It can't be easy to up the ante each week in a style of skating so utterly foreign to them, and to convey emotions most hockey fans never even assumed these guys owned! Not only are they doing it, they appear to be taking it very seriously and are determined to do right by the charities they represent.
Jamie Sale and Chris Simpson amaze me. The unison that is so much a part of the beauty of Jamie's and David Pelletier's pairs skating, is pretty evident in Simpson's presentations too, and he really does do "figure skating" as opposed to two-footing it. Their Austin Powers number was the evening highlight.
Shae Lynn Bourne and Claude Lemieux also delight and Lemieux showed some edges he never had to execute in hockey. They did total justice to the keynote song in Dirty Dancing and I believe the final skate-off will be (SHOULD BE) between these two pairs.
I do love Dubreuil and Richer as well though I think they will be skating with Tie Domi and "Tuffy" Hough-Sweeney tomorrow night. Unfortunately for Domi and "Tuffy" I think their skate and their program content was the weakest, and if were up to me they would be bowing out tomorrow night.
Next year, I think the lady figure skaters should have to lace on hockey skates and return the favour of coming to respect the alternate but no less difficult and impressive style of skating found in hockey!moreless
