Beauty and the Beast Series Premiere Review: Nope.

The most boring show of the new fall season finally premiered! It was not very good.

  • Episode Summary

As a teenager, Catherine "Cat" Chandler witnessed the murder of her mother. Her life was spared when someone--or something--saved her from the attackers. Years later, Cat works an NYPD police officer investigating a case that leads her to the person who saved her life: a doctor named Vincent Keller. Vincent's longtime friend, J.T. Forbes, helps Vincent hide out and protects his dark secret--when enraged, he transforms into a terrifying beast, unable to control his inedible strength. Even after learning the truth, Cat is touched by the man that lives inside the beast and decides to keep her relationship with Vincent a secret from her boss, Joe Bishop, her partner, Tess Vargas, and even from her close friend, medical examiner Evan Marks. Though drawn to each other, Cat and Vincent realize that their attraction is dangerous for both of them.

    • Will be watching...

I liked it because it isn't the 80's like that it;s different but the essence of the characters, the way they fell about each other is the same.
    • No future for this one

I was just curious about this show and decided to watch the pilot because I followed the one from the 80's. But it turned out to be a totally waste of time. I agree with billy1981, this version is entirely different from the original and Kristin Kreuk is way too young (and looks even younger) to be a homicide detective. Besides, the story about her mom getting killed by strangers don't Seriously, aren't there any more interesting stories to tell? Hello?moreless
    • The Pilot of Beauty and the Beast

The Pilot of Beauty and the Beast was good but not great. I like the actors and the story was generally ok. Personally I liked Ringer a whole lot more than this. There was some action, drama and intrigue and I guess I was in suspense a little bit. The show does have potential and I was surprised of the route it took. I enjoyed watching and look forward to watching what happens next!!!!!moreless
    • Horrible

The original series was a love story. The new version has no direction at all. Kirstin Kreuk is too young to be a detective. The dialogue is laughable. What is Vincent suppose to be anyway? He looks more like a vampire from Buffy the Vampire Slayer than a monster. They could have least transformed into a lion or werewolf.
    • Unbelievably bad!

Almost certainly the lowest score I've given any TV show on, thus far.

I had reasonable hopes for this show, as I'm knocking on a bit and remember the 1980's version with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman very well but alas! No cigar!

The start of the program was simply too haphazard to make sense with a couple of "killers" turning up and just blowing the heroine's mother away. As usual, the frightened maiden dashes immediately into the dark woods, instead of back to the building she has keys for and can lock herself into. Nothing like cliche here, then?

Suddenly, the hero turns up from nowhere (must have learned to "apperate" at Hogwarts, I guess) and slaughters the two killers. Fabulous timing!

Years later, she's a tough cop who goes into a building without backup (?) and meets the Hero again, who (surprise, surprise) turns out to be a sensitive soul who has been manipulated by the Government to be a mega-soldier. The only sop to his "beast" nature a Germanic style duelling scar on his handsome (extraordinarily so) face.

At least in the 80's series, the "Beast" WAS a beast to some extent. The only thing this "hero" has in common with the 80's version is his name.

This was more like a Werewolf movie that didn't know how it was supposed to work.

Even worse was the utter lack of chemistry between these presumably soon to be lovers.

I've seen caterpillars that liked each other better than these two.

I'm not a great fan of how American TV show producers chop off shows after only a few episodes but in this case, I'm prepared to make an exception.

      Unutterable drivel!!!moreless

      • Catherine: (voice-over) Sometimes it feels like everyone's moved on, but they all miss you in their own way. Mom, there's not a day that goes by when I don't think about you. The good news is I know now I'm not crazy. I was saved by a beast. He didn't get there in time to save you, but he's still out there. And I have a feeling that now, we're going to have to save each other.

      • Catherine: (voice-over) Everyone told me, it was a wild animal a coyote, a bear. That this thing I thought I'd seen was just the result of my concussion or post-traumatic stress. You know, the men who'd killed my mother were beasts. I believed them...until now.
