I mean, you can't even compare the two styles of skating required for hockey and figure skating, never mind the equipment differences and the intended results of each sport, but I have been seriously impressed by the way the hockey players have stepped up to the toe picks and made impressive head way with the science of it all.

More impressive however, is the headway into the art of it, and tonight I was most impressed by Claude Lemeiux (paired with Shae-Lyn Bourne) and Stephane Richer (paired with Marie-France Dubrieul). Particularly Lemieux, who, lets face it in the world of hockey, is the team's resident goon. Well, the goon bit is an act, because he showed a real flare and a "feel" for the figure skating. And I was really pleased to see the ice dancers (Bourne and Dubrieul) have the strongest performances because often the art in dance takes a back seat in popularity to the big lifts and throws of pairs skating. Not tonight!

I think that's what makes me come back to this show, because this kind of reality show is SOOOO not my usual viewing taste! But the causes for which they skate, the fact that the guys take it seriously and the fact that each week they have made serious strides with the intangibles involved in figure skating...well, it just makes me happy to watch.

Interesting though, the two skaters who started out the strongest (Tie Domi and Ron Duguay) tonight gave the weakest performances. Ron Duguay and Barb Underhill SHOULD be the ones to go home I think...

Having said that, none of the hockey players is hiding behind the figure skating pros...they've all brought their best to the event and everybody, especially the charities, wins in this particular "reality show"!moreless
