For those that don't know yet...

    CAPRICA
"Originally on: SciFi (60 min.) Status: New Series Premiered: January 1, 2007 Show Categories: Science-Fiction, Action/Adventure, Drama Set 50 years prior to the events of Battlestar Galactica, this prequel
series will explore the lives of two families: the Graystones and the
Adamas. The two families are on opposing sides of the decision to
create the Cylons: intelligent robots that will one day rebel and
nearly annihilate the residents of Caprica."

Read more about it here (yeah right here on TV.com, search for "Caprica"), I for one am excited and curious what this "prequel" series will turn into, if it's nearly as good as BSG, then it will be one of my faves for sure...

That's incorrect. Actually someone jumped the gun by adding that show to the TV.com database. The show hasn't even been greenlighted by Sci Fi yet.

The only reason the date reads Jan. 1, 2007, is because that's the default date. We can't add 2008 or 2009 as the year yet. Even assuming Caprica is approved by Sci Fi, it will take at least a year for the production process to spin up. They need to hire writers, production staff, and actors. They need to build sets and create any special effects/CGI effects. They need to write the scripts and then shoot the episodes. I wouldn't expect to see any episodes of the show for at least 12 months minimum. Summer or fall 2008 is a more likely starting date.

It seems that all we know about the "Prequel" is that the concept was created and the rest is just rumors for now

Ronald Moore said this month that the script for the one-hour pilot episode is now on the desks of Sci Fi executives for their consideration. So Caprica is not yet an official series. The only actions that have been taken are the creation of that first script and the coordination of Ronald Moore, David Eick and Remi Aubuchon as co-executive producers. Remi Aubuchon will be the show runner.

Mr. Aubuchon is a co-executive producer and writer for the Fox series "24" and a writer for the HBO mini-series "From the Earth to the Moon." He had a proposal for a robot rebellion series that he submitted independently of Moore and Eick's idea for a prequel to BSG. The network saw the similarities between the two ideas and asked the three to work together. They agreed. Moore and Eick are unlikely to write many scripts for Caprica, if they write any at all. Moore said that he will approve story arcs and script ideas but Aubuchon will run the day-to-day operations of the show, if and when it begins production.

This series sounds rather dull - alot like "Dallas" in outer space focusing on robots instead of oil  Its a bad idea.

I don't know, it might be cool but i can see this series as having a hard time to gain momentum.

I am tickled pink that they will finally look at Cylons more closely. They have shown us only glimpses of what the world looks to a Cylon (ability to adapt the vision of their surroundings), obviously couldn't decide whether they have almost super-human strength or not and gave us absolutely no clues on why their hierarchy is what it is and who established it.

If they give it a good college try, it could be every bit as revolutionary as BSG is.

While talking about getting to know the "Cylon culture" more, I would love to see a few BSG episodes that focus on Cylons.. on how they fight the "good" battle even to the point where we can understand and even to some degree support them in their battle against humans ;-) All I want is to see the "biased" view from both sides and we've seen plenty from human perspective.

Official or not, for some reason I doubt that this spinoff will come even close to Battlestar Galactica's success. Sure, it gives some insight on the pasts of certain key characters within the story of Galactica, but it just won't be the same. I'm not saying it will be completely abysmal, but it certainly will not be the same, and possibly wont make it past it's miniseries.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. It could end up being better than it's predecessor Galactica, either that, or my theory was right. It's extremely hard to tell at this point.

The show was on the backburner for a long time but the writers' strike must have led the studio to reconsider the project. Sci Fi Channel finally decided to produce the TV movie (which could serve as a backdoor pilot if the viewer numbers are sufficient). So right now, the Caprica TV movie (or miniseries) will be made and aired this fall. After that, nothing is set. Sci Fi Channel will decide on the fate of the regular series after the movie/miniseries airs.

EVERYONE better watch the Caprica miniseries/movie (whenever is debuts) so SciFi will turn it into a show.

The series is not over after these two episodes, following a several month spanned break, Galactica is scheduled to return with 10 more episodes, and possibly three "tele-movies", and another webisode series that will most likely be available exclusively on SciFi.com (only for americans). But the series will end towards the summer of 2009.

Here's what we know for certain:

This fall we'll see the Caprica TV movie and BSG webisodes (probably available only for U.S. residents -- sorry). The final 10 episodes of Season 4 will air, most likely in 2009. But we don't know whether they will start up in January, in April, or in some other month.

The BSG TV movies are only rumors at this point. There could be 3, or 2, or 1, or none.
