  • B&B attemps Matlock

This is a very boring episode all Matlock-type courtroom drama, no poetry or literature reading and no Vincent storyline. The overall anti-child abuse message is good but the episode never gels. Catherine is troubled over a child abuse murder case involving a prominent man, a minor celebrity in the city, who can afford to hire the best defense lawyers in the country. Catherine is given the prosecuting case with Joe supporting her all the way. Vincent is involved too, of course, in his own way: haunted by images of the little boy crying for help but always just out of reach. Catherine helps the grieving mother forgive herself for not doing more to help her child as the abuse was taking place because she was a scared victim herself. So was the daughter from a previous marriage who lived elsewhere and was the father's alibi. Cathy finds medical records of the daughter's abuse, ends with a moving Atticus Finch-style speech to the jury who finds the defendant guilty of murder. The day is won. Catherine and Vincent agree they can't be avenging angels for all suffering children but they can help the children in their own lives.
