A step up from the Washington B.C. episode before. Although the two follow the same formula, the execution here was better and it had a more interesting story. Although it was a bit too predictable that the Friends of Fish was too fishy to be anything more than good, and the monster that attacks everyone just to protect its eggs or babies is not exactly the most original concept, it wasn't terrible, and it was backed up by some funny jokes and one liners between Gwen and Ben, and some really nice fast paced action. What's nice is that we get to see several of Ben's forms instead of just one per episode which gives the episode a nice variety in the action.

Ben encounters a sea monster called the Krakken and a fisherman obsessed with catching it. He soon finds out the creature is upset because Jonah Melville, a poacher in the guise of an animal lover, is stealing the creature's eggs. After Ben retrieves the eggs, a close scene is shown with the Krakken cuddling her regained eggs in her nest.

While camping and swimming at a lakeside campsite, Ben encounters a sea-monster in the lake. Gwen and Max don't believe his claims at first. The next day, they go fishing and meet Captain Shaw, who identifies the sea-monster as the Krakken. Shaw is determined to capture it. They later meet Jonah Melville, who appears to be an animal lover but is nothing of the sort. They soon find out that Jonah has been stealing the Krakken's eggs. The three eventually end up at odds with the Krakken and each other, each with their own intentions towards the creature. Ben is eventually able to stop Jonah and return the creates eggs, appeasing it and getting Jonah arrested at the same time.
  • Great episode reminds me of clips of Jaws and Jurassic Park but in cartoon.

It is a great episode I love the way ben trys to turn into Ripjaws at the end and turns into XLR8 instead. Also great use of a marine alien transformation in the episode this can show that he can conquer air (Stinkfly), land (fourarms, diamondhead, heatblast) and sea (Ripjaws ((and sometimes XLR8 and Grey matter)) Great to watch because it has that Jaws but friendly twist to it ..... woops nothing else to say so i will fill with some dots. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
  • Shows just what Ben 10 is all about.

This episode is the best for new viewers of Ben 10. It contains pulse-pounding superhero action, enough plot to back it up and all the strange things you could ever think of. It leaves viewers clueless about the existence of a sea monster but satisfies them with a strong plotline about a mother's protection of her eggs and the reality of poachers not caring a hoot about anything in order to earn money. This episode may fall short of fear, since the Krakken, for some reason, just does not strike fear in anyone, but hatred itself is directed towards humans rather than beasts, and that is an interesting twist indeed.

This is an awesome episode because of Ripjaws. I also found out that Grandpa Max kind of knew Captain Shaw as a friend. It was also about the villain known as Jonah Melville who is a fish hunter. He planned to capture the Krakken to win a trip to the Bahamas. Ben also tried to help Shaw defeat Jonah. At the end, Gwen used her cell phone to call the police on Jonah Melville. Then, finally, at the end, Jonah was arrested by the police, which I was glad. I hope he stays in jail forever, just like Dr. Animo in my last review on "Washington, B.C."
  • Ben must save a giant sea monster's eggs from being sold by an evil sea life destroyer.

This episode was amazing! My favorite scenes include: the trick Four Arms pulled on Gwen, Ben talking to Captain Shaw about the Krakken, Grandpa Max's comment about Captain Shaw being crazy, and the scene where Ben hid on Captain Shaw's boat to go search for the Krakken. I also liked the part where XLR8 discovered that he could run on water. That was awesome! Especially when he was running around trying to get everyone out of the water. The funniest parts of this episode would have to be when Ben (as an alien) would revert back to himself in the middle of fighting or making a rescue. The only part about this episode that I didn't care for was Ripjaws' transformation sequence. It was very disgusting and very disturbing.
  • Very well done and it shows that this show is alot more enjoyable than Teen Titans!

Very well done and it shows that this show is alot more enjoyable than Teen Titans! The one thing amazing is that Ben has a very good mature side. He could have let the Kraken devoure the hunter but he convinces it not to. Robin is to much of revenge and himself and that really gets annyoing. Ben is a very likable character and I love the animation they did in this. The Kraken was very amazing and very cool!!!!!
  • This episode was pretty good. What was the deal with Ben believing Jonah about keeping sandwitches in a crate? The Krakken was pretty cool, with the tentacles that looked like a noodle he was eating.

Why the Krakken was a giant fish instead of a giant squid I will never know. To me it looks like a mother Ripjaws with a noodle thingy and without a lighter on his head. Does anyone know which state this episode takes place in? Most people know that Ripjaws was introduced in this episode, right? He's the only omnitrix alien that's introduced in this episode. What a name for an alien, don't you think. Rip-Jaws. It's a good alien to introduce in this episode. Ripjaws= Fish thing, "The Krakken"= Fish thing. Captain Shaws is like most creapy almost-pirate like people.
  • So maybe Ben's not in charge of the watch afterall.

So maybe Ben's not in charge of the watch afterall.

My favorite part of this episode is how the watch wouldn't work the way Ben wanted. I wonder how that will develop in the series. Does the watch require a degree of mental control that Ben doesn't have yet? Maybe it's just smarter than the wearer? Or maybe there's something more to which alien Ben can choose at any time. We shall see.

Other than that this episode takes on a fairly traditional lake monster in an interesting way. I'm trying to not give up the ending here but let's just say that apperances can be deciving. And well, that's always good.

The Krakken is about when Ben, Gwen, and Grandpa Max go on a fishing trip. Ben thinks he sees the Krakken, but no one believes him. No one, except an old fisherman named Captain Shaw. The two of them go out to look for the Krakken, but they run into some enemies. The enemy group captures Captain Shaw, and Ben turns into Stinkfly to try and save him. After that, it's an amazing udersea battle, and Ben turns into a new form, Ripjaw. A great episode.
  • Lake monster, dubious government workers, Ben, Gwen, Grandpa, and the Omnitrix: My kind of episode!

Ooh! The Krakken, one of my favorite Norse-mythological creatures!

This time we first see Ben jump into the “slimy lake” and tease Gwen about seamonsters, plus soon enough becoming one himself to scare the bejeebies out of her. This is like the “Boy Who Cried Wolf” because once he scares Gwen he actually is attacked by the seamonster Krakken. Gwen and Grandpa believe that there is no seamonster, so Ben is left alone in this belief for now.

Soon enough they all meet up with Cpt. Shaw, who has also witnessed the Krakken and is apparently crazy—at least in Grandpa’s eyes. Ben believes him, and they go fising out on the lake.

At this point we are introduced to the villain, Jonah. At first glance, Jonah is thought to be an environmental agent studying the inhabitants of the lake. Later, it turns out that Jonah was stealing the Krakken’s eggs for personal gain.

Yup, Ben saves the day with his newfangled form, Ripjaw: the fishman, shark, anglerfish alien!

And they all lived happily ever after! (Hmm, maybe everybody but Jonah...;-))

  • This Saturday's (Jan. 14, 2006) episode shows yet another great episode and an introduction to Ripjaw, who saves the day!

Ben jumps into a lake, and Gwen spots him there as a "slimy" crawling thing in the water. He then plays a trick on her and acts as the monster of the lake, as Four Arms. He meets the Krakken, and goes to Max to tell him about it, although not believing him. Later, they meet Captain Shaw and he too knows about the Krakken. Jonah Melville, a marine biologist, soon tells them that they should leave their studies to them. The Krakken then appears, and heads for the docks, only to leave Gwen in danger. Ben transforms to XLR8, to save Gwen and the other people who went into the water. Then we meet Max, Gwen, and Ben at their campsite, telling Ben that this Shaw is dangerous to work with. He wanders off on his own, once again and goes in the boat where Shaw is. Both scuba into the water, and spot one of the Krakken's egg. Jonah then appears, only to make things worse. Ben then transforms into Stinkfly to save Shaw from Jonah. After Jonah does get his hands on the Krakken egg in the lake, Ben transforms to Ripjaw, to save the day and give the eggs back to the Krakken where it rightfully belongs to.

The new alien forms that show today: Ripjaw
