You may be surprised at some of the history behind Bette Midler, the bawdy singer/actress/comedienne. She got her start in bath houses in the 1970's, doing a stint on Broadway in Fiddler On The Roof, evolving into an Andrews Sisters throwback, and starring as a Janis Joplin type singer in The Rose. She went on to endure the loss of her sister in a car accident, her mother to cancer, and several friends to AIDS. She discusses dealing with these setbacks, and rebounding with her singing and acting, becoming a platinum-selling mellow adult contemporary artist.
