Flabber makes Drew, Roland, and Jo's wish come true, and they're given the ability to transform into the comic book superheroes, the Beetleborgs, for real! But in doing so, the magical Phasm opens a gateway to the comic dimension, and the Beetleborgs' enemies, evil creatures called Magnavores, slip into our world. Now the three pre-teens use the powers and arsenal of the Beetleborgs to combat the Magnavors, and only once they're defeated and sent back to the comic world can the portal be closed, and the Earth be safe again.moreless

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      ADD TRIVIA
      • Mums doesn't appear in his mummy form at all in this episode, still in his skeleton monster form from last episode. After this episode, he never displays such an ability again. Strangely, this rubber-suit, Grim Reaper-like monster form will later appear as a Magnavore monster-of-the-day, recolored green and called Evil Eye, in the episode "Big Bad Luck".

      • In this episode, Flabber reveals that, to summon the Beetle Bonders, the kids are supposed to whistle three notes (sounding like "bee-tle-borgs"). This was quickly dropped by the next episode, where they will merely shout for their Beetle Bonders, causing them to appear.

      • The end credits sequence features the first active appearance of Ghoulum, the usually inanimate statue of Hillhurst Mansion.

    • QUOTES (11)

      ADD QUOTES
      • Blue Stingerborg: Man, this is getting ridiculous! Red Strikerborg: You can say that again! I'm losing track of how many bad guys we've taken out today!

      • Vexor: Fools. I send you to do a simple job and you failed. Then you come sniveling back to me? Jara: B-bu-but boss! We're not sniveling! Ahh, maybe just a little.

      • Noxic: Boss is gonna be mad, ya know, Jara. We are late! Typhus: Yeah baby! Jara: Borscht! Don't look at me! You were the guys who couldn't tear yourselves away from all that "popcorn" and used booblaygum!

      • Noxic: (in the misty cemetery) Ohh, look at this place. It's a perfect rendezvous point. It's dark, secluded, no worrying about the neighbors! Ohh, you gotta hand it to old Vexor. He's sure got a flare for the dra-ma-tic! Jara: Vell, I would have preferred a non-smoking rendezvous. I mean, vhat is going on here? Noxic: It's mood! It's atmosphere. Whadda you think, Typhus?! I think it's perfect! Typhus: Here's what I think! (belches loudly)

      • Typhus: (seeing monster on movie screen scaring a woman) Who's that? Noxic: Ooh! Maybe she owes him money!

      • Jara: (entering movie theater) What's going on in here? Noxic: It's some kind of gathering place. I think maybe it's a church or something! (monster on screen growls, causing people in audience to scream) Okay-okay, maybe not.

      • Jara: (concerning the giant lizard on the Monster Movie Marathon poster) Typhus, is that not your cousin, Iggie? Typhs: Could be. Got his eyes!

      • Noxic: (about Charterville) Lookit this place, will you? What a dump! Jara: Some town! No skyscrapers. No subways. I can't believe it! We're stuck in suburbia!

      • Typhus: Ya know, screams are so much better when you can hear 'em instead of readin' 'em!

      • Count Fangula: (to Frankenbeans) You big bolt-head! It's all your fault they got away! Mums: What do you mean his fault, you buck-tooth booby!

      • Flabber: (casting a spell) Flibbity! Flabbity! Give it some gravity!

    • NOTES (1)

      ADD NOTES
      • This episode debuted as a one-hour special, combined with the first episode. Fox Kids US only aired it once, failing to repeat it in any form, for reasons unknown. Fox Kids UK never aired it in a one-hour format, but due to the fact they were given only the hour long cut, they were forced to edit it down into two episodes themselves. Hence the lack of credits at the start of part 2. Saban did finally release an official "singular" version of episodes 1 and 2, but not until September 98 for the UPN Kids airing (which was the second and last US airing ever). The second episode starts with a reprise of the scene where the three tell Flabber they want to Beetleborgs (whereas the Fox Kids UK version starts after the kids have been transformed into mice).

    • ALLUSIONS (11)

      ADD ALLUSIONS
      • Flabber: (in a southern accent) Ya'll come back and see me now... ya hear? This is a reference to the last words of the theme song of the classic 60s TV series, The Beverly Hillbillies.

      • Flabber: It's top secret! A-muh-a-muh-a-muh (gestures turning key beside head) Mum's the word! The voice mannerisms done by Flabber here are that of classic film star Edward G. Robinson, who often played gangster roles.

      • Flabber: (in a British accent, dramatically) Oh, alas! Parting is such sweet sorrow! This quote is from William Shakespeare, specifically his play, Romeo and Juliet.

      • Flabber: You know... Pucker up and blow! This is a reference to the famous Lauren Bacall quote from the movie, To Have and to Have Not. It's a common paraphrase of the actual line, which is "Put your lips together and blow".

      • Roland: Dude! We're BeetleBorgs, not the Seven Dwarfs! After being told to whistle, Roland references the whistle-loving little people from the 1937 Walt Disney movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

      • Flabber: I've got a pounding flab-ache and I'm all... shook up! Another Elvis Presley reference, this time to his 1957 hit song All Shook Up.

      • Flabber: They're heeeeeere! This is a reference to the famous line from the 1982 film, Poltergeist.

      • Noxic: (about his tub of popcorn) Did you find a prize? I didn't get a prize in mine! He's confusing popcorn with similar food product Cracker Jack, known for containing toy prizes within it.

      • The film being shown in the theater is the 1922 silent German picture, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. Oddly, one scene implies it's dubbed into Japanese, despite lacking dialogue to dub!

      • The interior of the BeetleBorgs issue which gives the kids their powers (and allows the Magnavores to escape from), is that of Continuity Comics' series Armor, specifically issue #11.

      • Flabber: Is that a new rock group? Flabber confuses the BeetleBorgs with rock legends The Beatles.
