Batman Gotham Knights

My biggest complant for this episode is the actress who plays Baby-Doll (Lorraine Newman). Although she does a pretty decent job she doesn't feel right for the role. The voice she uses for Baby-Doll and for Mary Dahl here are both too played up to the point of obsurdity. And the way she delivered several lines felt very off (i.e. "Why don't they understand? I'm not a child, not a baby!")



My second complaint is aimed at the way the Baby-Doll - Killer Croc relationship is shown. We really only got to see a small taste of it. What I saw, however, I liked. Especially on Baby-Doll's part. With a character like Baby, who never ages, there are endless issues that could be addressed in multiple episodes. Here they address her loneliness because of her apparent age. When she sees Croc as a parallel to her situation she is instantly attracted.

The relationship, for what we saw of it, was well done. Croc was shown to have SOME feelings for Doll but in the end didn't care enough to stick around. And that's OK. I just thought that they were pretty cute together in a messed up way) and that they way Croc was so willing to drop Baby to her death was an injustice to the relationship.



Other than those two issues I have nothing but good words for this episode.

It's a shame they never touched about Baby and Croc (or even just Baby Solo) again after this episode.

I can't help but feel a surge of pity for the Mary Dahl character. She only wanted to have a normal life. Fate handed her a disease that wouldn't allow her to age. This lead to inabilitity to be taken serious as an actress. In the episode Baby Doll from Batman:TAS she was bent on revenage for the loss of her tv fame.



This time Mary Dahl seemed so sad and lonely. She gets in involved with Killer Croc. Anything to stop being alone. As I watched this episode I thought how many would think being youthful looking might be a blessing. But for Mary Dahl its a curse. In one scene Batgirl wonders what Killer Croc and Baby Doll do together. Batman comments that he doesn't want to know. Cause for Mary Dahl most men see her as a child and hence untouchable. In this episode we can see that Mary Dahl isn't a just a split personality but a Manic depressive as well. When she's herself she very melancholy and depressed. However when the Baby Dahl persona takes over she become joyful, very happy yet vindictive. She takes her rage out on Croc when she relizes he doesn't love her. This along with its companion episode Baby Doll are among my favorites.

One of the things I found quite interesting about this episode is the way "Baby Doll" portrays herself. In this episode, she is first seen at work. She is adamant about not being a baby or a child. At her first real meeting with Killer Croc, she presents herself as an adult. However, once she "rescues" him and begins to live out her fantasy, she reverts to her Baby Doll persona.



Although she seems to lead a life of crime for the sole reason of pleasing the new guy in her life, it is obvious that her "Baby Doll" personality does not please him. Still, keep it she does. Maybe she didn't mean to.



Baby Doll's "relationship" with Killer Croc is both interesting and humorous. One good psychopath deserves another. After all, all anyone ever wants is to be loved, right?
