I had to google the hoverboard to remember where it came from, thought it was just a random addition to the episode, but it wasn't. Nonetheless even if it wasn't introduced before. The song that plays in the background is pretty catchy. Awesome, just awesome. Can't say the same for the rest of the episode. The return of Lucky Girl is pretty nice, but like the last time, shortlived and lacking in depth. One of the many problems of a half hour television show is fitting enough content in one episode, and time and time again, Ben 10 has suffered from this problem. There were just too many things going on, and Charmcaster's double crossing was very predictable. On the other hand, Hoverboard, nuff said.moreless
  • I especially like the hoverboard part.

This is one of the better episodes of the series, the sole reason being that it no longer focuses on Grandpa Max. Gwen has always been an interesting character, always picking on Ben (and vice versa) but actually caring a lot about him. I also liked the Lucky Girl episode, and so when she returns, though only briefly, it is quite a treat for me. Charmcaster was also developed well. The only gripe I have is similar to the other episodes', the plot is moving far too quickly. Instead of cramming too much action into the plot, maybe some explanation of the Keystone's history would be appreciated.moreless
  • good episode.

Gwen's dons her Lucky Girl costume again upon finding the Keystone of Bezel at a convention in Las Vegas. Rather than magical luck, the Keystone increases all of Gwen's natural abilities, making her a more efficient heroine. At the same time, Hex has been busted out of prison by his niece, Charmcaster, and seeks to use the keystone to restore the destroyed charms. Charmcaster tricks Gwen into trusting her so that she could easily take the Keystone and give it to Hex. However, Charmcaster double-crosses her uncle so that she can take the Charms power for herself. Wildvine stops the recreation process and Gwen defeats Charmcaster herself. To do so, she instinctively fires an energy blast from Hex's staff, suggesting an affinity for magic.moreless
  • At the same time Gwen's powers return, Hex and his niece Charmcaster devise a plan to recreate the Charms of Bezel.

This episode was very good. Gwen is one of my favorite characters and it was great to see her powers return again. Charmcaster is really cool too. I like her powers and her eyes because they're my favorite color. My favorite scenes include: the scene where Gwen throws a pillow at Ben's face, the scene in the maze where Ben and Gwen attempt to stop Hex, and the scene at the end of the episode where Ben is riding on his hoverboard and fighting Hex in the mid-air. The only scene I didn't care for was the beginning scene when Ben rescued the bus full of old people.moreless
  • "Tough Luck" for Hex and his niece, Charmcaster. Even with the help of the Charms of Bazell, nothing other than a strong heart represents true strength.

When they arrive at Las Vegas at a magic convention center, Gwen finds the magical legendary Keystone of Bazell, giving her the ability of not only the power of Lucky Girl, but also the enhancements to her normal attributes. Our heroes meet with Hex the Magician again, but this time, his niece, Charmcaster, comes along to add to the problem. Her cunning ways trick Gwen into letting her acquire the keystone, thus completing their mission to re-create the charms that Gwen destroyed under her free will. Charmcaster listened to Hex along the way, but it seems that she was only using her own uncle to guide her along the way. She succeeded in taking advantage of Hex, but she was not powerful enough to break the power of Lucky Girl, with the charm or not.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Listen Carefully: The theme song was played faster in this episode.

    • Subtitle/DVD Tidbit: In the subtitles for this episode on the DVD, it mistakes "Ben Tennyson is at your service!" for "Ben 10 is at your service!" And when Ben says, "Wildvine!?" it mistakes it for "I'm fine."

    • Think Back: Many believe Charmcaster lost her powers in this episode, yet she still had magic when she appeared in "A Change Of Face." But if she didn't lose her powers, what was the purple energy that left her body?

    • Look Closely: When the bird's eye view of the senior citizen's bus is shown falling off the road, the RV is not seen. Then, when Four Arms turns around to help the senior citizens off the bus, the RV is seen behind him.

    • Listen Carefully: Whenever Hex uses his powers, it uses yet another sound effect from the Stargate shows, this time the sound effect used is when some one dials in the D.H.D.

    • At the beginning of this episode, Gwen complains that she only got to be Lucky Girl for a few hours. The events of "Lucky Girl" don't reflect this, though. She first received the charm at a time when it was light out. When she stopped a group of pursesnatchers, it was nighttime. She first wore her outfit when rescuing construction workers early in the morning. And during the haunted house sequence, it was nighttime again. She must have had her powers for more than a day.

    • Listen Carefully: Gwen's voice seems to sound a little nasal in this episode.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Ben: You know, there are are other ways to be a hero.
Gwen: Like riding on a hoverboard?
Ben: Well, it takes a lot of practice to get good on that thing...
(Gwen flies off on the hoverboard)
      Ben: Hey!

    • Hex: (to Charmcaster) Now, to find the keystone. The moment of alignment is nearly upon us. (blasts a hole in the wall) Once I have completed the ritual and gained its powers, I shall take my revenge on the one responsible for imprisoning me in this festering sewer!

    • Hex: (to Charmcaster) My staff.
Charmcaster: (handing Hex his staff) The magic must have drained out of it or something; it doesn't work, but I swear it's not my fault.
Hex: (taking his staff) It's powers can be brought to life only in the hands of a master magician.

    • Hex: Charmcaster, I've been waiting.
Charmcaster: Hmm. Major jail breaks aren't exactly easy to pull off, you know.
Hex: You will show me respect, my dear niece, or you will suffer the consequences.
      Charmcaster: Yes, Uncle.

    • Gwen: Guess it's all up to you, Ben.
Ben: I'll need some help. Still feeling lucky?
Gwen: What can I do without my powers?
Ben: Hey, you never needed magic powers to help out before.

    • Lucky Girl: Uh, is it me, or was that a bit weird?
Ben: You're a superhero now. Trust me, people act weird around us.

    • Hex: (grabs Lucky Girl's arm) There are two kinds of luck, child. Let me show you the bad kind!
Lucky Girl: Guess what? I'm not just lucky anymore. I am totally kick butt! (slams Hex to the ground)

    • Gwen: This is the legendary lost Keystone. It's rumored to increase 10 times the skills of the one who possesses it.
Grandpa Max: Well, the legend seems to be fact, not fiction.
      Ben: You are so lucky!
Gwen: It's not luck, it's magic.

    • Gwen: I only got to be Lucky Girl for a few hours.
Ben: Really? Was that it? 'Cause with all the bragging you did, it felt like weeks. (laughs)

    • Ben: Sometimes this hero stuff gets way old.
Grandpa Max: You should be proud of yourself, Ben. Those folks would've been in a real pickle without you.
Ben: I know. But I'd just like 1 regular summer day where I could just hang out all day long and do nothing. You know, like Gwen.

    • (after saving a bus full of elderly people from falling off a cliff)
Four Arms: It's okay, everybody. Everything's all right now.
Harold: So you're not going to help us off, mister strong man guy? Who raised you, anyway?
Mildred: Oh, be a dear and carry me, would you? My bunions are killing me.
Edith: Your bunions my butt! My new hip's out of whack. I'm first!
