Simply amazing.... Normally I write up long blog posts here as first drafts for episode reviews but this one just left me in such shock that I'll wait a bit to write up a lengthy review....

That final 10 minutes was incredibly tense and powerful. Not what I thought was going to happen at all. There were a lot of signs throughout the episode that Cally would commit suicide, possibly through the use of the antidepressant pills she got from Cottle. (One spoiler article that I saw accidentally had stated that Cally would commit suicide in this episode. Looks like the writers faked out those spoiler revealers although they did give away that Cally would die.)

Then I wondered if she would take Nicky along with her, thus leaving Hera as the only Cylon-human hybrid again. A lot has been made of Hera as the future but no one makes much of a fuss over Nicky, since only the four "Final Five" Cylons know that Nicky is a hybrid.

I wished Cally had had at least a couple minor appearances in the earlier episodes this season just so that her sudden central role in this episode didn't come across as unusual as it did. But that's a minor quibble.

The power of that final confrontation between Tory and Cally made up for some of the slower bits with Kara aboard the Demetrius. That's why I rated this a 9.9. If an episode can give me chills like this one did, then it deserves a very high rating. I took one-tenth of a point away for the relatively weak scenes with Kara. The Lee-Zarek-Roslin story was also pretty sedate. It sets up an ongoing battle between Lee and Roslin but not too much happened in that storyline in this episode.

But this wasn't about Lee or Kara. It was about Cally as she was finally featured throughout an episode for the first time in a very long time.

I see that other people recognized the Star Trek: The Next Generation reference too. I picked up on the weapons locker number immediately but I was too wrapped up in the story to submit it. Two other people submitted it. I wonder about another item in the story too. The freighter was named Demetrius. If you've read the online novel that I've been working on for the last 12 months, you would know that one of the original characters I created is named Demetrious Karkheris. I first posted that name online back in September I think. I wonder if someone on the staff read some of it and threw out the name of the freighter as a wink. If so, then I think that's incredibly COOL! (Even if that's not the real story, let me think it is for a while. Hey, I've got an ego like everyone else.)

If people wanted to nitpick at anything, I guess they could talk about some of the arguing and also the four-way split among the stories of Cally, Kara and the freighter crew, Lee's new role in the Quorum of the Twelve, and the Cylon civil war, which left little time to explore each story in depth. But I don't mind that too much. Cally's story more than made up for any minor flaws and I just have to say that the final scene with Cally and Tory was just outstanding!

I think the podcasts usually go up a day or two after the episode airs, don't they?

Actually during the first season they went up 2 Hours before the show aired. They wisely decided to stop doing that.

Since then, they usually post them 15-30 min prior to air.

Interesting to know. Hopefully they post them soon. It looks like Ronald Moore only finished the podcasts yesterday or today. That wouldn't give the studio enough time to post the podcast today, but hopefully the podcasts for the next two episodes arrive on schedule, whatever that may be.

Well the episode has officially aired. Anyone who ventures into the thread who hasn't seen the episode yet does so at their own peril.

I can't believe they killed off Cally... The hits just keep coming this season. The Cylons killed each other with no resurrection ship too, that was pretty frakked up as well. I just don't know what to say, I'm in shock really. I really can't think of anything to say right now.

I'm totally avoiding the previews for next episodes from now on. They TOTALLY telegraphed the fact that Tori would 'airlock' Cally in every single preview I saw for this episode, to the point that I was almost waiting for it to happen at the end. The only surprise for me this ep was the fact that all the other Sixes and non-Boomer Boomers are toasted, leaving only Boomer/Athena, and Caprica-Six left for their entire model lines. 3 out of the 7 down, 3 on BSG, 1 with Kara, 1 will be revealed...

Otherwise, I enjoyed Lee's power play. Roslin seriously doesn't play fair in politics, she has no troubles fixing elections and burying opponents since she thinks she's the 'savior' of mankind as foretold in legends. I'm hoping Lee and Tom will keep her checked and balanced before she OD's on hallucinogens and tries to execute Kara when she finds Earth or something, cause it's obvious that Addy Adama will let Roslin get away with whatever the heck she wants.

Cally had to pay for killing Boomer and turning her/it evil anyways. She just got what was coming to her, she frakkin was gonna commit suicide and murder baby half-Cylon anyway because she couldn't take the fact that Chief was a toaster. Tori was the only one who was looking out for the team and noticed that the Jeffries Tube cover was open, and just traced Cally's steps to make sure there weren't any witnesses to the Cylons on BSG.

But I found it interesting that Cally only started 'feeling weird' as she told Doc when the ship entered into the nebula-- is this just because that's when Chief started acting weird (after he found out he was a Cylon) or because SHE is the Final Cylon?? I guess not, since she was able to have Chief's kid...

Great episode Tory's descent into cold machine was the focus point for me with Starbuck a different kind of madness but madness all the same being the underlying theme. Wow watching Calle go out was something I knew she was going to die but the whole ordeal was done greatly. I love how Apollo's new job isn't a smooth sailing and the prospect of him allowing himself to be used as Zareks hitman is intriguing.

When you think about it, Tory was basically trying to save the little half-Cylon's life. She's basically the same as Athena, and since Cally was willing to throw her own baby out the airlock I kinda hafta side with Tory over Crazy Cally on this one. Plus, Cally practically ended her marriage already since she took a wrench to Chief's face, she didn't have faith that he was still the same guy even as a 'skinjob', and we all saw how fast she shot Boomer in the gut back in the day, Cally gets no tears from me.

Wow...I am actually in shock after that. It really gives a taste of where the season is going to go after this. Luckily, I've been avoiding the promos all season, so I had no clue how Cally was going to die, and almost fell for Tory's story. Until she took Nicky. And the look on her face when she opened the airlock? I am now officially terrified of her. Tigh suprisingly, seems to be the sanest of the four. Anders isn't doing too badly either.

Starbuck's storyline, do you think they are playing up the goddess Aurora thing? I mean when Anders is looking up through the grating at her, and she's standing there in that light? Goddess image much? It's interesting that she seems to be falling apart again. And Lee's not there to put her back together, as he always has been before. I also wonder what is happening with Hera if both Helo and Athena are with Starbuck. It was nice to see a bunch of familiar faces in that subplot.

In terms of the cylon plotline, the centurions are definitely heading towards revolution. The look it gave Natalie when she ordered it to escort Cavil out? And now apparently they are all dead, although I have a feeling that they might get out of it somehow, just because Natalie has been played up a bit, and I don't think that she's completely gone this early in the season. Maybe the hybrids will rebel. A nice thing to see was that they opened the door to D'Anna's return, so seeing how that plays out should be interesting.

As to Lee's storyline, not too much happened, other than Lee being idealistic, and perfectly in character, but I have a feeling that the politics will work up as something pretty big between Lee and Roslin.

The scene with Adama reading to Roslin was adorable.

And Adama has lost yet another member of his family. And I have a feeling that he will lose them all before this season is done. Roslin probably won't survive, and I doubt Kara an Lee will either. As Lee said "Bright shiny futures are overrated." This was said in response to what Kara said. That "the President says that we're saving humanity for a bright, shiny future. on Earth. That you and I are never gonna see. We're not. Because we go out over and over again until someday, some metal motherfrakker is gonna catch us on a bad day and just blow us away." And Adama will be left alone, without his family. I have a feeling that this final season is going to be dark enough to make the first few seasons seem light and fluffy.

I am sure there are millions of Sixes and 8s alive. Only 3 base ships were attacked so I am betting no more than 5000 skin jobs really died (worse case scenario) if they did. May be Natalie and other 8 are still alive since we didn't really see what happened to them.

Yeah poor Cally But at least now the secrets of the 3 of 4 will remain.

Plus damn, I was hoping to see D'Anna too But I will say one thing though is that, damn did Cavil get his revenge! That caught be off guard. I still hope that 6 and those Valeri's somehow survived [I know slim w/out a resurrection ship], but still I don't want to see them killed off like that plus w/Centurions that actually had independent thoughts. Looks like Cavil will be lobotomizing more Radiers

Wow ... I love the direction the show is taking. The split amongst both groups. I am really happy we're finally seeing the Cylon Civil War ... which was bound to happen. I was a bit surprised when it seemed that Six was totally unaware that they may be ambushed. How would you NOT think that? I probably would have put at least one of the other 'faction' members from each side aboard eachother's ships, for insurance.

I also really like the way Lee's character is developing, he's really growing up and out of his original hot-dog pilot persona. It's going to be interesting to see him butt heads with Roslin for sure!

I agree with 123 that the Dimitrius storyline was pretty under-fed. However, it gives us what we need to know, who is on the crew, Kara's current state of mind, and the fact that the 4 BSG cylons are now split as well. In addition, Kara's little diatribe on how she feels like she's in some 'Alien Body' may begin to parallel what Anders might be feeling now that he's found out he's a cylon. I'd really like to see those two back on an even keel.

Now, the Tory~Cally storyline. IMO, I think they moved Tory's acceptance about being a cylon a little too quickly, I also think they could have showed Cally's descent into near madness a little slower. All in all the situation between Cally, Tory, and Tyrol seemed to be really rushed.

I thought overall the episode was really good, one of my favorites even though it was rushed. I'm really looking forward to seeing who reaches Earth first now, BSG or Dimitrius. It's a race to the finish now!!!

P.S. I think the Cylons, minus the final five and perhaps a few others, are going to finish eachother off.

I think that has a decent possibility of happening. Instead of the big final showdown between the humans and cylons, they just each kill themselves off. Definitely not something that is widely expected, making it likely enough to be true.

I have the feeling that what we saw is just a ruse and that the Sixes, and Eights are going to survive somehow. Although the surprise attack by the Cavils was quite the move. And the decision to unbox D'Anna might be up in the air seeing as the Cavils took action against the Sixes and Eights. The Centurians were still doing all the work, but I'm willing to bet they are just biding their time. That look that the one centurian gave Natalie after Cavil left and the fact that she had to say "please" to have him escorted out is just the start of a dangerous sequence that can only end badly.

As for Cally...just whoa. Even when I saw the previews showing Tory about the puch the button, I kept thinking, "they wouldn't do it, Cally is too important to Chief. Something is going to stop it from happening." Looks like I was wrong. Poor Cally, she starts to lose it, thinking her husband is cheating on her, then she finds out he is really a Cylon. Smacks him in the head with a wrench, TWICE, and then tries to kill herself and their son. Like I said...WHOA. And I too was fooled by Tory's speech (even though I had seen the preview) I guess I just couldn't believe what I was watching.

Kara's Quest for Earth. Even though her story has slowed a little, it makes sense. There isn't a lot about a search mission that is very interesting. Especially since she doesn't really know where to begin. The first few episodes were crazy in that Katie really played up the crazy Kara character and now she seems even less connected to reality. She can't stand being around her husband, but doesn't mind sleeping with him. And no Lee to keep her in check, which definately doesn't help.

The four seem to be dealing with their newfound identities very differently. Tory is starting to accept who she is and knows what will happen if they are discovered. Tigh is using his position on Galactica to prevent himself from going crazy. Tyrol is spiraling slowly downward. He is always at Joe's bar drinking. And Anders is devoting himself to Starbuck to keep himself occupied.

So, I just kinda rambled on, but I just kept thinking of things to say.

I'm glad I didn't watch any previews for this at all. Everything comes as a shock that way.

I disagree with people saying that Tory has been "activated" or is discovering her Cylon self or something now.

I think she is in exactly the same state as she was before. She knows she is a Cylon, and is trying to come to terms with who she is. But why did she kill Callie? Because of Cylon programming? Nah, it seemed more like self-preservation. She knew she had to kill Callie to save herself and the other 3. I believe that she would act the same way if she were Cylon or human in that situation.

The only thing that points to her maybe being guided by Cylon programming is the preservation of the child. Perhaps she just did it for the Chief, but that is the one thing that leaves it open as to whether or not she is following programming or finding her own path.

It could be nothing more complicated than she sees Callie as a rival. She's obviously into the Chief. Altho the sudden burst of violence was effective and beautiful -- magnificent photography and WHOA I did not see that coming; the tenderness of taking the child immediately juxtaposed with the ruthlessness of a boot to the face. And the calm opening of the launch bay. If she's not a Cylon she's got ice water in her veins.

Either way, guess who's gonna pair-bond after the funeral.

Kara's clearly losing it, but it's part of what I love about this show. Her character is entirely consistent. She's a great flyer and a good staff sergeant but a terrible captain. She can keep a flight crew in line if she's got someone else to answer to, but she lives so much inside her own head that she can't communicate leadership from the top spot.

Another thing we've see from her before is the whole violence-as-foreplay thing. As soon as she started lashing out at Anders I knew where it was going. In fact, I was hoping he'd step up and say "You know what? No sex for you until you stop going bug-crazy."

In the words of "Low Self-Esteem": "2 a.m., she's at my door / She's drunk again and looking to score / I know I should say no / but it's kinda hard when she's ready to go."

Either way, it was nothing we haven't seen before from her. And her lashing out, just wanting to feel something, that's a lot different than the woman who was so sure she was on the path to Earth (which, just employ science -- clearly "All Along The Watchtower" is a radio signal that's been traveling for awhile )

It feels like they're trying really hard to make us (and her) believe she's a Cylon -- so hard I wonder what her mom is, and why Leoban's all up in her head. I loved that she was painting again. She's clearly being driven by something, but she's gotta convince her crew because she's becoming a little Ahab-by and farcical.

That and if the show is trying so hard to make me believe that she's the Other Cylon ... then who's really the Other Cylon?

    [shatneresque] MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE! [/shatneresque]

All the same, I loved this one. Abso-frakkin' loved it.

I find it curious that Tory had such an urge to protect the child. I take that to mean that when the four were "activated", they received more than simply the knowledge that they were cylons. They have some kind of directives. Maybe not buried programming, but just core knowledge of their mission that maybe won't be revealed until they are ready for it.
