Berrenger's

Show Summary

This short-lived nighttime TV soap opera attempted to find scandal and sex at a fancy New York department store, but instead, it closed it's doors in less than two months!!! Simon Berrenger was the ruthless, head of the high-class store that bore his name. His two sons were both working for him: Paul, the president of Berrenger's, who was trapped in a loveless marriage to Gloria and was having an affair with Shane Bradley, the chain's merchandise V.P. and Billy, who was in charge of P.R. and was battling addictions to both alcohol and gambling. Simon's daughter, Babs, was a divorcee who had spent her entire life trying to win her father's love and approval. Melody was married to ambitious Todd Hughes, who ran Berrenger's only branch store. They - and the most of the others on the payroll - had illicit affairs, power struggles and assorted other problems and things that were pretty much what the series revolved around.

Berrengers was a different kind of primetime soap in that it was about a family who owned a prominent department store. It had a great cast including Jeff Conaway (who disappeared mid-season), Leslie Hope, Yvette Mimieux, Ben Murphy and the late, great Anita Morris. It aired on Saturday night where primetime soaps never succeed. I enjoyed watching this show, but the writing left something to be desired because it left me cold most of the time.moreless
