman) Stay where you are.
Batman: We got to get out of here, Freeze. The whole place is going to go.
Mr. Freeze: Believe me, you're the only one who cares.
Bruce: Terry! Get out of there now!
(Freeze creates a barrier to keep Batman safe but it locks himself from escape)
      Batman: Freeze! No!

    • Mr. Freeze: There's enough energy here to destroy the whole compound, Batman. I suggest you find a way out.
Batman: Fries, think! This can't be what you want. You will only cause more pain, more suffering.
Mr. Freeze: No, I end it. And if this goes, I go too.

  • NOTES (5)

    • The appearance of Victor Fries was originally going to be a brief comedic scene where Bruce sends Terry to the fridge to get him something to drink, and he opens it to find Victor's head staring back at him. The producers decided that joke didn't do the character justice and wrote this story.

    • Michael Ansara reprises his role as Mr. Freeze.

    • Concludes the Mr. Freeze storyline that began in "Heart of Ice" and was continued in "Deep Freeze," Subzero, and "Cold Comfort."

    • This marks the first apperance of one of the original Batman villains.

    • Batman uses the speed dial on the dumper's phone to contact Powers. This mirrors a similar scene in Batman: TAS, where Robin used the same tactic ("Robin's Reckoning").
