  • Weak premise leads to fun but unlikely story

    6.0
Two reasons this episode fell flat. First, narrative interest concerns Jordan, the mayor's son, a character with whom young viewers, supposedly, are to identify. His features resemble the Joker's, so when he becomes enamored with the Joker (as Jekko the Clown) I expected him to don Joker facepaint at some point. That didnt happen. Jordan is not a spoiled kid; his father is insensitive to his needs, so his distrust of Batman and admiration of a childlike misfit like the Joker makes sense. The problem is that story potential lies with the mayor, who is too busy with his public image and courting the media to address his sons cries for attention. Batman, who grew up without a father, shoukd havebplenty to say to a neglectful dad, but that doesnt happen in this episode.

Second, the Joker's reason for attacking the mayor doesnt work. He is angered when the mayor says that he and Batman are "cut from the same This Joker condemns the comparison, whereas the true Joker would either agree with this statement or have no qualms about it.

Otherwise, several scenes in the closed carnival are fun to watch: the water torture cell, the roller coaster, the Joker hurling exploding baby dolls. The Joker has several funny lines, too, like calling Batman "the Caped

All in all, the premise doesnt work, rendering the entire story unnecessary. The real story is with the mayor.moreless
  • Little Brat

    7.0
The Mayors son feel lone and left out and ignored. He become interested and enamoured with the Joker and the Joker play it up so he can get close to the Mayor in order to remove him from office permanently. It's an OK episode most of the time it just falls flat on the audience because at times there is no real motivation for the kid to actually "like" being around the Joker. It is just missing a layer of development that the other episodes have.moreless
  • A pretty average episode that had potential but didn't use it properly at certain points.

    7.4
I feel that this episode had the potential to be one of the greater episodes of the series but it wasn't used properly. I don't think we're given enough reason as to why Jordon would run away from his father. I also think that there isn't enough chemistry between the two. Sometimes the dialog isn't utilized properly between characters in the episode aswell (especially in Jordon's case). On the bright side, Joker was great in this episode. I feel it showed how sinister the Joker can really be. All in all I feel that this was an average episode deserving of a low 7 rating.moreless

  • The mayor throws a party for his son and Joker decides to crash

    7.1
This is one of the weaker episodes, not because there wasn't enough fist-a-cuffs or anything like that, it's because some of the characters, namely the Joker were out of character. Now I know the DCAU Joker cant be as dirty and ruthless as they've shown in the comics over the years, palling around with a little kid, even if it means just to move the show along isnt exactly the best idea they've had. One of the funniest things about the show that I hear alot of ppl complain (or did complain once upon a time) about the show was the humor and how Batman would utter one-liners from time to time and this episode had a few examples. I think any episode with Mark Hamill's Joker in it is a must-see but even he couldn't put this episode to excellent status, but as I've written before I dont think this show ever had a truly awful episode in my opinion but check back with me after I've seen a few more episodes again to refresh my memory and we'll see.moreless
