Ok so I am torn between hating this movie and loving it so i'm inbetween, I liked some of it and I didn't like most of it. Heres what I enjoyed.
The main thing in this movie that I really loved was the Samual T. Anders story of survial in a cylon nuked Caprica, along with his pro-Prymid team members. I have been dieing to see Sam's Caprica restiance story since season 3, and now we finally ge to see it!Now if they had focused more on that then this movie may have been better rated. Samual T. Anders is one of my favriote cylon's and Michael Trucco does a great job acting.Anders was just an ordinary guy (ok so he was a professinal sports star or something like that) whenthe cylons nuck caprica, now his friends and fellow team mates are panicing and do not know what to do, not even the coach. They all look to Anders as their leader and he does a great job at that (given the circumstances). I enjoy these kinds of stories where a great disaster happens and an ordinary person comes up to the plate and leads the people to safty or victory (without going mad with power). Anders is atruely loyal charecter and his loyalties and motives are never put into question in the entire BSG series. The Plan really made Sam shine.
CGI was amazing, I think everyome has to agree with that. The cylon attack against the other 12 colonies was epic and heart pouding, this is something I wanted to see in the pilot (but yes i know production can be a hassal). Also what was really good about this scene was that we finally got to see other Colonies besides Fraking Caprica! That has always iritated me in the BSG series that caprica was always the Colony eeryone talked about that was better then all the rest, they even named their new planet New Caprica! It was great to see scence of the other Colonies and to get a idea what they were most known for.
I kinda liked the Simon story, I thought it was good for a movie and Simonwas the most under screentime cyylon in BSG.
What I didn't like,The writters totally robbed Tory Foster of a background story, charecter development, screen time and point of view at all! They did a great job setting her up as a minor-villan in the 4th season (I can completly understand her motives, I mean she was a hard worker who had little to no life in the fleet, and when their world has endded and they've been stuck on a ship for 2 years i would definatly try to explore new way of forming a personal life, and when she finds out she's a cylon it makes sense that she is the only one of the final four whosides with the rebal cylon) But come on you have to give us more you can't just leave us hanging with what we got, they could of at least had a deleted scene with her in it or at least showed us what ship she was on before Billy KIA in season 2, maybe even have Brother Cavil interact with her, or had a story of how she started working for Roslin or what shedid duringthe goverment and military civil war that happed in season, you mean to tell me that they couldn't come up with any thing for her to do in this 2 hour movie!
Something else I didn't like, or rather something that bothered me was Cavil (the evil cylon mastermind and main villan of BSG). Now the actor who plays himdid a fantastic job, its just-- there was this scene where he and Sam chat. Sam, thinking Cavil is a priest and not a cylon, decides to confess his sins and mistakes, which Sam views are his thoughts of leaving the others; bad choices he's made while under presure (andunder heavy fire) that cost him the lives of friends; and lastly that he had never lead his Prymid team, the C-Buck's to wining a championship game (I kinda would like to see a Prymid game jut to see what it would look like). NowCavil, who is sly and very mainipulativeto point were he hoodwinked the other models (his siblings) to doing what he wanted to do, he practiacally gave his cover as a cylon agent awaywhile trying to convince Sam that he was wrong about humans and that Cavil was right all along. Now recap here, the final 5(Sam, Tory, Ellen, Saul and the Cheif) made the human cylon models including Cavil. But Cavil killed them and placed them in the colonies with false memories of being human so at this poin in time Sam has no idea what Cavil is talking about and Cavil is not thinking stright he's to busy getting his 'daddy issues' of his back. I haf expected the conversation to turn out like this.CAVIL: "Why do you love the humans so much! Why do you love them more than me Daddy!"SAM : "Uhh...w-w-what, what the hell! IAin't your Daddy! If anything you shouldbe my Daddy! You got wrincels and gray hair for frak sakes!"Now that would have been funny. So Cavils plan to make his parent apoligize didn't really make sense, since they thought they were human it only fueled their hatered toward cylons.
So didn't love this movie but I didn't completly hate it. I think they should do one where the final 5infiltrate the colonies during the first cylon war andsee a story throw their eyes, maybe even get some background on them from cylon earth. But thats just a thought.moreless

  • A last hurrah for those of us that loved the show. But it felt like the magic is gone as this plan was basically a clip show wrapped around some screen time for the more little used cylons.moreless

I loved BSG and considered it one of the best sci-fi shows I seen, so I'm not a hater. That being said, this was very dissapointing. It seemed to be more of a way for syfy (or whatever they are calling themselves now) to milk some more life from what was their best and most loved show.

"The Plan" obstensibly was to tell the story of BSG from the cylons point of view. Many people on here seemed to want a great master plan to reveal itself with this finale installment. Honestly, I didn't think there would be, because if they had a great story about "The Plan", it would have been in the actual show.

"The Plan" did not dissapoint me with these lowered expectations. As it was revealed here, the plan was supposed to be a flawless destruction of the colonies, which was screwed up by BSG surviving. The cylons subsequent tries to finish the job ended up being flawed and failed. The plot basically was (spoilers) the cylons eventually accepting the plan was flawed from the get go, and the cylons became tied up with the humans (even Cavil coming to accept it eventually, even if not happily), and began to empathise with the humans, therefore seeing that they were wrong.

The problem is obviously, we already knew all this. As this was shot after the series finale, this movie could have dealt with some of the questions remaining from the series such as why attack every 33 minutes, why did they want little Hera so badly, and many others too numerous to list here.

Instead, it used many clips from past seasons and focused on Cavil and Boomer. It explained Cavil planting instructions to her before killing Adama, but this really didn't add anything for me. When I watched the original series, I don't remember thinking "how is Boomer getting her instructions?" lol who cares? really?

Also, it must be said, we kind of see why the Jorals, Simons, and Cavil were not given major storylines. They were just not compelling. I dont know if their acting wasnt strong, or that the writers didn't know what to do with them. But after watching this movie, it became appearent to me the Simons and the other little seen models were not in the main show much for a reason, and Dean Stockwell, while a great supporting actor, didn't have a deep enough character to even carry this movie for the two hours it had.

The Plan, in the end, kinda reminded me of the side novels J.R.R. Tolkien wrote about Middle Earth. It added depth to that universe, but they were boring and you really don't need to read them to enjoy fully the Lord of the Rings.

The whole enterprise, while having nice shots of the destruction of the other colonies and some new insights, struck me as an afterthought and unnecessary. Syfy milked this as far as it will go, hopefully Caprica will be the new story BSG needs to continue the franchise. The story it told was one the viewer already kinda knew without it being shown, and this movie showed it. Very dissapointing way to go out. I know Syfy wants to milk BSG, but when a story is over, its over, and movies about side characters are just not that compelling. The magic was there, and I loved BSG, but is gone. Lets just appreciate BSG now for what it was.moreless

  • Don't taint your love of the series with this lame movie.

This was a horrible episode. Creating an episode around a petty minded character and try to make it seem interesting did not work. It was bad enough when they created a cylon model that seemed to embody everything the cylons hated about the human race, but come on give this annoying pathetic character the spotlight and say that this was all because of his plan is really stretching it.

The plan is not necessary or needed to complete your understanding of the series. The creators would have been better off to just admit that they wrote themselves out of the intro "They have a plan".

This was a suicide bullet for the series. I wish I had never seen The Plan.moreless

    What a waste!
There are so many things wrong with this so called movie (actually it's just a collage of seen (and unseen?) scraps mixed with uninspired new scenes), that it is too much to list them all here.
Non of all the important questions are answered.
Chosing sad old Cavil (X2!) as the main character drags this last episode down to dark debts.
Cylons are machines (are they?), but that can't be the reason of a complete absence of emotion.
The few new ideas (like Gallactica's Simon's family) are gravely underused.
There is no beauty or style in the photography.
The time frame for this story is odd. It starts as the colonies are destroyed and ends before 'Pegasus' : nothing new here.
As a Battlestar Gallactica fan i'm almost ashamed to admit I fell asleep halfway thru...moreless

  • Is this the longest 'deleted scene' in history?

Honestly, this whole thing felt like something that the original series' creators left on the cutting room floor.
There was no tension, no new action and the great 'plan' turned out to be 'wipe out humanity'... Wow. Like I'd never guessed.
There was some suggestion that this was designed to 'teach them a lesson'. But what's the point if the idea was to have nobody left alive to benefit?
I came close to dozing off about an hour in, having given up waiting for a decent story to develop and losing interest in the endless waffle by the central characters.
It was good to see that Dean Stockwell had been given a major role, but what a waste!
I suppose if enough people buy this SyFy will probably look to make more money out of BSG - but if they do make another TV movie I hope it's on a par with Razor and not this enormous missed opportunity.moreless
