Batman: The Animated Series

Baby-Doll is one of those villains that is hard to take seriously. She's not a physical threat and its hard to believe that she would ever be seen as an authority figure in a group of criminals. However, her mental state, being the sole captivating aspect of her, is the hook that keeps you watching this episode. "Baby-Doll" once again gives a showing of Batman's cleverness (he draws a crowd of kids and teeneagers towards him when Baby-Doll tries to blend in with the rest of the children) and also gives a peak into the humane side of Batman, especially towards the end, and its the ending that really makes this one worth viewing. It truly is one of the best finales in the series.

Another great episode. Baby Doll was a dramatic funny character who added something enw to the table. They drifted away from all of the original Rogues Gallery from one episode and introduced someone new. Baby Doll. Her origin seemed great. I'd never heard of a disease that would stop you from aging but whether that is too far fetched or not I don't care. This episode had a perfect ending. One of the best. Baby seeing herself in the funky mirror was so sad. Baby Doll is one of my favorite villains. I havn't yet seen the episode with her in Gotham Knights and hope too soon.

This episode is very sad. Mary Dahl isn't truly evil like a lot of Batman's villians. She very much misunderstood. She had an acting career that she loved. She felt she was capable of so much more. Yet due to the disease systemic hypoplasia. She was trapped in the body of a six year old. No one would take her acting serious. She fell into a deep depression and eventually insanity. She then started to believe that her show was real and that her tv family had abandonned her. She kidnapped them all back to a replica of the set from the show "That's our baby" However Batman and Robin come to save the other actors.



This episode has one of the most eloquent monologues as Baby Doll reverts to Mary Dahl when confronted by her own image in a funhouse mirror. Mary sees herself as a fully grown 20 year old woman. She then reveals the inner pain and anguish she feels in her adult voice. Screaming "Why couldn't you let me make believe!" She then starts shooting her gun not at Batman but at the mirror images that mock her with the body she will never have. and in a grief stricken voice she say her famous catchphase from her tv show. "I didn't mean to..." and sobbing into Batman's arms.



This episode is has a very humorous side and yet so full of deep emotions. Batman understands that Dahl isn't to blame for her actions. And seeks to help her. I can't find a single flaw with this episode. Its perfect.
