Its the beginning of the summer and rookie school has just started. Cody meets his old diving instructor from Hawaii there. Her name is Lani McKenzie, and she has problems with her ex-boyfriend Darren. He cant accept that she has left him. When Darren approaches Lani and Sheryl while they are jogging on the beach, he and Cody end up in a fight. Later Lani is kidnapped by Darren and held hostage on a boat. However, Cody manages to locate the right boat and is able to bring Lani out of there, with a little help from her as well. Meanwhile, Manny wins the rookie competition and is really excited. When Mitch tells him that he cant become a lifeguard, due to the fact that he cant see well enough without his contact lenses, Manny freaks out and break one of the windows in Mitchs office. He also refuses to accept the offer to take a job at the local beach club. The Chief wants to promote Mitch to Captain after Samanthas departure. The Chief blames Mitch for Samanthas departure. She left Baywatch when she realized that she still loved her ex-husband Adam. Hobie doesnt do his best in the rookie competition but makes it anyway. Later when Mitch confronts him about it, he tells him that it isnt always easy to have a living legend as a father. One of the rookies named April doesnt make the cut, but is offered a spot when another rookie is injured. This upsets Richie Edmond, another rookie who is the one who was supposed to get the open spot. He had the wrong personality to become a lifeguard.moreless

I really thought I would like this episode but I didnt! I loved the parts with Hobie ( as alays ) but the rest was very boring! There isnt much to say about the episode because I just kept fast forwarding cause it was so boring! Some people may like it but I didnt! Hobie is as hot as ever though! I dont think he could get ugly though! He is to hot to get ugly! Otherwise, without Hobie the episode was a 1.0 but the Hobster rasied it to 5.4! Anway, thats about all to say about it... Not a favorite of mine at all!moreless

I really enjoyed this episode, especially waiting for a new season to start! We get a chance to see 5 new cast members enter the line up and see Baywatch develop into it's 8th Season.

I like competition and wanted to see how Hoby will go up against Manny, Sheryl did very well coming in 2nd - but Manny winning the competition overall was pretty obvious. Then to crush his dreams when he fails the eye exam and being told that he cannot become a County lifeGuard really breaks his heart. You really feel for him and after all, he won the rookie competition and you knew that was all ever wanted to do in life.

Another good story was Lani's ex-boyfriend Darren. The battle of jealousy over Cody was great.. ultimately Cody nearly getting killed, Lani saves him and Cody comes out the victor.

A very well written episode and I really enjoyed it, recommended for all Baywatch fans.moreless

    • Hobie try's out to become a Lifeguard. As we all know through the series he has always been a JR lifeguard. However so were his friends Connor and JB, so why is it they didn't try out, since practically every summer since they were 10 they did JR guards with Hobie. They even helped out with younger JR guards in season 7.

    • It said that a person had to be 18 to be a full fleged lifeguard. However in season 7, Hobbie was 16. A year later he is 18?
