This episode features the corpulent singer/actor, who rose to fame in the 1970s and fell off the radar for two decades before incredibly rebounding in 1993, with the sequel to his successful album "Bat Out of Hell". His wife and daughters are interviewed, along with Todd Rundgren, producer, and other associated musicians. While not delving too deeply into the 'missing decade', following Meat's nervous breakdown, we see a triumphant return to superstardom after he reunites with "Bat" creator, Jim Steinman.moreless

      • (Bassist) Kasim Sultan: After my first show with him, I found him laying passed out on his back gasping for air, and people were stepping over him, saying 'Hey, great show, Meat'. And I'm yelling, 'Isn't someone going to call a paramedic?' And another guy said, 'Don't worry, he does this after every gig'.

      ADD NOTES
      • Although Meat doesn't seem to remember much about the years following his breakdown, VH1 produced a TV movie in 2000, 'Meat Loaf: To Hell And Back', which covered the period in great detail.

      • Jim Forbes: In 1972, a part in another play, 'More Than You Deserve', convinced him he could really make it as a singer. Editor's note: Either Meat Loaf wants to tell the story his way, or the VH1 staffers didn't research very well. The previous year he was in a duo called Stoney and Meatloaf, and hit the top 40 in the soul charts with 'What You See Is What You Get'.
