The plot of this episode has been vastly changed from the original Gatchaman, to the point where the episode doesn't really make any sense. The original Gatchaman episode is a pivotal episode and a decisive victory in Gatchaman's (G-Force) effort to destroy Galactor (Spectra).
-
The Mech in this episode is quite clearly not a praying mantis. It actually more closely resembles a shrimp.
-
In the original Gatchaman, the Captain is actually Ryu(Tiny)'s father and the little boy is Ryu's brother.
-
In the original Gatchaman, the stolen brains are those of scientists, and there is no 'evil' brain.
-
Mark says he doesn't drink, which seems rather odd as the beverage he was given was served in a coffee cup.
-
In the original Gatchaman, the pilot was a member of Galactor (Spectra) who Galactor intentionally shot down and presumed had been killed. The pilot had amnesia and didn't recall he was a member of Galactor.
-
The character referred to as the president of the galactic federation in this episode of Battle of the Planets, is known as chief Anderson in the original Gatchaman.
-
In this episode, the team spends some time at a cafe. Zark says that Princess is minding the cafe for a friend. In Gatchaman, the 'cafe' is actually a bar, belonging to Jun(Princess). Outside the bar, a sign in the shape of the letter 'J'. Jinpei(Keyop) works for Jun in the bar, which is why he is constantly shown washing dishes. The cafe appears in several episodes of Battle of the Planets.
-
In the original Gatchaman, it was the young Sheik's father, not his uncle who seized control of the 'Sheikdom'.
-
The "Ghostly Grasshopper" mech in this episode is actually a Praying Mantis.
-
Although Tiny is on the Phoenix while the rest of the team investigates the mountain, a green-caped member of G-Force is clearly seen in a couple of pan-out shots. Whoops!
-
When G-Force is driving away from the amusement park with the giant indian seen out the back window, Mark is talking to Tiny. However, it is Ronnie Schell's voice as Jason we hear, and not Casey Kasem's voice as Mark.
-
Mark and Chief Anderson are seen at a restaurant together on Zarkadia. How did Anderson get there, as it was before The Phoenix arrived with the rest of the team? Furthermore, Anderson is head of security for Center Neptune, so there is no reason for him to be on Zarkadia.
-
Mark is undercover, but openly tells Dr. Sweet he's from G-Force. The members are never to tell anyone they are with G-Force while in civilian guise, especially when undercover.
-
Zark says the new planet was "literally hiding behind Venus." This is not possible. By 2001, when the show is supposed to take place, probes have been to Venus and would have seen it. The only other possibility would be the planet is in another solar system, and the view of the planet was always blocked by Venus. The odds of this improbablity is too astronomical to comprehend.
-
7-Zark-7 seems to float from the middle of his command room to his screens. In later epsidoes, his cape flaps to lift him. If this was a technology advancement, one would think the floating sequence would come later in the series.
-
Right before the Fiery Phoenix, Jason sits down next to Tiny. But it's Casey Kasem who says, "I'll take over, Tiny," when it should have been either David Joliffe or Alan Oppenheimer.
-
7-Zark-7 says G-Force will remain in the Fiery Phoenix mode for 24 hours, making it seem like this is a requirement. However, we see the team transmute back and forth whenever they please in later episodes.
