Edward took jobs delivering furniture between music gigs and small acting roles before landing the role of El Pachuco, the narrator in Zoot Suit. By the time the production ended, Olmos had won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle award, a Theatre World award and was nominated for a Tony Award.

After that, acting roles became easier to find for Olmos including 1981's Wolfen and 1982's Blade Runner with Harrison Ford. Olmos then joined the cast of Miami Vice as Lieutenant Martin Castillo. Olmos continued to have great success both acting and directing.

His second wife was actress Lorraine Bracco, though that marriage also ended in divorce.

He produced the trailer in an attempt to pressure Universal into creating a new series of Battlestar Galactica that would have been a direct continuation of the original series. They lived in Edmonton, Alberta, where Callum graduated from Strathcona High School. Throughout high school, and for several years after that, he wanted to be a mountaineer and supported his climbing habit by laying railroad tracks, cooking, and digging ditches. In his twenties, he was working in a restaurant when some of his friends invited him to join a radio show at the University of Alberta campus radio station CJSR. He was immediately hooked and also appeared in several theater productions. Later in his life, he stated that film was his medium, though, because he was intimidated by the live audience and enjoyed the possibility of redo scenes until they work. He decided to try his luck in Toronto, but he fell in with a bad crowd. He ended up in Vancouver, surviving on scattered low-paying jobs and, at one point, welfare checks. He enrolled in the Bruhanski Theatre Studio in Vancouver, taking acting classes, but life wasn't easy. Callum went through a decade-long phase of alcoholism, in which drinking was a large and destructive part of his life. In 1993, he was involved in barroom fight and injured the retina in his left eye with a piece of glass. His eye healed, but the glasses he wore in Double Happiness are his own. That incident made him realize that he had to change. He got a champion-tattoo on his right arm and has been sober ever since. Callum appeared in several movies and tv series in Canada, winning praise from critics and several awards for his intense portrayals. In the US he mainly landed small guest spots until he earned international recognition for his roles in Battlestar Galactica and Californiation. And although no one really came, they still continued with their show. In high school, she acted in school plays and portrayed the title role in a local production of Little Orphan Annie. She attended some acting courses growing up and after graduating from Hugh Boyd Secondary School in Richmond, British Columbia (June 2000), Clyne finally got herself a talent agent and auditioned for TV and movie roles. Nicki also went to University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, both located in Vancouver. In 2002, she got a bit part as a Talon waitress in an episode of the Vancouver-filmed CW series Smallville. It was originally meant to develop as a recurring role, but that never materialized. Her other TV appearances include guest-starring roles in The Dead Zone, The L Word, and Dead Like Me among others. In 2004, Nicki made her film feature debut as a lead actress and starred with fellow Vancouver native and Battlestar Galactica co-star Paul Campbell in Ill Fated, an independently-produced Canadian film about the quirky life in a small town. In the mini-series which eventually developed into the Sci-Fi Channel series, Battlestar Galactica, Clyne merely played a background character, but her role became an essential cog in the later development of the show as the wife of Senior Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol or "The Chief" (played by Aaron Douglas).moreless

  • Aaron Douglas

    Galen Tyrol

    9.1
Aaron was born in a small town just out of Vancouver called New Westminster. His mother gave birth to Aaron on August 23rd 1971. From such a young age of four or five, Aaron told his parents that he wanted to be an actor. Though unbelieving they listened to Aaron and he quotes them as the "Best Parents anyone can ever have". Aaron has a brother called Chris who unlike Aaron, decided to go to school and get a real job degree and profession. Growing up Aaron played hockey and continues to this day to stand on the blue ice and have frozen rubber disks shot at him at great velocity. Unlike fists, guns and small forest creatures Aaron has no apparent fear of these frozen Ding Dongs and is violently protective of his blue ice having been known to shatter an ankle or two of players who venture onto his most holy frozen blue water. Aaron has participated in various forms of the arts from being in a rock band (TRC) in high school to drama class from elementary school. After graduation (high school, Aaron did not go to college) he spent many years finding out what he did not want to do with his life (salesman, sports nutrition rep., marketing, floor layer, etc.) and eventually ended up in the William Davis Center for Actors Study in Vancouver. There Aaron met Garry Davey, the artistic director of the school at the time, who encouraged Aaron to pursue this craft of acting. Aaron attended the William Davis Center for the full-time program for one year at the end signing with an agent and getting on with his acting career. During the school days Aaron worked at Earls restaurant on Robson as, you guessed it, a waiter and owes many thanks to Dario Gianna (Big Tuna) the GM for his support in the beginning years. Thankfully Aaron has now put the serving days behind him and patronizes the restaurant as a customer and nothing else. Currently Aaron is portraying Chief Galen Tyrol in Battlestar Galactica and can be seen in various television and feature films on TV and in the theaters. Aaron would like to thank Russ Mortensen and Lena Lees at Pacific Artists in Vancouver and William Ward Jr., Mickey Barold and David Rudy at Roar Management in Los Angeles. These are the people who take Aarons money with little or no work. Aaron feels he would be just as well off with a monkey but for some reason the monkey has a hard time dialing the phone and takes too many smoke breaks.moreless

  • Lucy Lawless

    D'Anna Biers/Number Three

    9.5
"Her courage will change the world"-- Xena: Warrior Princess. Lucy was born Lucille Frances Ryan on March 29, 1968, in Mount Albert, Auckland, New Zealand; she was the 5th of 7 children, of Frank and Julie Ryan. Lucy enjoyed acting and appeared in many plays in high school. Later, she attended Auckland University and studied German, Italian and French for a year. As many young people from New Zealand do, she then headed for her O.E. (that's "Overseas Experience"). Lucy left college and headed for Europe where she and her boyfriend, Garth Lawless, traveled around Switzerland and Germany (to earn travel money, she picked grapes on the beautiful Rhine, "for about 3 seconds" she said later in a TV interview). Then Lucy and Garth headed to Australia to earn some more travel money; they found work with a gold mining company outside of Kalgoorlie, about 500 miles from Perth. Lucy and Garth were married in Australia in 1988, and then returned to New Zealand where Lucy had a daughter, Daisy. Lucy was chosen Mrs. New Zealand in 1989. She did a "really bad, cheesy commercial for travel" which led to her first real acting job in a New Zealand comedy troupe show called "Funny Business." Later, Lucy landed the job as co-host for Air New Zealand Holiday, a travel magazine. Lucy worked in numerous television and film productions. Finally, she got her breakout role of Lysia in Hercules and the Amazon Women (1994) (TV). Shortly thereafter, the producers needed someone to play Xena. Lucy, tall (5' 10-1/2"), athletic, with brown hair and blue eyes, was perfect for the part. But there was a snag: at first, the producers (what do they know?) did not want Lucy for the part of Xena-- after all, she had played a different character already. So, Lucy dyed her light hair a dark brown, making her look a bit different, and history was about to be made! Lucy, in her leather outfit and armed with her mighty Chakram, was thus cast in her signature roll of Xena in 3 episodes of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995)-- "The Warrior Princess"; "The Gauntlet" and "The Unchained Heart"-- that would lead to her own spin-off series, Xena: Warrior Princess (1995). Although "Xena" immediately got a huge fan following in America, ironically "Xena" was not being shown in her native New Zealand, so Lucy did not achieve her tremendous popularity in her homeland until a bit later. In October 1996, Lucy came to America to be on Jay Leno's Tonight show. She was to do a publicity stunt, making a grand entrance by riding a horse in the parking lot. The horse tripped on the cement, Lucy fell and broke her pelvis. (Ironically, for the entire 6-year run of "Xena," Lucy-- doing her own stunts and riding horses-- never received a serious injury.) After convalescence and another season of "Xena," Lucy returned to America for another visit; Lucy made her Broadway debut playing Betty Rizzo in "Grease" from September to October, 1997. Also Lucy (divorced from Garth in 1995) became engaged to "Xena" executive producer Robert G. Tapert at that time. They married in Santa Monica, California on March 28, 1998. On October 16, 1999, they had a son, Julius Robert Bay Tapert, born in New Zealand. Although Xena: Warrior Princess has been canceled after a fantastic 6-year run. In 2005-2009, she had a recurring role in the television series, Battlestar Galactica. She played D'Anna Biers, a reporter with the Fleet News Service who worked on a critical documentary. She also landed recurring roles on CSI: Miami, The L Word, Flight of the Conchords and landed a starring role in Spartacus: Blood and Sand in 2009 as Lucretia, the wife of Lentulus Batiatus. She is a member of the board of trustees of the StarShip Foundation and a 'climate ambassador' for the Greenpeace 'Sign On' campaign. She also has experience in musical theater and she appeared on Broadway in a production of Grease, as the character of Betty Rizzo, in 1997. She was also a contestant on Celebrity Duets and made her onstage debut at the Roxy in Hollywood on 13 January 2007. She has since released 2 albums.moreless
