Chamber Music was the first episode of season two of Beauty and the Beast. The episode opens with indication that the relationship between Catherine and Vincent has progressed to a different level as we see them going on a "date" to a concert in Central Park. The interaction between the two of them is beautiful, as the night takes an unexpected turn.
The episode quickly becomes much more serious as Vincent finds a past resident of the tunnel community living on the streets Above. Vincent is unable to rest until he can reach out to this young man, and Catherine does her best to help make that happen. Much of this episode is told through a series of flash backs. This technique is very effective here and the transitions between present and past move smoothly. This episode takes the viewer through every emotion, from the pure joy of the opening scenes to the much more somber ending. All of the parts are very well acted, especially the young and older Rollie, and his piano teacher. Ron Perlman as Vincent and Linda Hamilton as Catherine are also particularly good in this one.
