Before the Dinosaurs: Walking with Monsters

Show Summary

Before the Dinosaurs: Walking with Monsters is a paleontology-themed British documentary that aired on the BBC in November of 2005. It is narrated by Kenneth Branagh and written and directed by Tim Haines. This three part series won a 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program and brings you back to 530 million years ago, back when the planet was a hazy young Earth, brimming with now extinct life, and extends over the next 300 million years to 248 Million years ago, when dinosaurs were starting to appear. It was an unrecognizable dangerous time on a planet ruled by killer fish and giante insects. Did you know there were 3 foot long underwater scorpions 418 million years ago? Or dragonflies the size of bald eagles? How about a fish bigger than a great white shark that could take brief walks above the water on shore? With beautiful computer animated renditions of what it all looked like and expert interviews on the subject matter, you can learn and experience the impressive past today, you don't even need a time machine.moreless
