the show take place in ancient times.

dar(daniel goddard) can talk to any animal, and daniel does a great job with the fighting and the action.

dar is trying to save animals while at the same time fighting evil with the help of his bestfriend tao.

i dont wanna give to much away, but the show as lots of powers in it,the acting is very good and its very suspensful with alot of fantasy.

even though i love this show.i felt like this show could have went longer but it didnt.it only lasted 3 seasons.

anyway i say give it a try.

I wished they did not end this series. I really loved this series when it was on and I could catch it on television. Even though I did not catch every episodes, I saw most of them. I loved everything about this series, from the main characters down to the villains in every episodes. I was sad to see this series be over but I was happy I was able to see the series when I could. For anyone who love and/or interest, then you should to and find the series and watch the series. I think it might be on YouTube, so try this website.
  • I was flipping through the channels and I came across the SCI-FI channel and at first I thought they were showing the movie Beastmaster.

When I saw they had several episodes on that day, I thought I would check it out. I had the day off from work; well, I was hooked after simply watching the first episode. I wish I could see the first episodes, but may be in time.

I throughly enjoy animals! Daniel was not half bad looking either! :) As I was watching another episode, I think it was called Tao's Brother, anyways, they were talking about the road they were building in the forest going to Tinka. How the road was killing the animals home and killing the animals. There was also an episode talking about the Tazmanian Tiger. How it was rare, the last of its kind. This episode made me really think about the wildlife. Made me think how I would like to do something to help protect the animals, especially the rare and almost extinct ones.

This show is OK. I think it's good. It just what I need when I get home from a bad day at work. It’s entertaining full of laughs and makes me want to never move again. It really captures the free spirit of media and keeps you wanting and guessing for more. It’s the kind of show that you don’t need to constantly watch in order to get the whole spectrum of what’s going on, I really like that, that way you can do multiple things at once. If you feel like it that is. This is defiantly one of my favorite shows.
  • ok idea...

Beastmaster is not a very good show, but it's not too bad. Dar can talk to animals and tries to help them and people. Tal is his friend and he is good with medicine, but he does little else. There are a lot of other odd characters and animals that appear regularly. I have to say the idea of the show is origonal and interesting, but it wasn't carried out very well. The plots and stories get boreing and annoying usually, but there were several exceptional episodes. Also, Dar wears just a little cloth. What's up with that? I mean, seriously, if the show wants to be taken seriously they have to cloth their actors...oh well...ok show, nothing that I would really watch now.
  • Couldn’t be better, but still not great.

I can’t remember the movie very well, it’s been a long time since I have watched it, but I do remember that I was fascinated by it. When the first episode of the series was aired I was delighted. The original idea of the movie was great, and perhaps it would have been better if it just stayed that way. Shows that deal with magic and supernatural are no longer hard to find, so these days it takes a lot more to impress the audience. I believe that the actors are the ones who keep the series going, by acting as well as their looks. There aren’t a lot of special effects, which, I believe, is a good thing for this show. It all looks natural, just the way it should, but it is not the kind of series that draw your attention and don’t let go.
  • Magical, Daring, Impeccable

Okay okay, this was one of my guilty pleasures. I started watching the show when it came on in syndication. I fell in love with it. The animals were wonderful, the feeling about the relationship between Dar and the animal kingdom was magical. Of course, tis an age old fight ... that fight between good and evil and Beastmaster pulls it off. King Zad and Dar going at it all the time. Dar wanting to preserve the old ways and Zad trying to forge on to new. Impeccably done. And come on ... we have magic, sorcery, and that cute little wood nymph with the backwards feet. Who wouldn't just fall for all that? Just phenomenal!!!
  • about a guy who can talk to animals and has to save the world!

this is a very good show, i could watch it for hours. the main charater Dar is hot, and his side kick looks pretty nice too, but other than just haveing really hot main chararters this show is also good to watch for other reasons, like the on going battle between good and evil and the fact that the beastmaster is searching for his family is so heart breaking you can not help but feel for these charaters. in saying that i would also like to mention that people who are not interested in magic, fantisy, or animals will not enjoy this show, but if you do indeed like any of those things this is the show for you!!!!!!
  • not as good as the movie

    "Mediocre"
the movie came out in the early 80's. the sequel did not come out until the 90's. this show came out in the late 90's. it was a decent show, but it could not hold a candle to the film. of course no one expected it to. it was just another show cashing in on the success of hercules.
  • Beastmaster is all about a warrior named dar, who has a special gift which allows him to communicate with all the animals in the forest in which he lives. And with his human friend tao and the animals beside him he makes a difference to the world!

    9.5
    "Superb"
Dar and his outragously funny friend Tao fight ( well dar does anyway!)to save the forest from the evil people in the world including demons and humans who dont see dars way of life satisfying or fun. So dar and his animal and human alias have to keep all of the animals safe from harms way. Although there are many obstyacles and challanges faced by dar and company they always manage to live to fight another battle.

With dar being able to speak to animals it is his duty to make sure of the animals well being or else his incredible power would be stripped from him forever! But Tao always helps him with his charm and wit.....and getting them both in trouble.....and getting kidnapped! Overall the show is great with fall off your seat laughter and hot bods! i love this show!
  • Dar also known as the Beastmaster comes to the rescue of many with his animal friends at his side.

The Beastmaster was a show I enjoyed in my youth my older siblings often watched it and I grew very fond of the ferrets. The Beastmaster kept with him. this show is very influential and I believe a very timeless classic. There is no way to compare this show to any other it overides every other show like it. I wish I had a copy of all the episodes. But some of the episodes still air on I believe the Sci-Fi channel. The Beastmaster was most definitely my one of my all time favorite shows. if you haven't watched it you should.
  • Timespender, but not the best.

    "Great"
Beastmaster has been fine show to watchs but it lacks some class, story is pretty good and it is not another low-budget crap but not best in the market either. The part are very different, some episodes are good to watch, but by some you cant keep your eyes open. I really love the beastmasters weapon, it is really cool looking and modern. I like that there are many animals in the show, but sometimes it dosent look real and animals look like brainless creatures. Overall Beastmaster is a good show to watch if you got nothing better to to then sit and watch television :)
  • The third season of the Beastmaster is where the series really begins to shine. It's just a shame that it had to be the last one.

    9.9
    "Superb"
The third season's main plot twist was the fact that Dar now has a spirit warrior Dartanus (interestingly enough, he is played by Marc Singer, the actor who played Dar in the original 1980's film) who fights beside Dar in his quest to help rescue his family and return the name of his father, Eldar, to the place of respect that it deserves, while all the while trying to foil Balcifer's plan to take over the universe. It may seem like a tall order, but each episode is broken up enough that the entire process doesn't seem too rushed. As with any TV series, there is always a side-quest Dar must embark on that must be solved during the show's 60 minutes, but at the end of every episode, something has always happened that has either helped or hindered Dar's overall quest to rescue his family. These little happenings are what really keep the show flowing onward.

The special effects are completely lacking, and are even laughable in some instances, but if you don't take the show too seriously, they really won't disappoint you. You can really think of the fight sequences in the same right. After all, in my opinion, it is the plot that really makes the show shine - and a good looking Daniel Goddard as the lead actor really doesn't hurt either.

The extended plot, for those who are interested is this: Dar, in the previous two seasons of the show, believed that he was the last surviving member of the Sula clan (his girlfriend Kira, having died in the first season, left him as the only one). The Sulas had been wiped out by King Zad and his forces. King Zad is your typical ruler who wants every ounce of power imaginable, "what he says goes," that sort of thing. During the first season, Dar was hunting down Zad who had taken Kira prisoner. After Kira dies (by way that I won't speak of here in case people haven't seen the show), Dar goes after Zad for revenge. Being the Beastmaster means that he has the ability to communicate with animals, and all the while, he accumulates new friends that help him on his journey. A rival king, Voden, comes into play during the second season, as well as some interesting developments concerning the Ancient One and his two pupil sorceresses. The second season is definitely the worst, so I won't go into too much detail about that. That basically takes us up to this third and final season.

Dar meets Dartanus, who tells him that everything he has ever known has been a lie, and that really, he is the son of King Eldar. The only son, that is, that has survived in human form. Dartanus always stood by King Eldar's side, but with the coming of Balcifer, Dartanus had a choice to make - either fight along side King Eldar, or protect his Queen and their new born son, Dar. Dartanus chose to protect Dar and his mother. Despite his efforts, King Eldar is fatally wounded, and with his last ounce of energy, turns his wife and other children into animals so that Balcifer would not know who/what they were in the hopes that they would be safe. Dartanus then knows that it's his duty to watch out for Dar, and when the time comes, informs him of what he must do: Find his family and return them to the Crystal Ark, a piece of magical stone that can hold the family safely inside until all can be found, at which point, they will be returned to their human forms. The third season is based around the search for his family, and the fight against Balcifer, whose power and greed are growing ever stronger.

Like I have said before, the plot is definitely the high point of the show. The actors are varied enough to make it believable that they all come from different parts of the world, and with multiple villains all making alliances with Balcifer, it does make for some nice plot twists. If you are a die-hard Sci-fi fan, than this series will be right up your alley, but if you are wanting something a bit more believable, I suggest you look elsewhere.
  • Unstable Story lines Nevertheless Interesting Production

Title: Beastmaster Date: 1999-2002 Country: Australia, USA, Canada GENRE: Action, Fantasy Cast: Daniel Goddard: Dar Marc Singer: Dartanus Jackson Raine: Tao Marjean Holden: Arina PLOT: Adventures of the Beastmaster named Dar, rebelling against King Zad and rescuing his family turned animals. My Rating And Comments 7/10 Beastmaster is a great part Australian production based on the 80\'s movie The Beastmaster starring Marc Singer, who returned as Dartanus in this late 90\'s series. Channel 7 bought rights to this show in 2005 and I followed it to its end. Filmed partly in Queensland, Australia and New Zealand this series is noted for its beautiful natural scenery. Best in its first season. Nomitated for the Open Craft Award by the Australian Film Institute.
  • A dreadfully written and acted show that doesn\'t know if it is in the 1990s or the 1700s.

    1.0
    "Abysmal"
I wish that dreadful was an option under classification. This simply was a dreadfully acted, dreadfully written, dreadfully staged tv show. Come on now, I mean why would they use dialog like \"someday he will see how you have played him.\" I wish someone on the show could play something. The show is basically a white american looking actor half naked and unshaven, or a white american looking actress showing her breasts. Every sequence of dialog ends up in a poorly choreographed, testosterone filled fight. The synthetic background music was likely written by some high school kid and the special effects are so poorly done and over used that they are laughable. This show should be put of it\'s misery and buried forever.
  • Beastmaster is a great show to watch when you have nothing better to do. It really keeps you entertained.

The series mainly concentrates on a man called Dar. He has to control the animals and has to fight against various leaders and their warriors.

Beastmaster is a great show. It is really entertaining and worth watching. When i have nothing else to do, i would turn on the TV and watch Beastmaster if it was on.

The cast and Crew did an amazing job at filming the series. The show has a great storyline which is easy to follow. I would recommend this show to anyone who wishes to enjoy themselves.
  • Beastmaster has the magic, sex appeal and animal cast that makes it so appealing to watch!

I'm a night owl and when I flip through the boring shop-at-home channels I desperately wait for something actually entertaining to come across my screen. Well when I get to the show Beastmaster, it seems my prayers have been answered. As an animal lover, I am drawn to Beastmaster like a moth to a flame. Daniel Goddard, being as handsome as he is, makes it so much better. To me, this show has everything: action, comedy, the magic, sex appeal and the animal cast. It is really one of my all-time favorite shows to watch. Watching tv late at night is no longer boring as long as Beastmaster is on!
  • Ruins the movie's name.

    "Terrible"
Who thought this show would be good? Well I did. But then I watched a few episodes and now I feel like an ass. This show couldn't get any worse. At least Xena and Hercules started off as good shows and then went down hill. Beastmaster started face down in the crap and then proceeded to drag it's face through it.
  • Like other B-rated action shows such as Xena, this show is not good, yet it is strangely entertaining. The dialogue and storylines are just plain bad, but the cheesy action makes it worth watching on occasion when you're channel surfing and come up empty.

    4.2
    "Poor"
Like the ohter B-rated action shows such as Xena: Warrior Princess, this show is not good, yet it is strangely entertaining. The dialogue and story lines are not even close to good, but the cheesy yet intense action scenes which occur quite frequently make this show semi-fun on occasion. As a result, this show and others of its type are good for a good laugh now and then or even for some watered down cheesy action when nothing else is on TV. The best part about this show and those of its kind is that you don't have to invest a whole lot of attention into each episode, and the action isn't of the edge of the seat type, so if you are tired it is entertaining, but won't keep you awake or you won't feel bad for falling asleep and missing some. Now for a few show specifics. The show has semi-poor acting, semi-poor dialogue, and semi-poor costumes as they have an aura of corniness to them. Infact, there is nothing really great about this show, but there is nothing really awful about it either so it falls into one of those shows that aren't really good, but are worth watching when nothing else is on (if you still want to watch TV after cycling through all the channels once or twice).

My final review: Not really a show to recommend, but if nothing else is on and you really want to watch TV, this show can fill the void, although, the result will not feel that rewarding.

Normally I would never watch a show like this. It's just not my cup of tea. But, I ran across it one night at 2 in the morning and became hooked. It certainly wasn't for the fine writing or acting, but I was drawn in and wanted to see the Beastmaster reunited with his family! After three seasons the show was cancelled, but as far as I know the series finale has not aired in the U.S. It was shown on Sci-fi channel recently, but the final episode again was not shown. I would really like to see the finale.
