    • Erica: Have you ever watched someone do their job and thought … I could never do that, that's not me … It's an important thing - to be able to determine what we can and can't do, what fits and what doesn't, who you are and who you're not.

    • Erica: Bad? Linda Kaplan's answer to a mid-life crisis is an avocado quesadilla.
      Julianne: Mm.
Erica: I don't recommend that, um, that we publish this.
Julianne (sighs): Bummer, I hearted the pitch. But if both you and Dory are saying she's not delivering, then it's time to give her the boot. Time to tell Linda she's done, like dinner, 'kay?
Erica: What!? Me? You want me to do it?
Julianne: Yeah, you, and do it today before she hands in any more chapters. Just get her on the phone, and tell her she needs to come in. Pronto-Toronto.
Erica: Oh, no, Julianne. Look, I'm really, um … I'm really good at, you know, taking notes and reading. But I don't … I don't think that I can, um …
Julianne: Fire someone? Well, "newsflash", that's part of the job. You're a manager now, Erica, please start acting like one. Go get your hands dirty.
Brent: With the raise you're about to get, I think you could afford the manicure.

    • Julianne: People draw blood to get into his sessions. So, consider yourself extremely lucky 'cause I'm giving you my spot.
Erica: Thank you, and you know, I think that management training is exactly what I need.
Julianne: Oh, I hope so, because my Spidey senses are tingling, Erica - and not in a good way. I'm gonna be honest with you, right now I'm wondering if you're ready for this promotion.

    • (Claire is leaving after arguing with Ethan)
Claire (to Erica): Well, you finally got him - only took you ten years.

    • Friedken: What was your name again?
Erica (gulps nervously): It's Erica. It's um, it's Erica Strange.
Friedken: Okay, you gotta say that with more conviction, okay? See? (crouches slightly and deepens his voice) Baaa! Start from down here, you see? (gesturing to his abdomen) Start from down here! And you say … you say-say it like (growls loudly) ERICA STRANGE!
Erica (slightly greater conviction): Erica Strange.
      Friedken: Proceed.
Erica: Okay, um, the words to describe my management style are … in-in no particular order (stammers) : fun … and friendly, easy-going, supportive, and, uh … nurturing.
Friedken (with growing sarcasm): Right! Because, you know, whilst Hannibal marched his war elephants over the alps during the Second Punic War, he was easy-going. He was fun, he was friendly.

    • Dr. Tom: So, how is management training?
      Erica: I failed.
Dr. Tom: Hmm-m. Because you couldn't tango?
Erica: No, it's because, uh … I'm easy-going, not commanding. It's because I'm fun, but not intimidating. It's because my inner tiger is more like a kitten.

    • Erica: IF, I don't-I don't-I don't think that I can do this.
Ivan: Ah, whadaya mean? Wha … Why, you don't wanna LARP?
Erica: No, I don't … I mean, I don't think that this relationship … is right for me. And that's what I've been feeling, and that's what I wanted to talk to you about. I'm sorry … can we still be friends?
Ivan: Oh-h. Uh … just wait a sec while I rip this stake outta my heart. Heh.

    • (Dr. Tom is on the sidewalk, white-faced and costumed like a skeleton mime)
Erica: Wow! (Dr. Tom approaches, miming an invisible box) What are you doing, Dr. Tom? (silence) Okay, look, here-here's the deal, alright? I came back and I did what I was supposed to do. I-I, I broke up with IF.
Dr. Tom: In record time, too. So fast, in fact, you could probably squeeze in a quick round of LARPing, if you really wanted to.
Erica (laughs sarcastically): Running around the city dressed as a vampire? That-that's not really my idea of fun.
Dr. Tom: Still caring what other people think?
Erica: No. this isn't me caring about what other people think, alright. I'm not a LARPer. (Dr. Tom begins miming a box again) And I'm not a mime.
Dr. Tom: This really is quite a small box you've got yourself living inside. Must be very tiring, squeezing yourself into that every day. I am this, I'm not that. I am this, I'm not that …
Erica: I thought that mimes were supposed to be silent? (Dr. Tom shrugs) Okay … Look, I know who I am. And-and I came back here and did what I had to do, so …
Dr. Tom: So-o-o, why are you still here?

    • Erica: You know, Ethan, if you don't wanna buy the house, why don't you say something?
Ethan: Um, didn't you see me saying something?
Erica: No, I saw you getting beaten into submission. Why do you always do that? I mean, why do you always let her win?
Ethan: Um, well, that's just how we do things. Claire has a lot of opinions and … I don't like to fight.
Erica: I know that you don't, but sometimes you have to. I mean, what - are you gonna live your whole life just giving into things? If you feel strongly about something then, you know, speak out, push back.
Ethan: That's not how I work.
Erica: What do you mean that's not how you work?
Ethan: I don't like to push, I'm not a fighter. It's just … not me.
Erica: It's just not you? That is such a cop-out. You-you're saying it's just not you, like … it's not a choice you have. But you do, you-you could fight. And, yeah, it would … it could be … horrible and … scary and … hard, but you could do it.
Ethan: Honestly, Erica, it's just easier this way.
Erica: That's not a good enough reason.

    • (Erica has failed as a healing Blood Sorceress)
Erica: I mean, it-it's not real.
Ivan: Yeah, I know this isn't real. Alright, I'm-I'm not insane.
Erica: Okay, I'm sorry, it's just, it's … it's really crazy to an outsider. It just … it is.
Ivan: Look, one night, every coupla weeks, I get to hang out with my friends - and bring out the person who I really am, okay, deep down. You know, not Ivan the tech geek or Ivan the girl-retard who got dumped today. See, I get to be me. I-I get to show the world parts of Ivan Frankel that nobody ever imagined he possessed, you know? Like strength and bravery and confidence. But you … you just-you only see the surface. You know, you see duct-tape weapons and geeks running around playing make-believe.
      Erica: No, that's not true.
Ivan: Really? (scoffs) You were embarrassed to heal me, but … but who here would judge you? Huh? No one. The only one judging you … is yourself.

    • Erica: At the end of the day, it comes down to this : the way we choose to see ourselves, it limits who we can be. Step outside the box, and you might learn something - because we are more capable than we imagine, because we all have it in us to do things we've never done before … because sometimes, we can surprise even ourselves.

  • Notes

    • LARP stands for Live Action Role-Playing Game. - where players pursue goals within a fictionalized construct in the real 3D world, while interacting with each other as their role-playing characters. LARPs grew out of tabletop role-playing games in the 1970's - well before computer role-playing games first appeared. Genres can vary from realistic or historical to complete fantasy. Games can be simple, small private affairs lasting for a few hours or large public events involving expensive costumes and realistic props and lasting for days - such as Civil War battle reenactments.
