It has been a long while since I've watched this series, but I'm glad I've finally managed to get my hands on some of the DVDS because this is top-notch entertainment.

The title sequence had the hairs on my neck standing tall, it just brought back so many fond memories of this show to me. This episode does not disappoint in the slightest. It kicks off with an energetic chase sequence between two of DC's most iconic characters and never lets up after that.

So much is packed within these 25 minutes and this is only the first part. The juxtaposition between Batman and Catwoman's relationship and Bruce's and Sylene's is dealt with extremely well, with plenty of chemistry thrown into the mix, it's interesting to note how shy Bruce seems to be when he's not masquerading around Gotham in his suit.

The animation immediately jumps off of the screen - the fight scenes are fluid, Gotham is captured with a menacing quality and the overall tone is far from the habitual playfulness of previous animated shows.

With sparkling dialogue and instantly likable characters, this opening episode delivers in spades. The music is superb and the voice acting is flawless. Conroy's Batman sounds so young in comparison to, lets say, his Batman in JLU, but that's to be expected. He's simply getting to the role we know he eventually masters and embodies the voice of Batman. Terrific stuff!

in this ep of batman the animated series batman comes across a new burgler and there is also word on a new terrist group in gotham called red claw. and there is burgler who is also catwomen at night and goes to the company to get info on the company that wantes to destroy the wild life of the cats. and batman realizes its her and he must go and stop red claw on top of saving catwomen who could be introuble. this was a really good interducition of catwomen and it was a really good interesting ep of batman the animeted series i like it.
  • Not too strong for an opener

This episode involves the introduction of Catwoman (and Red Claw). I felt that Red Claw was not a good choice for a character for a first episode. (she doesn't end up getting used again). The storyline and interactions between Catwoman and Batman (and Bruce Wayne for that matter) is much more compelling. If they had eliminated the two parter and gone with an opener involving Catwoman only I would have been much more pleased. Red Claw as a character is simply not strong enough for a two part episode...especially considering there weren't too many of them in the entire series.
  • Good episodes but should have been just one part

Note:This is a review for Cat and the Claw part 1 and 2

While the attraction between Batman and Catwoman and the attraction between Bruce and Selina was good the Red Claw terrorist plot was not needed and belonged in a seperate episode. This episode could have easily been a one parter with Batman chasing Catwoman around then Bruce meets Selina at the auction, Batman and Catwoman flirt some more, Bruce and Selina go on their date, Bruce finds out that Selina is Catwoman. He comes to her place as Batman right as she's about to leave as Catwoman. And arrest her. And the Red claw plot with Catwoman returning and teaming up with Batman could have been a seperate episode.
  • The Cat and the Claw, part 1, is an average episode, for this series, but still great.

True this may not be the best batman TAS episode in the world, but its' a good episode. It aired as the first episode, but is actually farther in than that, by production order so I can't really say its a letdown episode for a pilot, but it isn't exactly the best introduction for Catwoman. It is one of two, two part storylines that I feel could have been better as one part, because with all the time it has, it doesnt exactly give a good opening characterization for Catwoman's character, or for her relationship with Batman. I also believe that far too much time was spent on Red Claw. She was a much better villain in Lion and the Unicorn, but is just added randomly in here as a generic villain in order to have batman face two female enemies' in one story. It would have been better if she was wrote out.

Besides that, the romance that the creators do get in within this first episode is good, considering animation rarely has rleationships like that. All in all, this episode is pretty good, and better than the second part.

Not exactly the best episode or the worst but a decent episode at that. Catwoman's costume never appealed to me in Batman TAS but her personality sure did. She wasn't going to take any crap from anyone. Especially people trying to harm lions. I was a bit disappointed with the relationship between Bruce and Selina. One drive together and Bruce feels like his heart breaks when he takes her to jail. All they did was discuss what they were going to do later (alone) in code (so as not to reveal each of their identities). At least the relationship grew in later episodes though.
  • This episode is pretty tight cuz

Great episode. Catwoman out and about robbing places for jewels at night and trying to save the precious mountain lions during the day. Wow, shes quite the busy lady if I do say so myself. I think this episode introduced Catwoman really well and I found it quite amusing after she had run into Batman a short while later she bought Bruce for a date to support those lions. There is so much plot in this episode what with Redclaw being around and a strip mall thats going to destroy the mountain lions habitat. Love this episode and I cant wait to watch the second part to it.

(reviewers note: technically this episode premiered as a "movie" in primetime on a Sunday night before the actual run of the series began)

It is a well-crafted and well-written episode because it shined the light on Batman as a detective rather than a "super-hero". It didnt throw him headlong into a fight directly with a costumed villian/villianess right away (although Catwoman's appearance and role in the episode was much appreciated ;) ) so it seemed nice and original without veering too far away from the source material. The voice work went far in establishing for most of us the definitive vision(s) of most of the main characters associated with this and other series of the DCAU. Not much wrong you can say about the start of one of the most excellent animated series ever made.......
  • Any episode with Cat woman rocks.

I just love how this episode is so cat woman heavy. It has her cat Isis as a thief who is just so smart. I love how cat woman is so daring to jump off a huge building, with her loved pet and not blink. THis episode has the typical chase and fight scenes with cat womans claws. I loved how batman saved the cat and he freaks out in his arms. Cat woman then blows him a kiss for the save, soooo cute. Then, later on, at an auction, Selena Kyle buys Bruce for a date. Yet, as always, bad guys are around and Bruce disappears. Batman goes in and does his thing. Later on cat woman breaks into a building endangering animals and learns a terrible secret. Bruce and selena try to go on a date and it gets ruined. This episode is a two parter.
  • Highpoint in the series

By this point the series was really starting to find its voice. It shows with this great introduction to Catwoman, her visual and voice is great and her part was helped by the sideplot about Redclaw. On that note, it was a clever idea that this epidode had by constantly making you think that Redclaw is going to be a man until the reveal at the end of the episode were we see she is in fact, a woman. Another great bit , for me was to see that Bruce was acctualy nearvous when first speaking to Selina. This was an exellent build up to the second part.

  • A solid piece of work here as Catwoman is introduced and Batman tries to track down a terrorist organization.

Usually, with only twenty minutes to tell a story, there hasn't been a lot of opportunity to do character development. With the few two-part episodes in the series, we're given a really good look at the villain in question. While there's not much development with the Catwoman character, this episode does a fantastic job of setting up the backstory for a great struggle between the three main characters: Batman, Catwoman, and the villainous Red Claw. We get to see Selina Kyle and Catwoman for the first time, and while this episode did a great job of showing the relationship between Kyle and Wayne versus Catwoman and Batman, it's a shame that the series as a whole didn't carry this storyline forward. This episode has some terrific dialogue in it, and the voice acting is - as always - right on target.
