Episode Summary

Double Jeopardy
After repeated ambushes by the Predacons, this time costing the Maximals a stasis pod, Optimus calls Rattrap's loyalty into question, and sends him off into Predacon territory to look for energon. Once there, he is attacked by Terrorsaur, and offers to surrender... and become a Predacon.

  • This one got me good.

This one got me ever since I first saw it. It shows a good strategy of how the enemies know of what their enemies is going to do next. Optimus sends Rattrap to the Predacon's territory beacuse he thinks he is the traitor behind the ambushes. Later on when Rattrap was in the Predacon's base and was locked up by Terrasaur to question his loyalty he finds out that a computer with a Maximal's chip in it can get inside the Maximal's base. The chip lets them hear the Maximals of what they're saying. What is so great about this episode is that Rattrap's live was on jeopardy. One is the Predacon's loyalty and the other is the Maximal's loyalty. If he chooses either one of those he would be destroyed.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Scorponok talks like Waspinator when he mentions that Megatron is the Predacons true leader.

    • During the stasis pod fight between Optimus, Dinobot, Waspinator, Terrorsaur and Scorponok, Optimus aims at Waspinator while he was carrying the pod. It is a goof because in Feral Scream Part I (mainly starring Cheetor, Depth Charge and Dinobot II) Optmius mentions to Cheetor that he was putting the protoform (the one that becomes Dinobot II) at risk whilst aiming at Waspinator with his rifle. Not to mention that Cheetor was putting a BLANK protoform in danger while in this episode Optmius was putting a protoform WITH A SPARK in danger!!!!

    • Cheetor and Rhinox say that Sector 12 is an area that's a "deathtrap" with an "energon storm". When we see the area, there are no energon storms and Rattrap walks around in robot mode without any trouble.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Megatron: And so ends the 'glorious' rein of Terrorsaur, a lost battle, a missing Blackarachnia, and who know what damage inflicted by the maximal spy!
      (Terrorsaur's head falls off)
      Terrorsaur: Oh, my achin' head.

    • (On Rattrap's betrayal)
: Will you still defend your friend, or you'll see him for what he is - a traitor!
      : You're a fine one to talk!

    • Megatron: A wise tyrant always lets a fool lead during a crisis.

    • Megatron: A Maximal traitor, and a deposed Megatron. Yes, we are an unlikely pair...I will consider your fate after my restoration. Computer, access voice recognition command!
      Computer: Megatron confirmed.
      Megatron: Open cell. Summon platform.
(Megatron's jail cell opens and a flying platform flies over.)
Megatron: The wise tyrant always ensures that his prisons are built for his...personal escape.
      (Megatron flies off)

    • (On Blackarachnia)
Tarantulas: Oh, be still my quivering spinnerets.

    • (after Megatron leaves)
Rattrap: And a wise Maximal traitor always insure that he has a handy toolbox fer jist such an occation.

  • NOTES (5)

    • This is the only point in the series where Blackarachnia is referred to as "Ms. Arachnia."

    • For someone who became one of the more popular characters of the series, Blackarachnia has arguably one of the most inauspicious introductions.

    • Look closely at Scorponok's missiles in the opening scene. The Maximal insignias have been replaced by Predacon ones. See The Web for more information.

    • Watch the stasis pod as it comes into the atmosphere - you can clearly see Blackarachnia's head design on the protoform.

    • Because the original Blackarachnia toy was a repaint of the original Tarantulas figure, the animators had to make some changes to Blackarachnia's form to differentiate her from Tarantulas. Popular legend states that Blackarachnia's "extreme" feminine form was inspired by exotic dancers.
