April´s brother Charlie and her mother Paige are living with her in her small apartment. It´s very hard for April to see Charlie so sick and that everyone is being nice to him out of pity. Everyone has been told that Charlie has a rare form of cancer and that he is getting treatment for it at UCLA. Later April tells Mitch that Charlie isn´t being treated there, they just use him for research. A scientist is trying to find a way to detect this type of cancer. That means that Charlie doesn´t have so much time left to live. She also tells Mitch that having Charlie around must be such a downer for everyone. But Mitch assures her that Charlie is really inspiring. All the lifeguards take care of Charlie and he has the time of his life with them. Mitch takes him out on a wind jet and he gets the opportunity to drive it. He also writes a song together with Hobie. Meanwhile, it´s time for the annual Taplin dory race. Mitch and Newmie have won the event seven years in a row now, but this year, Mitch has decided to give Hobie a chance at winning and therefore, he will not compete himself. Newmie is convinced he can win the race on his own and has hired April to join him in the dory, only because the rules says that there must be two people in the dory. Hobie doesn´t like that Mitch isn´t entering and convinces him to race anyway. He can´t be the best if he doesn´t beat the best. Hobie and his friend Ingo Dobbins end up right beside Mitch and Newmie for the final run on the beach. Hobie ends up winning the race and Mitch has been beaten for the first time in seven years. At least his own son beat him. Meanwhile, Charlie is struggling to stay awake during the race. After the race, Mitch and Hobie hurry out to Charlie only to discover that he is dead. A funeral for Charlie is later held on the beach.moreless

This was one of the absolute best episodes I have ever seen! Although April acted like a annoying jerk at first, it was still great! I loved it! One of the most touching episodes ever! The only bad thing was all the speedos! I am so going to have nightmares because of all the speedos there were! I mean was season 8 the year of the speedo? Cause they never had them prior to that season ( although they might have in season 7, I havent seen that season yet )! Anyway, anyone who watches this episode will love it and find it touching! If you dont then you have serious problems!moreless

I really enjoyed this episode as we learn a bit more about April. April's brother, Charlie, has a rare form of cancer seen in children and gets let out early from hospital along with his mother. The one thing Charlie wants to do is see his sister and spend some time on the beach. April feels that her mother only came down for sympathy, so everyone can feel sorry him - but Mitch quickly tells her otherwise. Charlie is having the time of his life at Baywatch and everyone is paying attention to him.

The local Taplin race is back, Mitch and Newmie have won this event seven years in a row and are very confident, however Mitch wasn't going to enter the race as he wanted to see Hobie win it. Hobie makes a bet with Mitch that he will beat him as he wants to beat the best, so Mitch accepts and the race is on! J.D. and Cody are also in the race and want to beat Newmie and Mitch just as bad. Hobie ends up beating his old man.... but then... Charlie dies. He really wanted to see the race and dies durng it, whilst cheering on Hobie.

There is a funeral held on the beach for Charlie and Mitch says a very good speach, trying not to cry.

This episode was dedicatd to the real Charlie - "Charlie Everett Hays"

Good episode overall and a bit sad at the end..moreless
