LARP stands for Live Action Role-Playing Game. - where players pursue goals within a fictionalized construct in the real 3D world, while interacting with each other as their role-playing characters. LARPs grew out of tabletop role-playing games in the 1970's - well before computer role-playing games first appeared. Genres can vary from realistic or historical to complete fantasy. Games can be simple, small private affairs lasting for a few hours or large public events involving expensive costumes and realistic props and lasting for days - such as Civil War battle reenactments.
