Given the effectiveness of this particular kamikaze mission, it's a wonder that the Cylons don't try this stuff more often. One of the few episodes that takes place exclusively in space, aboard the Galactica, this episode does a good job of building suspense, as strategy after strategy fails in the face of (not Cylon raiders!) a simple fire in their midst.
This episode gets high marks because, with Apollo and Starbuck on the right side of the flames, Boomer as a character gets a chance to shine as he helps 19 other people on the Recreation Deck survive. Adama's injury is shocking, if ultimately superficial. But the constant frustration of their best plans (Boomer moving from room to room, the three pilots doing fly-by runs on the flight deck, and the constant retreat of the firefighters before the flames) allows for some great twists in the plot.
