Jessie has hired medical supply salesman Ed Symes as her stunt instructor. She found him in the yellow pages. But Ed is of course a terrible stunt instructor. When Jessie throws a punch at him, he is knocked out cold. Later when he is jumping from the balcony at headquarters onto a mattress, he misses the mattress and lands beside it instead. Jessie does the same thing and lands on the mattress. After that accident, she fires Ed for his own safety. But she doesn't get rid of him just because of that.
Later she and Mitch find him on the beach again. Ed wants to demonstrate other stunts to her now. First he wants her to break a candy glass bottle over the head. But the bottle is too hard and Ed is knocked out once more. Then when he tries to crash dive through candy glass, he is knocked out by the glass. Jessie tries to dive through the candy glass as well and does so perfectly. Ed tells her that she has the potential to be a great stunt woman.
Meanwhile, two girls fall off the Redondo Pier. Two policemen dive in after them. But their clothes get water-filled and when Cody and J.D. arrive to the scene, they have to rescue both the two girls and the two policemen. After the rescue, they both start to fantahow it would be to receive the Medal of Valor.
Mitch advice them not to tell anyone about the rescue. That would make the policemen look like fools and they would hear about it for the rest of their careers. So instead of getting nominated for the Medal of Valor, J.D. and Cody watch in astonishment as the two policemen receive the Medal of Valor for the rescue of the two girls and two L.A. county lifeguards.
While Mitch is swimming the towers on a soul search, he finds out that both Craig and April are in love. He believes they are in love with each other. Later during a rescue, he turns out to be right. Newmie is trying to impress a young woman named Carrie, who spends time by his tower. He does this by wearing a toupee that looks like a squirrel. Mitch tries to talk him out of it with no success. After being ignored several times, Newmie is disappointed. He wonders if it was all worth it and decides to give everything up to go back to school so that he can be somebody.
Mitch talks to him and reminds him of all the people he as rescued. After that, Newmie get rid of the toupee. He realizes that he doesn't need it after all. And finally, Carrie takes notice of him and decides to date him. Mitch also finds a dog while he is swimming.
