Grand Funk Railroad
AIRED:
Here is Grand Funk, the garage band from Flint, Michigan, who become one of the biggest live acts in the early '70's, are the first to have ten consecutive platinum albums, then lose a ridiculous lawsuit in which singer-turned-manager Terry Knight wins all the publishing rights. Undeterred, they go on to have even greater success, including the #1 hit We're An American Band. This all happened over 20 years ago, but here they are, reunited, sounding as good as ever, and back playing their loud party rock to sold-out houses everywhere.moreless

      • Terry Knight, former singer turned manager of Grand Funk, was stabbed to death by his daughter's boyfriend on November 11, 2004.

      • An episode called Behind The Music: The Temptations was announced for this slot, but was never aired, and maybe not completed. NBC had aired a four hour, two part TV movie, The Temptations, in early November, and a defamation lawsuit was being prepared by three families against Motown and NBC, which may have influenced VH1's discretion.
Editor's note: Ironically, the mini-series/movie was rerun later on VH1.
