It's about time these Ben 10 episodes came up with something new, and it sure as hell didn't disappoint here. The concept of the average friend of the superhero becoming a superhero themselves isn't anything too original, but the method in how Gwen did her work was really entertaining. Seeing how the different scenes evolved to fulfill her one desire, it really kept you engaged and entertained to see what kind of crazy stunt she would pull off next with her luck. The way the villain was taken down felt pretty anti-climatic, I mean Gwen throwing some rocks at his shin? Still doesn't take away from the episode, and it kind of sucks that Lucky Girl's appearance is only brief.
Ben defeats a magician named Hex as he attempts to steal a spellbook. During the fight Ben retrieves one of Hex's five magical Charms of Bezel and gives it to Gwen. The charm gives Gwen the power of probability manipulation. Using a Mardi Gras costume, Gwen becomes a new superheroine named "Lucky Girl," stealing the spotlight from Ben. Unfortunately, Hex wants his charm back. He takes the spellbook and lures Gwen into a trap. He is able to take back his charm and begins an incantation to suck the entire city of New Orleans into a vortex. Fortunately, Gwen catches him off guard and takes back the Charms of Bezel, smashing them so that they may not be used again. Fourarms restrains Hex until he is arrested.
No, I do not believe that this story was done very well. The idea of Gwen picking up a lucky charm and becoming really proud of being a heroine is cool, but it was not developed properly. In the end, the conflict and rivalry between superheroes Ben and Gwen seemed very under-developed and the story just did not content the audience. In the end, the main crux of the tale seemed to be about Hex wanting his lucky charm back, but not too much about Gwen facing problems about owning a lucky charm. Hence, it makes no sense why Gwen would want to give up being a superheroine.
This episode was both very interesting and great. Gwen is one of my favorite characters and seeing her get to become her own superhero named Lucky Girl was great. I loved Gwen's superhero name and her outfit. My favorite scenes include: the scene at the restaurant where the slug crawls up Ben's nose, the beginning scene where XLR8 is showing off in front of the cameras, and the scene at the end where Gwen tricked Ben into complimenting her and then she ended up taping it for future references. The only part of this episode that I didn't like was the fight between Four Arms and Hex at the end of the episode. The scene was dark and sort of disturbing.
I really loved this episode! I would probably rate this as one of my favorites. There's a role reversal in this episode seeing that Gwen is the hero, and Ben is the one getting pushed to the side by her. I'd have to admit that this episode was awesome! I can't wait till the next airing of this episode. Gwen is now known as 'Lucky Girl' with a charm. The charm gives her superpowers, and that makes her a hero. I'd really like it if she battled alongside Ben. I was also hoping that she could be a hero, too, from this episode on. But, I guess not. However, her powers come back later in the Season Two episode 'Tough Luck'.
Gwen gets her own "watch" with her own superpowers in this surprisingly great episode. I love that Gwen has a chance of becoming a hero. I couldn't wait to see this epsiode! And, when I saw it I was so excited and full of joy! I recorded it on a tape so I could watch it over and over. This episode has to be one of the best episodes in the series not to include the priotal episode in which the amazing hit series begun. During the episode, I wanted Gwen to keep her amazing powers and not lose them like she did at the end. But, thankfully the episode Tough luck indicates her luck of really keeping her powers and joining Ben on his adventures and battles. Even though the show is about Ben who I really like, I'd still like Gwen to go into action and battle alongside Ben. Maybe, Ben's uncle can get the power of the Ontemix to (I can't spell it) and also fight in conquest. I'm only kidding about that. Don't get me started....
It was very entertaining to see the role reversal in this episode; Gwen being the hero, and Ben being the one that kept getting pushed to the side. It is interesting to see Ben's reaction to this developement.
I also enjoyed seeing Gwen as a hero. Up until now, she had mainly had secondary roles as the "helper" alongside Grandpa Max. This one episode gave her a chance to shine. It also developed her character more; she was given the chance to become a hero but gave it up with the statement "...or I could just be me." This is definately a developement from her previous character.
Over all, this was an excellent, highly amusing episode.
This episode of Ben 10 first debuted on Cartoon Network's official website, a surprising event which was first noticed on the day of February 28th, 2006. Was this a promotional doing? Or did Cartoon Network unexpectedly put it on accidentally?
Anyways, this episode demonstrates yet another lesson to be learned. In the beginning, Gwen starts to feel more jealous to Ben, as he continues to gloat in public. When Gwen says she deserves something for helping out, Ben, unexpectedly, gives her one of the charms taken from Hex, a magician who Ben encountered at the museum. And as the title says, Gwen becomes Lucky Girl, and does a little of her own part in being a hero. Gwen also, becomes like Ben, and in return, Ben reacts the way she did, and realizes that teamwork has brought him to where he stands today. In the end, she stops the villian Hex, and instead of taking all of the charms that can entrust her with the power of luck, fire, levitation, and reincarnation, she destroys them instead. Ben is puzzled to what she did, but she admits that Ben is the hero, and he is better at it.
Basically, the moral of the story is: you may succeed in something and be recognized by many, but you wouldn't be where you stand today, because of someone else. It's a good thing Ben learns that.
Overall, I give this episode ten stars out of ten.
