  • A pretty average episode that had potential but didn't use it properly at certain points.

    I feel that this episode had the potential to be one of the greater episodes of the series but it wasn't used properly. I don't think we're given enough reason as to why Jordon would run away from his father. I also think that there isn't enough chemistry between the two. Sometimes the dialog isn't utilized properly between characters in the episode aswell (especially in Jordon's case). On the bright side, Joker was great in this episode. I feel it showed how sinister the Joker can really be. All in all I feel that this was an average episode deserving of a low 7 rating.moreless

    This is one of the weaker episodes, not because there wasn't enough fist-a-cuffs or anything like that, it's because some of the characters, namely the Joker were out of character. Now I know the DCAU Joker cant be as dirty and ruthless as they've shown in the comics over the years, palling around with a little kid, even if it means just to move the show along isnt exactly the best idea they've had. One of the funniest things about the show that I hear alot of ppl complain (or did complain once upon a time) about the show was the humor and how Batman would utter one-liners from time to time and this episode had a few examples. I think any episode with Mark Hamill's Joker in it is a must-see but even he couldn't put this episode to excellent status, but as I've written before I dont think this show ever had a truly awful episode in my opinion but check back with me after I've seen a few more episodes again to refresh my memory and we'll see.moreless

    For a Joker episode, 'Be a Clown' is not bad at all. It captures the Joker's insanity well and gives him a distinct feel of menace, while having a few funny jokes that will either make you chuckle...or cringe.

    The Joker's portrayel in this episode will be liked by most, but others will not like the way he is constantly in a very obvious disguise and makes various one-liners that will make people see him as more of a clown and less of a phycho. He is not nearly as bad as in 'The Last Laugh'. In fact he is rather good. But very particular fans will not like him. I personally see the crazy side of him in this, hiding alone in an abandoned theme park with various freaky things lying around, and luring an innocent kid into a life of crime to help him murder Batman. He also tries to blow up the Mayor's house simply because he was compared to Batman on TV by Mayor Hill. Some, however, will not see the evillness behind the clown act and comedic jokes.

    I personally think that this is a very good, underrated Batman episode, that may not be quite as good as others like 'Heart of Ice', 'Mad as a Hatter' or 'Two-Face', and it may not be amongst the top Joker episodes like 'Christmas with the Joker', 'Joker's Favour' or 'The Laughing Fish' etc., but this is definately worth a watch or two. 4/5.moreless

    Very decent episode. I guess people have different opinions on it but for my money it was entertaining. I liked the way they poked fun at the Mayor and showed how inept of a father he was caring more about the image of himself rather than his own son.

    It's true that this episode has flaws but overall it accomplished what it set out to do. Jordan dresses up as Jecko the clown after being insulted from what they Mayor said about him. It's also noteworthy to point out that in his tv speech the Mayor criticizes both Batman and Joker and Batman (inadvertenly) saves him and then Jordan in the end. The Joker really never intended to make Jordan his apprentice he clearly is annoyed when he sees the kid in his hideout.

    Overall it's a fun episode.moreless
