Beetlejuice and Lydia are in Lydia's basement darkroom while she develops photos. There is a photo show that afternoon and Lydia's hoping to sell at least one of her pictures. Beetlejuice decides that *he* will be the one to buy Lydia's best photo - but he's got no money (surprise). He hides in the Deetzes kitchen and overhears that the sink has a leak, which Charles is unsuccessfully trying to fix. The doorbell rings and Delia answers to find...Mr. Beetleman, the "Handy-Dandy Handyman, Ma'am!" Delia hires him to fix the leak and drags Charles out of the room.
Beetlejuice messes around under the sink for a bit then plugs in the dishwasher and flips it on. A power surge makes the lightbulb in the basement explode, ruining the photo Lydia's developing. Enraged, she runs upstairs to find Beetlejuice, charred to a crisp. Delia pokes her head in to tell Lydia she's taking Charles for a walk and not to bother Mr. Beetleman, then leaves. Lydia asks BJ to fix the leak quickly, before the photo show starts, then goes back downstairs.
Beetlejuice goes to the Neitherworld Hardware Store and fetches a box of Ghoul Tools: a ham-mer (looks like a glazed ham), a hack-saw (coughs a lot), a monkey wrench (obvious), a Jack hammer (talks/looks like Jack Nicholson), and a drill sergeant (a military drill that gives orders). Beetlejuice takes a nap while the Ghoul Tools fix the sink, and when they wake him to announce that the job is done he snaps at them and brags about "his" handiwork. The Jack hammer asks him for a little gratitude but instead he snaps at them again and tries to throw them back in the toolbox. They escape and BJ chases the monkey wrench down the drain and through the pipes to the tap in the darkroom - managing to get a spurt of water all over Lydia's newest photo and ruining it. They wind up back in the kitchen, and BJ continues to refuse to thank the Ghoul Tools for their work. The Jack hammer breaks through the floor into the darkroom, dragging Beetlejuice with him. BJ tells Lydia that everything that's been happening is the Tools' fault. There's a crashing from upstairs and the friends run up to the kitchen where they find the Tools trashing the place.
Beetlejuice runs in to stop them but soon finds himself immobilized with his clothes nailed to the floor and the Tools demanding their thanks. He refuses and they threaten bodily harm. Lydia blows the spigot of a teakettle like a whistle, tricking the Tools into thinking its quitting time and getting back into the toolbox. Lydia and BJ make good their escape into the basement but the Tools quickly figure out they've been tricked and go after them.
While the Tools try to get through the darkroom door, Lydia tells Beetlejuice he should admit he couldn't have fixed the leak without them; Beetlejuice is reluctant. But when the Tools have the door nearly broken down, BJ admits that he can't fix anything, and the Tools go back upstairs and straighten everything up. They finish and get back in their box just as Delia and Charles get home, and Charles writes "Mr. Beetleman" a check. Lydia comes upstairs with her best photo and Beetlejuice tries to buy it from her with his check. She tells him she doesn't want to sell it; instead, she gives it to him as a gift. Before BJ can be too touched by the gesture however Charles takes away his check, because the not-fixed sink is flooding the kitchen! Blaming his tools again (who can be heard protesting in the box), Beetlejuice declares that he'll be back to fix the leak pronto before the otherworldly toolbox flies straight though the (closed) back door, dragging BJ along with it.
